Sindh Rain Situation Update by HANDS 26th August-2020 Monsoon rain continued on 25th August 2020 in different Districts of Sindh including Karachi, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Matiari, Shaheed Benazirabad, Badin, Tando Jam, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Tando Bago, Thatta, Sujawal, Sanghar, Naushehro Feroz, Jamshoro, Dadu, Larkana and Qambar Shahdadkot. According to Pakistan Meteorological Department that maximum Rain recorded in Dadu 142 mm, Karachi (Faisal Base 134, Gulshan-e- Hadid 122, Nazimabad 91, Saddar 88, Landhi 85, Old Airport 81, University Road 79, Saadi Town 72, Masroor Base 68, Jinnah Terminal 67, North Karachi 50, Surjani Town 46, Kemari 24). Pad Edan 110, Thatta 89, Moen jo Daro 82, Larkana66, Mirpurkhas 54, Shaheed Benazirabad 49, Sanghar (Khipro 180 mm, Sangahr 40, Tando Adam 28, Sinjhoro 12, Shahdadpur 8, Jam Nawaz Ali 02), Tando Mohammad Khan 64 mm, (Tando Ghulam Hyder 50 and Bulri Shah Karim 45), Jacobabad 23 mm, Chor 17, Mithi 13, Rohri 12, Sukkur & Hyderabad 06 and Badin 01. According to local Communities and Media following losses are Reported. • Total 13 persons have lost their lives during heavy rains which include 7 in Karachi, 03 in Hyderabad, 01 in Mirpurkhas, 01 in Badin and 01 in Thatta, • Total 66 Persons are injured in different rain related incidents in all rain affected areas. • Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued Flood Warning in District Dadu due to mountainous water (Gaaj) flow 13’ feet roads are again damaged • Due to overflow of Gujjar Nalla water entered in houses people are shifted on safe places • Thado Dam over flowed due to rain water • Loss of Large Animals (Buffalos) is reported from District Malir Karachi • Total 202 villages are under the rain water in District Tando Mohammad Khan • Dada Bhai band breached near Baloch Colony • Stagnant water on many roads of Karachi vehicles stuck in different areas • Power Breakdown observed in all over the rain affected Districts. • Many Villages are under the water and people are shifted on road sides • Kacha shelters are damaged in huge quantity in all rain affected Districts • There is stagnant rain water in Sindh Secretariat, Forest Department, Cooperative Department and office of Secretary livestock and fisheries. Government Response: • Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali shah has declared Rain Emergency in the Province and directed to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to start relief operation. He visited the different rain affected areas of Karachi and directed to concern authorities to take necessary steps for public relief. • On the instructions of Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali shah initial survey of losses is started by Government Departments. • According to Managing Director Water Board that they have established Emergency Complaint Centre in Karachi (02199245138, 02199245139, 02199245140) all Chief Engineers are monitoring dewatering activities which are started in different areas of Karachi. HANDS Response: • HANDS has started Rapid Need Assessment (RNA) in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar Sanghar and Hyderabad. • On the request of communities HANDS has mobilized three machines to provide services to affected households in Karachi District Malir. • On the request of local communities two Dewatering Machines are provided in Qaidabad and Khudabad Karachi • Dewatering services are going on in Mirpurkhas on the request of District Administration • On the request of local communities dewatering services are provided in District Badin • All HANDS District Offices are in close coordination with District Administration for further situation analysis and response planning.
