Breach of the Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the Board for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events. • When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams. • If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all. • The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink. • Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog. • When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle. • Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated. • Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog’s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. 17. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the Board for disciplinary action under the Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. The use of pinch collars, electronic shock collars, or prong collars, is not permitted at any show licensed by the Kennel Club. This shall apply at the venue or within the precincts of the show. 18. Not for Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered. No dogs with cropped ears will be allowed within the Show. 19. No modifications will be made to the Schedule except by permission of the Board of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible. Check our Facebook page for any changes. 20. The Show will be held under Kennel Club Rules & Show Regulations. Every exhibitor making an entry or entries at this Show shall be deemed to have agreed to abide by the Kennel Club Rules & Regulations and by these Rules & Regulations. It is on this understanding only that entries are received. 21. All postal entries must be made on or before WEDNESDAY, 13th MARCH 2019 (Postmark) upon the form enclosed for that purpose. In your own interest you are advised to use FIRST CLASS post. If an acknowledgement of entries is required, a stamped addressed envelope must be enclosed. If an envelope containing entries bears more than one postmark, the latest date will be considered to be the date of posting. In the event of any dispute, the only proof of posting acceptable to the Committee shall be a receipt or certificate issued and stamped by the Post Office. Entries delivered by hand to the Secretary's address must be handed in on or before the date stated for the closing of entries by postmark, i.e. before midnight on Wednesday, 13th March 2019. Alternatively, entries may be made on-line at www.fossedata.co.uk up until midnight on Wednesday, 20th March 2019. 22. A dog entered in a wrong class is liable to be disqualified by the Kennel Club and the entrance fee forfeited. The entrance fee of a dog entered but not taken or sent to the Show will be forfeited. 23. The Committee is empowered to exclude or to remove any dog which in the opinion of the Show Management and/or Veterinary Surgeon is not in a fit state for exhibition owing to disease, vice or any other cause. If such exclusion takes place either before or after the dog is judged, the entrance fee will be forfeited. 24. All exhibits must be accompanied and, with the exception of Toy dogs, must have a suitable chain and collar so that they may be properly fastened on the benching. 25. The Catalogue will contain the owners' names in alphabetical order in each breed with their dogs' names in numerical order. Dogs will be benched in this order and no bench numbers shall be changed from one pen to another and no dog shall be benched in any but its own numbered pen or cage. 26. Under no circumstances may partitions between dogs be removed. Such action weakens the general structure of the benching and is contrary to KC Show Regulations F(1)5c. The benching is provided by the Society in accordance with K.C. Rules & Regulations and the Society will take all reasonable care to ensure through its Sub-Contractors that the benching provides reasonable safety and security for the Exhibits benched in accordance with those Rules & Regulations. 27. The Committee will not be responsible if a dog is not available in the ring when required for judging. Show Officials, Stewards and Exhibitors are reminded that gangways at Shows must be kept clear at all times. 28. All Judges will be requested to take classes in each breed in the order in which they are entered in the Judging Book. Should any Judge be prevented from fulfilling his/her engagement, the Committee reserves the right to appoint a substitute in the terms of Kennel Club Show Regulations. Exhibitors are at liberty to withdraw from competition but no entrance fee(s) can be refunded. 29. No animal other than a dog duly entered for this Show will be allowed within the precincts of the Show during its continuance. Spectator Dogs will be admitted - £5.00 per dog.

