During the meeting Dr Palitha Mahipala highlighted the importance of implementation of targeted Public Health measures, strengthening surveillance and risk communication during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Its members contribute nearly 25% of the national tax revenue, generate 40% of annual exports and contribute every 9th rupee to Pakistan’s GDP. Members operate in nearly all sectors of the formal economy and many have a strong presence in Sindh. PBC appreciates the proactive steps taken by your government to contain the spread of the Covid- 19. No doubt countless lives have been saved. We also record our appreciation of the phased and safety driven manner in which your government has allowed economic activity to resume. Many of our members in food, pharmaceutical, iron and steel and export sectors in Sindh have demonstrated a heightened sense of responsibility to safe-work practices. There are anomalies between the sectors allowed to reopen by various provinces. These are working to the detriment of those with manufacturing facilities in Sindh. As a result, the Sindh based units are losing revenue and market share, whilst continuing to pay employees and incur fixed costs. A case in point is electronic appliance manufacturers which have been allowed to reopen in Punjab, whilst those in Sindh are still locked down. PBC urges you to allow industries other than steel, cement and apparel to resume operations, conditional of course to compliance with the SOPs prescribed. Prolonged shutdown carries the risk of permanent closure of some undertakings and the consequent loss of jobs and revenue to the Government of Sindh.

    Note for Record By: Shoaib Sultan Khan January 12, 2018 Subject: - The Empowered Women of Rural Sindh In 2009 when Chief Minister of the province Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah approved launching of Union Council Based Poverty Reduction Programme (UCBPRP) for the two poorest districts of Sindh, because of my experience in India of mobilising over 10 million rural women in State of Andhra Pradesh through UNDP and World Bank assistance, I submitted to the Chief Minister that UCBPRP will only work with women. He smiled and observed you may try. The women of Kashmore and Shikarpur responded so enthusiastically and positively that UCBPRP was picked up by European Union in 2015 giving funds to implement empowerment of women in another eight districts, in addition to four districts being funded by the provincial exchequer. This brought the rural women being empowered to over one million. As EU, while initially UCBPRP, renamed Sindh Union Council and Community Economic Strengthening Support Programme (SUCCESS), conveyed to the Provincial Government a message that EU was not a substitute to government and expect remaining districts to be taken up by the provincial government, in 2017 Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah made funds available to cover another six districts by UCBPRP. On January 8, 2018 the launch of the UCBPRP in six districts was organised by Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO) at Sukkur, which was graced by Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, ex-Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and a large number of other distinguished guests including Provincial Page 1 of 5 Ministers, Senators, MNAs, MPAs, Chairman Planning & Development Department, Commissioner Sukkur and provincial and local officials.

It is directed to take all precautionary measures to face the situation. According to Communities and local Media Reports that: Water flow at Guddu Barrage upper flow 514,743 cusecs lower flow is 427,025 cusecs high level flood forecast for today 08-09-2020. Water pressure is increasing on protection walls. Kacha Area from Sukkur to Khairpur is under the water due to increase in flow of River Indus. District Dadu Kacha area is also affected in rain almost 30 villages are under water, crops are also damaged and connecting roads are disconnected. Rain water could not be removed from District Sanghar people are protesting for relief, they blocked road from Location 18 Mel.     H.E Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister, Government of Sindh, Honorable Mr. Jam Mehtab Dahar, Minister Education, Government of Sindh, Respected Mr. Abdul Aziz Uqaili, Secretary School Education, Government of Sindh, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, Assalam-o-Alaikum It is a great pleasure for me to be here with you today at this inauguration and handing-over ceremony of schools that have been constructed with Japan’s Grant Aid Projects intended for upgrading primary girls schools into middle schools in Southern and Rural Sindh, worth 1.8 billion Japanese Yen, equivalent to around Rs. 1.8 billion. This Grant Aid is being implemented through two phases. Phase-1 has completed in Southern Sindh and today’s ceremony is to hand over the schools constructed under this phase. Phase-2 has also commenced in Northern Sindh. The Grant Aid is being used for infrastructure improvement and extension of school buildings and will also provide necessary school furniture and computers for IT education. After the completion of both Grant Aid projects, 54 primary girls’ schools would have been upgraded to middle schools and every year, it is anticipated that 6,600 girls can be admitted in the schools in rural Sindh. This assistance will help to minimize the gender gap and gap between urban and rural formal education in selected Districts of Sindh. Availing of this opportunity let me also share with you, Japan’s other involvements in the education sector in Pakistan. We recognize that 11 Million children of primary & middle school age in Pakistan are still out of school, out of which 3.8 million are in Sindh, 4.
