Tel: 01 888 2000 Fax: 01 888 2888 E-mail: [email protected] Website: www.irlgov.ie 75 5 Sub-Programme: National Roads and Public Transport Measure: National Roads This Measure focuses on the inter-urban routes to be developed to motorway/high quality dual carriageway standard as follows: I Euroroutes EOI and National Route N1 (Dublin to Border) I N7 Limerick to Dublin I N8 (Cork to Portlaoise linking to N7 to Dublin) I N4/N6 (Galway to Dublin) I N7/N9/N10 (Waterford to Dublin) Other National Primary Routes – this development will focus on the improvement of: I Routes to the Border/North-West G N2 (Dublin/Monaghan linking to Omagh/Derry) G N3 (Dublin/Belturbet linking to Enniskillen/Derry) G N4 (Kinnegad to Sligo) G N5 (Castlebar/Longford) G N13/N14/N15 (Sligo/Donegal/Lifford/Letterkenny linking to Derry) G N16 (Sligo/Blacklion linking to Enniskillen/Dungannon/Larne) G N26 (Ballina/Foxford) I N17, N18, N19, N24 and N25 (Western Corridor from Sligo through Limerick to Rosslare) I Roads in the South-West G N20 (Limerick/Cork), N21 (Tralee/Limerick) G N22 (Tralee/Killarney/Cork) G N25 Cork/Waterford) N28 (Cork/Ringaskiddy) I Roads in the South-East G N11 (Dublin/Wexford) and N30 (Wexford/Waterford) In the Dublin area priorities are: I To complete the M50 C Ring through completion of the Southern Cross and South-Eastern Motorways I To increase the capacity of the M50 I To complete the Dublin Port Tunnel Improvement work will also be undertaken on national secondary routes. E-mail: [email protected] Website: www.nra.ie 76 Guide to Funding 5 Measure: Public Transport DTI Public Transport and Traffic Management This Measure consists of I Development of a light rail system (LUAS) I Enhancement of the existing network of suburban rail services in the short term and an evaluation of a longer term development programme I Extending and increasing the capacity of the bus network I Traffic management programme Light Rail The introduction of light rail (Luas) is an integral part of plans to revitalise Dublin’s public transport system. Section 5: Section The main objective over the period 2000-2006 is to complete 3 lines: I Line A (Tallaght to Abbey Street) I Line B (Sandyford to St. Stephen’s Green) I Line C (Abbey Street to Connolly Station) Programme Economic & Social Infrastructure In addition, on 31 July 2000 the Government announced it had approved in principle the development of a Metro system for Dublin. The Metro will be developed on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis, and is a key element of the medium to long-term integrated transportation strategy proposed by the Dublin Transportation Office. Suburban Rail The proposed short-term suburban rail development programme includes the following elements: I Phased purchase of additional DART cars and diesel rail cars, which together with increased platform lengths will permit the introduction of 8 car trains; I Resignalling of Howth to Barrow Street and crossover works to provide slots for 3 additional peak hour services I Upgrading of the Greystones to Arklow Line I Upgrading the line between Heuston and Connolly stations and quadrupling of track on the Kildare line to separate long distance and suburban services I Provision of new or improved Dublin suburban rail stations and new depot facilities Traffic Management The proposed traffic management programme includes: I Provision of 5 additional QBCs in addition to the 12 outlined by the DTO I Enhancement/extension of existing QBCs I Provision of Park&Ride facilities I Further development of cycle networks I Development of traffic signalling and informatics systems Budget 2000-2006: €2.07bn This Measure is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund Contact: Department of Public Enterprise Kildare Street, Dublin 2. Website: www.cie.ie Sub-Programme: Environmental Infrastructure Measure: Waste Water This Measure involves the provision of wastewater collection, treatment and disposal systems including the extension and upgrading of existing sewerage infrastructure. 86 schemes will require funding over the period of the plan to achieve compliance with the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive.