5 30. The Committee will be most anxious for the care and safety of the dogs brought for exhibition and any property entrusted to it but it must be understood by exhibitors and all other persons that the Committee will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any dog or other property whether arising from accidents or other causes whatsoever or from any act or omission of themselves, their Officers, agents, servants and others and it is on this understanding only that entries are received. 31. Conversation is not allowed in the Judging Ring. Exhibitors showing dogs are not permitted to hold conversation with the Judge(s) during competition and any exhibitor who persists in addressing the Judge(s) after being requested not to do so by the Ring Steward, the Judge(s) or any Member of the Committee, may be disqualified and any prize awarded to his/her dog(s) be forfeited. No persons other than the exhibitors (Officials excepted) will be allowed in the ring during judging of classes or specials. 32. All exhibits must be removed from their benches and from the precincts of the Show within 30 minutes of completion of their Group Judging on the first two days of the Show and after Best in Show has been declared on the final day. 33. Disclaimer of Liability. Save for the death or personal injury caused by the negligence of the organisers or anyone for whom they are in law responsible, neither the organisers of the Dog Show, the Kennel Club, the Three Counties Agricultural Society nor any agent, employee or representative of these bodies accepts any liability for any accident, loss, damage, injury or illness to dogs, owners, exhibitors, professional handlers, spectators, land or any other person or property whatsoever, whether caused by their negligence, breach of contract or in any other way whatsoever. Further, the organisers reserve the right to refuse admision to theThree Counties Showground and car parks to any person or to withdraw permission at any time to remain on the ground, and shall not be required to give any reason for such action. 34. The Committee can accept no responsibility for products advertised or sold at the Show. 35. Should any question arise which is not provided for in these Rules and Regulations, the decision of the Committee shall be final, subject to appeal to the Kennel Club. Objections and protests must be made in accordance with Kennel Club Show Regulation F1.28. 36. Vicious dogs are not eligible and must not be brought to the Show. Exhibitors are held responsible for any damage done by their dogs whilst present at the Show. 37. The Society will not tolerate any kind of abusive behaviour to its Officers, Committee or staff on the showground or car parks. Anyone found to be behaving in this manner will be asked to leave and a report will subsequently be sent to the Kennel Club. 38. Exhibitors will receive a pass (not transferable) for each dog entered. If passes have not been received within seven days of the first day of the Show, the Secretary should be contacted by telephone when advice can be given. 39. Any owner, competitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog is required to remove as soon as possible any fouling caused by their dog(s) at any Kennel Club licensed show within the licensed venue and within the environs of that event including car and caravan parks and approaches. 40. The organisers shall not be liable in respect of any loss or damage whatsoever arising from the abandonment, cancellation or postponement of the Dog Show or any such eventuality. 41. The owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog at Kennel Club licensed events must at all times ensure that the dog is kept under proper control whilst at the licensed venue, including its environs, car and caravan parks and approaches. This Regulation applies before (at any time during the set up period at the venue), during the event and afterwards (at any time during the breakdown of the event). 42. A dog may be disqualified by the Board from any award, whether an objection has been lodged or not, if proved amongst other things to have been: a) registered or recorded as having been bred by the scheduled Judge, this shall not apply to a Judge appointed in an emergency; b) exhibited without payment of appropriate entry fees. 43. Every exhibitor shall ensure that whilst the dog is being exhibited, its handler shall display the correct ring number. 44. The Society now incurs substantial bank charges as a result of incorrectly completed or dishonoured cheques forwarded as payment for show entry fees. Exhibitors are advised that such charges will be passed on and any exhibitor failing to pay entry fees and/or Bank Charges so incurred will be referred to the Kennel Club. 45. Safety Officer: A Safety Officer will be in attendance throughout the Show. Exhibitors and Spectators are reminded that just as the Society has a responsibility to ensure the health and safety of everyone attending its show, all those present have a duty of care for their own safety. As this is an outdoor show it is recommended that everyone should take great care while moving around the showground in case there are any uneven surfaces, or the weather has rendered the grassed areas less than ideal.

ARE YOU A NEW EXHIBITOR?

There are a few tips on Page 35 We hope these will help you

6 PROPOSED ORDER OF JUDGING

The majority of judging will commence at 9.30 am each day; however, certain breeds will start at 9.00 am depending on their entry; these will be advised with passes. In Breeds where two Judges are appointed, one sex will commence 30 minutes before the other. Where two Judges are appointed for a Breed, the Best of Breed and Best Puppy in Breed will be judged by both Judges. The Committee of WELKS reserves the right to make any alterations due to unforeseen circumstances and any such alteration will be notified in the Canine Press where time allows.

EXHIBITORS PLEASE NOTE All exhibitors attending the Show shall be responsible for all damage, losses, claims and expenses caused by or resulting from any acts or omissions of themselves and any child of theirs or any child or children in his, her or their care, and shall indemnify the Society in respect of same.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR PUPPY IS ELIGIBLE FOR ENTRY In cases where entries are made for dogs which are not eligible for competition (i.e. Dogs under six calendar months of age on the first day of the Show) before the entry fee is refunded, AN ADMINISTRATION CHARGE OF £10.00 WILL BE DEDUCTED.

