The Big D W&L Subaru W Forfeit

There was absolute pandemonium this week in the Miller Center Basketball league. There were upsets, clutch shots and a whole lot of emotions. Let’s dive into the recaps of these past games.

 Hughesville opened the door wide open for a top seed for 5 other teams in this league. The Flint Tropics were not intimidated by Hughesville’s brute offensive attack and kept their composure into the final vital seconds of the game. Tropics’ Erich Kline still carrying a heavy load for his team, with scoring 30 points and hitting the game winning three-pointer. However, teammate Zach Shelton aided Kline with knocking down 5 consecutive three-pointers. Hughesville’s Sean Coller scored an outstanding 20 points and combined with Conrad Sheatler’s 16 points to make up for more than half of their team’s total points. Unfortunately for Hughesville, the Flint Tropics wouldn’t rest knowing their season and possible dispassion was on the line.

 W&L Subaru finally found themselves in the driver’s seat against the Big Ballers. Even though the Big Ballers only had 4 active players this week, the game as a whole was a well-played one. The game came down to and W&L Subaru hit their foul shots to upset the Big Ballers. W&L Subaru’s Mark Forbes dropped 5 three-pointers and ended the night with 20 points. In addition to Forbes, teammates Mike Rorke and Andy Long sunk 3 three-pointers each. The Big Ballers’ Ryan Lockman had a career high, prior to Lockman icing up his back, he scored 35 of his teams 62 points.

 Sadly, The Big D had to forfeit their game because they were held up with saving lives and making sure that the quality of health care was met. This meant that W&L Subaru drove their way to not only their first win of this season but their second as well. W&L Subaru will finish it’s season against the Locust Gap Fire Company while the Big D will fight for the playoffs against The Big Ballers.

 On a night of good defense and a monster alley-oop dunk, Locust Gap Fire Company couldn’t put the fire out as the Supersonics burnt them up, 59-44. Michael Rudy led the all-around hot Sonics attack with 19 points, including a lit alley-oop dunk in the face of Locust Gap, and added a couple of three pointers to add to the ashes. Nick Jaskua wasn’t far behind Rudy with 17 points, and was blazing down low both offensively and defensively for Locust Gap all night. For Locust Gap, Shawn Collier sporting his green Locust Gap Jersey wearing #33, Larry Bird style, shot like him in the first half with nine points, all coming by way of the three-point fire hose. In the second half, Zack Toeylosky brought his loaded fire hose and used it to the tune of 14 points, 12 of them being three pointers. In the end, the hot three-point shooting wasn’t enough to douse the well balanced, suffocating attack of the Supersonics. The Gap will try to get back on the ladder next week against W&L Subaru, while the Sonics will get Tropical when taking on the Flint Tropics.

 The Process closed out a close one this week. EEFAC gave a great fight and the game until literally the final second. The Process really proved that their team doesn’t live and die with Dom Hoffman, players like Jermaine Truax, Greg Pask and Mike O’Connor proved that they are all scorers. Even Joe Meehan was cleared from the injured list for some very restricted playing time. EEFAC’s Marlo Egleston showed off her shooting ability and dropped 5 three-pointers in this contest. Teammates’ Jordan Jackson, Andrew Weiner and Frank Denick all picked up the slack for absent offensive tools Keiron Smethers and Quinn Henry. This game was won by a buzzer beating and one that was made after a foul call at the buzzer, by Jermaine Truax. EEFAC will now need to fight for its playoff hopes against Hughesville while the Process will have a bye week sitting as the #1 seed.
