Day 3-5 ( 30-31 May, 1 June ) In Longcanggou, because of the road construction, the road was too muddy, we hired 2 local vans. Heavy fog in the first day and sometimes raining in the 2 days there. Got 1 adult male and 1 juvenile male Temminck’s Tragopan on the roadside together in the morning, the highlight of that day, we stopped behind them, and went out of the van, they are still there for at least 10 minutes, everybody got very good view of them even in the fog. 1 male Lady Amherst’s Pheasant was spotted by me in far distance on the roadside in the afternoon on the way back, as we stopped in far distance, so the pheasant not scared by us, still there, and the second van managed to get a good angle, so everybody can see it through the van, these two sightings are the most excited moment in Longcanggou in that day. The monkey trackers in the panda base went in the very early morning to the wild monkeys’ sleeping place in the high mountain to push them to the lower area into a specific place in the panda base where tourists will come to visit, and stay with the money to keep them in the same place for the whole day until tourists left, the trackers said, without them to keep the moneys stay around, the monkeys will leave the place within 15 mins into the deep forest. The monkeys go back to high mountain to sleep every day, so the trackers have to climb the mountain every morning to attract them into the panda base. And every 1-2 months, they will change a place to hold the money, otherwise the monkeys will destroy the trees and plants on that place. There is another park do monkey tracking too in Changqing, Shanxi, but that place’s trees and plants were totally destroyed by monkeys as they didn’t change place.