Exhibitors are asked to note that cheques sent to cover entry fees must be in order for immediate payment. Those which are not so for any reason whatsoever (including technical irregularities) may not be accepted and the entries therewith returned. The W.E.L.K.S. incurs bank and administration charges as a result of dishonoured cheques, therefore a surcharge of £15.00 will be levied in addition to the amount owing in entry fees. Any exhibitor failing to pay this surcharge will be reported to the Kennel Club.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO RIGHTS The Organisers would like to bring the regulation on photography and filming to the attention of exhibitors, trade stands, press and visitors. It is a condition of all those attending the event that no filming or other form of recording may be taken or made at the venue without express written permission of the organisers. The taking of photographs in the venue for sale or reward is strictly prohibited except with the written permission of the Organisers. Press accredited photographers are provided with permission to take photographs ONLY for use in newspapers, magazines and internet sites - this is for news purposes only. There is no objection to the general public taking photographs or video film of general views of the Show, provided that these are for private use only. Specific dogs may be photographed only with the approval of the exhibitor. No photography or filming is permitted in breed judging rings whilst judging is actually taking place. However, judges may allow it to happen at the end of classes or after the Challenge Certificate is awarded. Filming and flash photography is allowed from outside the rings at all times unless the operation of the camera is actually affecting exhibits. However, if a powerful flash unit is used or it is clear that exhibits are being affected, a ring steward or the judge is empowered to stop the person concerned. Cinematograph or television equipment may only be used at the Show if a permit has been issued by the Organisers.

15 YOUNG KENNEL MEMBERS' STAKES Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are eligible for entry into a YKC qualifying stakes class. Dogs must be on the Kennel Club Breed register to compete in a YKC stakes competition. The YKC method for Crufts qualification is a points based system as follows: 1st Place = 30 points; 2nd Place = 15 points; 3rd Place = 10 points. If a member and dog combination accumulate 30 points or more, they will qualify for Crufts. Points will be allocated for the Dog and Handler pairing. All points are reset to 0 on 1st February each year. All pedigree dogs are eligible to take part provided the dog is registered on the Kennel Club Breed Register. The dog must be registered; a. Solely or jointly in the member’s name or b. In the name of a close member of the family (i.e a group of people related by blood or marriage) and under these circumstances the dog must be resident at the YKC member’s address. No substitute handlers are permitted - the dog must be handled by the registered YKC member. Members are not permitted to allow another individual to show their dog at the qualifier on their behalf if they are not able to attend the class, unless agreed by the YKC Office prior to the show. Members must be aged 6 -24 years (members 6 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). Please note that membership of the YKC terminates on a members 25th birthday. Therefore if a member is aged 25 years or over by the first day of Crufts they will be unable to compete in any YKC class. Please keep this in mind when entering qualifiers throughout the competing year. In order to enter any YKC competition, you must be a fully paid up member at the time of entry and competition. If you enter a Crufts qualifier and you have not previously paid your membership fee then any award will be forfeited. Therefore it is important to renew and maintain YKC membership as current if you wish to participate in YKC competitions. Before competing, please view a full list of the YKC competition rules at: www.ykc.org.uk/ and follow the compete tab. YOUNG KENNEL MEMBERS' HANDLING CLASSES Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are eligible for entry into an YKC qualifying class. Classes for handling are decided by the handler’s age. The classes are divided into three age groups: 6-11 years (6 years and up to, but not including 12th birthday); 12-17 years (12 years and up to, but not including 18th birthday); 18-24 years (18 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). Please enter the class age category you will be on the day of the qualifier. If you should move into the next age range after you have already qualified, the YKC will invite you into the correct age group at Crufts. The method for Crufts qualification is a points based system as follows: 1st Place = 30 points; 2nd Place = 15 points; 3rd Place = 10 points. Members will receive points per group (i.e. if they handle a , they will get points towards the Hound group). If a member gets 30 points in any one group, they will qualify to enter a dog from that group at Crufts 2020. If a member gains 30 or more points in multiple groups, they may only compete with one dog at Crufts, but they will have the option to choose from any of the groups they have 30 or more points in. All points are reset to 0 on 1st January each year. In order to enter any YKC competition, you must be a fully paid up member at the time of entry and competition. If you enter a Crufts qualifier and you have not previously paid your membership fee then any award will be forfeited. Before competing, please view a full list of the YKC competition rules at: www.ykc. org.uk/ and follow the compete tab. SPECIAL OPEN RACING OR LURE COURSING () For Kennel Club registered Greyhounds which must also be registered with the G.B.G.B. which have either (a) competed in a race with a club affiliated to the G.B.G.B. or (b) competed in a lure course with one of the following clubs, British Field Association or the Sussex Longdog Association (the name of the Club and the date of the event must be shown on the entry form). 17 THE KENNEL CLUB DESIGNATED CATEGORY 3 BREEDS VETERINARY EXAMINATIONS The winnners of BOB in the Category 3 Breeds will be requested by a Representative of the Society to present their exhibit to the Show's Veterinary Surgeon for examination prior to them competing in the Group. Exhibits that require examination prior to having their Champion title confirmed by the Kennel Club are requested to approach the Veterinary Surgeon on the day of the show to make an appointment, or if the exhibit had gained its third Challenge Certificate prior to the WELKS show and the exhibitor is intending to use the services of the WELKS Veterinary Surgeon, it is suggested that they make contact with the Secretary, Miss Helen Wayman, on 01452 538012 prior to the show so that an appointment can be made. There will be the opportunity for Health Assessments to be carried out by the Veterinary Surgeon at a cost of £15.00 plus VAT. Entered dogs only. Further information from the Secretary (see above). It should be borne in mind that all examinations will have to be fitted in when the Veterinary Surgeon is available and not while he is carrying out a treatment.

