“Witchy Woman” Janna Moll’s presentation on Witchcraft Networking Zoom Meeting May 27, 2020 Witchcraft has been around as long as indigenous cultures and each have had practices to heal, honor life, and manifest outcomes. An early name for these practitioners is ‘Shaman’. Their practices have in more recent times been considered a tradition of ‘magick’. This magic results from intentional use of ceremony, rituals, and the casting of spells in witchcraft. The practice of magic with an affinity to nature usually occurs within a pagan tradition. Origins are believed to have been sorcerers in the ancient near East and Nile Valley before the advent of Christianity. Druids identified as Christians in the 18th century. Modern Druidry are pagans from the learned class of the Celts. Celtic religion is polytheistic (believing in many deities). Pagans are deeply aware of the natural world and see the divine in the ongoing cycle of life and death. They are eco-friendly. Wicca (considered a religion) is different from other forms of contemporary paganism, though they share influences. Wicca arose in the early 20th century and was taught and practiced through secret covens. Most Wiccan groups are duotheistic believing in the Horned God of fertility (male) and the Mother Goddess (female). Wicca is known as the religion of ‘witches’, a practice that celebrates the glory of nature. It is difficult to say whether Wicca is a new religion or an old one. Guiding Principles The Three-Fold Law or the Law of Return is the belief that what you put out into the world, both in action as well as your presence, comes back to you three-fold. A personal code in witchcraft is, “Do what you will and do no harm.” Wicca is a way of life and a belief system where the highest priorities are personal integrity and respect for Mother Nature. Holidays Holidays in Wicca are identified as days of power for creating spells and performing rituals. These are either Sabbats (seasonal days based upon the sun’s position) or Esbats (cycles of the moon). Spell Work Casting a Circle Casting a Circle creates the safe, sacred and protected space within which all work usually takes place. Before casting a circle, sweep (can be symbolic) the space to purify it. You can sprinkle the area with saltwater as well. Use an Athame (blade) to draw the circle in a clockwise direction on the ground or in the air. A wand may also be used, usually if it is drawn in the air. You may also use your hand! Tap into the sacred and nature energy around you and use this to raise the vibration of the circle. Intention Attuning your subconscious mind to your desired outcome sets intention for the work you are going to do. Magic is about empowerment and casting a circle also concentrates your intention within your actions. Honor the Directions East focus: grounds your energy. Move clockwise, visualizing the entire boundary (circle). The circle also extends above and below you. Let the ritual take over and feel the sacred space around you. Feel the Divine nature of the space. Stay within the established boundary or the circle is broken. Once the circle is cast you may call upon deities, spirits or elementals to assist you, gaze into a mirror or crystal ball to gather intended information, create a spell or charm, or honor the Goddess/Nature and/or yourself. [See below.] (From Fierce Fairytales – Gill) Super Simple Spells for Protection Freezer: Place the name of someone from whom you are needing removal from your circle of influence on a piece of paper. Place the paper in a Ziplock bag and fill it with water. Place it in the freezer to ‘freeze’ the person out of your life. This stays in the freezer longer than you imagine and can stay there forever. If you would like to remove/end the spell at some point, take the bag and empty the contents into a body of water (lake/river) and throw away the bag. You may also bury it away from your home or workplace. [Think ‘ugly into beauty’ and pick a spot for the release that is in harmony and full of beauty.] Bury: Take some item of the person’s (name on a paper, hair, object) and bury it away from where you live or work. [See note above.] No: Saying the word, “NO!” emphatically is an excellent spell. Simple Charm for Keeping Finely powder the seeds in a pestle and mortar while keeping your intent in mind. Sprinkle a little of this powder over things you wish to keep safe from being stolen, such as your car, bag, and so on. 3 tsp. Caraway seeds 3 tsp.
