The school is accessible by public as well as private transportation. school E La Salle Academy is a Catholic college preparatory school operating in the tradition of St. John Baptist de La Salle. It serves 1,385 students from diverse backgrounds in Grades 9 through 12 and 200 students in Grades 6 through 8 at De La Salle Middle School. La Salle Academy is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Rhode Island Department of Education. facilities E Founded in 1871 as an elementary school for boys, La Salle Academy quickly became a secondary school and moved to its current location in 1925. The original building houses computer networked classrooms, a 590-seat auditorium/performance center (2011), a library, the Brother Michael Mc Kenery Arts Center with a 350-seat three-quarter stadium theater, an arts area that includes a video studio, dance studio, choral room, band complex, art studios and a renovated administrative office suite (2017). On-campus buildings include the McLaughlin Athletic Center (2000) with its three large basketball courts, indoor practice track, weight room, dance room and locker rooms; and, the Shea Science and Student Center (2004) with 11 state-of-the- art combined laboratory/classrooms, a student la salle academy dining area, and a Campus Ministry Office suite. The Academy also makes use administrators of a Retreat Center and large Chapel in the adjacent Routhier Hall. During the Br. Thomas Gerrow summer of 2011 the outdoor facilities were reconstructed to provide a synthetic President turf game field for soccer, football and lacrosse (with bleachers seating 1,800), Mr. Donald Kavanagh a synthetic turf baseball field, an all-weather 400m track, concession stand, Principal and restroom facilities. Recent improvements include newly-resurfaced tennis Mrs. Leanne Romani courts, an outdoor pavilion, and a state-of-the-art wrestling room. Vice Principal/Academics Mr. Thomas Martin faculty E The Academy is directed by the De La Salle Christian Brothers and Vice Principal/Student Life is administered by competent Lasallian educators, both lay men and women and Brothers. The faculty and administration consist of 135 men and women, school counseling about 3/5 of which hold advanced degrees. The teacher-student ratio is 1:12.