REGULATIONS FOR THE PREPARATION OF DOGS FOR EXHIBITION F (Annex B) 1. These Regulations must be observed when a dog is prepared for exhibition and/or exhibited at any Kennel Club Licensed event. Objections may be referred to the Kennel Club Board for disciplinary action under these Show Regulations and/or for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rule A11. a) A dog found to have been exhibited in breach of these Regulations will automatically be disqualified from exhibition at the show and from any award gained thereat. b) Unless the exhibitor provides a satisfactory explanation for the dog being exhibited in breach of these Regulations then he/she may be subject to further penalties of either a fine or as listed under Rule A11. 2. a) No substance which alters the natural colour, texture or body of the coat may be present in the dog's coat for any purpose at any time during the Show. No substance which alters the natural colour of any external part of the dog may be present on the dog for any purpose at any time during the Show. b) Any other substance (other than water) which may be used in the preparation of a dog for exhibition must not be allowed to remain in the coat or on any other part of the dog at the time of exhibition. 3. No act or operation which alters the natural conformation of a dog or any part thereof may be performed except: (a) Operations certified to the satisfaction of the Kennel Club Board. (b) The removal of dew claws of any breed. (c) Operations to prevent breeding provided that such operations are notified to the Kennel Club before neutered dogs are shown. Nor must anything be done calculated in the opinion of the Kennel Club Board to deceive. 4. The Kennel Club Board without previous notice may order an examination of any dog or dogs at any Show. Any examination thus ordered will be made by a person having executive authority who shall have a written directive from the Kennel Club in their possession. Samples may be taken for further examination and analysis. 5. An individual has the right to lodge an objection to a dog only if he/she is the owner or handler of a dog competing in the same breed or class. An objection may, however, be lodged by an official of the Show or by anyone so deputed by the Kennel Club. It will be the responsibility of the individual who lodges the objection or the official (as appropriate) to substantiate the grounds for the objection. The Kennel Club will substantiate the grounds for an objection made on its behalf. 6. Any objection by an individual related to an infringement of these Regulations must be made in writing to the Show Secretary at his/her office before the close of the Show and the individual must produce evidence of identity at the time of lodging the complaint.

18 EXHIBITORS NOTICES

USE OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AT SHOWS: The Kennel Club is becoming increasingly concerned at the amount of electrical equipment being used by exhibitors at shows, including hair dryers and hair straighteners and other grooming devices. Electrical equipment should not be brought to shows unless absolutely necessary. In rare instances where it might be required, it should be PAT tested and permission sought from the secretary of the show before it is used. The Kennel Club has also been informed of recent instances of exhibitors commandeering certain areas of a venue in order to have access to powerpoints so as to use electrical grooming equipment. This is totally unacceptable and particularly unfair on the breeds whose allocated areas have been cramped because of this selfish behaviour. A Kennel Club spokesperson said: “The number of exhibitors using electrical equipment at shows appears to be on the increase, which is of concern to both show societies and the Kennel Club. We have even heard of instances of dogs being brought along to shows sopping-wet, which is totally unnecessary as most grooming should be done at home, with the dog merely requiring a quick ‘brush up’ before it goes in the ring. These are conformation dog shows and not grooming competitions, after all.”

