Sci. 8(2): 13-24, 2019 (December) Checklist of the pteridophytes of Narsingdi District, Bangladesh Robayda Khanam, Saleh Ahammad Khan and Mohammod Abdur Rahim Plant Systematics and Biodiversity Laboratory, Department of Botany, Jahangirnagar University, Savar, Dhaka-1342, Bangladesh Abstract The occurrence of a total of 31 species of pteridophytes under 20 genera and 13 families in Narsingdi district were confirmed. Pteridaceae with 11 species was found as the largest family, which was followed by Salviniaceae and Polypodiaceae consisted of four species each and Thelypteridaceae with three species. Each of the rest nine families was represented by only one species. Pteris with six species was found as the largest genus, which was followed by Salvinia with three species, and Adiantum, Ceratopteris, Pyrrosia and Cyclosorus with two species each. Each of the rest 14 genera was represented by only one species. Among these species, 21 were found as terrestrial, two as both terrestrial and semiaquatic, four as aquatic and other four as epiphytic. The occurrence of Tectaria chattagrammica Ching, listed as DD (Data Deficient) in Red Data Book of Bangladesh, was common with natural regeneration in this district. Abstract Qualitative and quantitative studies were done on leaf epidermal characteristics with special reference to stomatal features to find out the impact of environmental condition on twenty four accessions of Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. collected from different ecological habitats of Bangladesh. The foliar epidermal peels from both surfaces of mature leaves were observed under microscope. The leaves were found to be amphistomatic and stomata were paracytic type. The epidermal cells in this study were found to be sinuous. Silica bodies were found to be saddle and cross shaped. Prickles angular were pointed at the tip. Macro-hairs were present in all the accessions, but no micro-hair was found both adaxially or abaxially. Stomatal frequency and stomatal index were found to vary from accession to accession on both adaxial and abaxial surface of leaves, and the differences were statistically significant in most of the cases. Images of bands 1 - 5 and 7 of Landsat 4 - 5 TM and Landsat 7 ETM+ imagery recorded in years 2001, 2005 and 2009 are classified using unsupervised classification with the technique of image segmentation. It is found that during the eight year period, paddy area increased from 30% to 37%, followed by the increase in the homestead (55% to 57%) and urban area (1% to 3%). These changes occurred at the expense of the decrease in forest land cover (14% to 3%). In the category of homestead, the presence of different kinds of vegetation often makes it difficult to separate the category from paddy field, though paddy exhibits accuracy of 93.70% - 99.95%, which is better than the values for other categories.

As the transmission line will not have any impact on erosion, a further detailed analysis of erosion was not required for the project. Flooding Flooding situation of the study area is very nominal. The local people informed that, only the historical flash flood occurred in the year of 1988, 1998 and 2004. Flooding of 1988 and 1998 severely affected almost the entire study area. The duration of 1988 and 1998 flood was around 1-1.5 months with flood level of 6-7 ft.

    Dear Store Manager: Mark’s, Sports Experts, and Sport Chek (all owned by Canadian Tire) continue to operate in the dark when it comes to their global supply chain for clothing. They do not disclose the names and addresses of factories they source their garments from. That means human rights watch dogs and labour advocates can’t independently verify that garments sold under Canadian Tire’s private labels are manufactured in factories that are safe and where workers rights are respected, and can’t ask Canadian Tire for corrective action in specific factories when problems arise. Last year Canadian Tire reported that it sourced from 67 factories in Bangladesh, but didn’t say which factories. Attached to this letter is a list of 67 factories randomly selected from the list of factories in Bangladesh that have been inspected for safety by the Alliance for Worker Safety, of which Canadian Tire is a member. Could you please tell us if these are the 67 factories that are part of your global supply chain, or identify which of them is? Better yet, please follow the lead of other leading global retailers and institute public reporting of all factories you do use in Bangladesh and around the world. We are asking you to publicly disclose the names and addresses of all the factories you source your garments from. We want to be sure that workers employed in your global supply chain are: • treated fairly and with respect at work • paid a living wage • able to exercise their rights to form unions and bargain collectively • work in safe factories.