TEMPORARY STRUCTURES 1. The Hirer shall inform TCAT of all Temporary Structures it intends to use 30 days before the Event. The Hirer shall provide TCAT with the following at least 30 days before the Event: 2. Details of who will provide the Temporary Structure and who intends to erect the Temporary Structure; a) a plan detailing the location of the Temporary Structure on the Showground; and b) details of its nominated health and safety individual trained to a NEBOSH certificate level (the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) or a nominated person who will attend training with TCAT prior to the Event. 3. Once on site the proposed area must be ‘CAT scanned’ by TCAT prior to any Temporary Structure being erected. 4. Immediately following the erection of the Temporary Structure, the Hirer shall provide to TCAT: a) a ‘handover certificate’ or equivalent, confirming that the Temporary Structure has been erected properly and is safe and ready for use (in cases where the Temporary Structure is provided and erected by a specialist company approved by TCAT); b) a certificate to confirm that the Temporary Structure has been erected properly and is safe for use from either a Health and Safety professional or a suitably qualified individual where a Temporary Structure is provided by someone other than a specialist company approved by TCAT or is erected by someone without specific qualifications; and c) risk assessments to demonstrate the Temporary Structure is safe for use at the Event. Such risk assessments must make reference to wind capability and anchorage of the structure.

SECURITY AT SHOWS: In light of recent events the Kennel Club would like to issue a reminder to all societies of importance of security at Dog Shows. The Kennel Club understands due to the nature of dog shows and the quantity of paraphernalia exhibitors bring it would be extremely difficult for show organisers to take on the issue of security alone, therefor we would reiterate the advice given by the Police and security services, that everyone in the Uk should remain vigilant and this applies equally to those organising and taking part in dog shows. The importance of exhibitors feeling that they and their dogs are safe when attending a show cannot be underestimated. We would therefore remind you of the importance of the need for show organisers and EXHIBITORS to remain mindful of the potential dangers and that all visitors generally need to be vigilant and alert. Should anyone see anything suspicious or of concern speak immediately to an official at the show.

34 TIPS FOR NEWER EXHIBITORS

• There is a Breed Standard which lists the ideal features and conformation for every breed shown. • Exhibitors go to shows to compare their stock to that of the other breeders and obtain the view of the Judge on the day. The Judge is generally very experienced in the breed, depending on the level of the show you are attending. Some of the small shows will have a judge do several breeds. • By becoming a member of a Breed Club relevant to your breed you can obtain a lot of information. • Finding out where shows are to be held is relatively easy; schedules are available from Secretaries and there are two major websites which list the shows for which they are taking entries. Much of this information can be found in the Diary published by Our Dogs. • When you complete your entry form look it over to make sure you have not missed anything, do not enter too many classes, one or two at most for your first time. • If you have a schedule with a plan or timings for the rings on the day read all this and work out how to arrive in good time. If you receive passes look at them and find out where your benches are going to be found and see if it gives you a ring number. • Take the appropriate grooming things for your own dog plus a bowl and water at least. • When you arrive do not rush, take your time, reassure your dog the whole time and watch where it is both in relation to yourself but also in relation to other dogs. Do not let your dog annoy the dogs that are with other people and hope that they will treat you and yours with the same respect. • Find your ring, have a look at what is happening and watch to see what the judge expects of both the dog and the exhibitors. They might have all the dogs facing one way or even facing front. Watch how they approach the dogs to go over them and be sure that yours is held firmly when it comes to your turn. Watch what pattern they request in the ring and listen to what they say, then do it according to the instructions. Just like at your training class, if you have been to one. • Talk to your dog and reassure it both in the ring and outside, when you have done your bit for the judge praise the dog and then stand it properly so that it looks right if they glance over at you. The expense for this opportunity is all expended in that few minutes in the ring so try to make the most of the time you are there. There will be plenty of time to chat later. • If you are unhappy with the result leave the complaining until you are in the car and on the way home. If you have had conversations with anyone who is knowledgeable in the breed you could enquire how your dog looked in the ring and also ask them for tips and information. If they are showing wait until they have come out of the ring or have a long break between classes. • The most important thing is to enjoy the experience, your dog has not changed, even if it did not win, so you leave happy and come back again another day.
