Credentialed media should enter the building through the media entrance on the east or right side (nearest to Connelly Library) entrance of the Hayman Center when facing the building. Credentials Requests for credentials should be made to Kevin Bonner (215-951-1513/[email protected]) at least one week prior to the game. All season passes should be picked up at the Press Gate. Photographers Photographers must have their photo passes visible at all times on the sidelines. All photographers must shoot from the baseline. Parking Parking is very limited. Advance notice to the Athletic Communications Office is required. Additional park- ing is available on the West Campus located across Wister Street on the property of the Germantown Hospi- tal facility. To enter from Hayman Center, proceed west on Olney Avenue for 1/5 mile and turn left on Wister Street. Entrance to lot is one quarter of the way down hill on your right. Post-Game Interviews Both head coaches will be available in the Media Room after a 10-minute cooling off period. Order of coaches appearance in post-game interview to be determined on a per-game basis. La Salle’s locker room is closed to the media. Telephones Telephones are available for the media’s use in the Media Suite and on press row. Media Room The Media Suite at Hayman Center was dedicated in honor of John Glaser ’62 in 2002 and is located on the Mezzanine Level. Theaterstyle seating with Internet and phone line access is available for 29 people. Food and beverages will be made available to working media only approximately 90 minutes prior to tip-off. The Media Room will be locked during the first half, open at halftime and re-locked for the second half. Personal items left in the room will be done so at the owner’s risk. With 12 NCAA Tournament berths in the last 14 seasons, seven Sweet Sixteen appearances, a pair of consecutive Final Four showings, and the 2002 national championship – the first of its kind in Maryland basketball history – Williams and his staff have literally forged what is now more than a decade of dominance in college basketball’s most storied and competitive conference. Now, with 378 victories as Maryland’s head coach, Williams is the school’s Terrapins all-time winningest head coach, eclipsing the mark of former Terp mentor Charles “Lefty” Driesell, who amassed 348 victories in 17 seasons from 1969-70 to 1985-86. The Terrapins have averaged 23.0 wins per year since the 1994-95 season. With 585 career victories in 29 seasons overall, Williams is the seventh-winningest active head coach in NCAA Division I men’s basketball. Williams was heralded as the national and ACC Coach of the Year during the Terps’ 2002 championship run. He is one of just 12 active coaches in America to boast a national title and one of only three in the conference. He has become the third-winningest coach in ACC history after transforming the Maryland program into one of the nation’s most formidable, and building a Baltimore-D.C.

Graduate Program in Music The Ohio State University 2019 D.M.A. Document Committee: Professor Karen Pierson, Advisor Doctor Arved Ashby Professor Katherine Borst Jones Doctor Russel Mikkelson Copyrighted by Ian Anthony Bell 2019 Abstract This paper is the culmination of a research study to gauge the representation of professional African-American orchestral bassoonists. Are they adequately represented? If they are not adequately represented, what is the cause? Within a determined set of parameters, prominent orchestras and opera companies were examined. Of the 342 orchestral and opera companies studied, there are 684 positions for bassoonists. Sixteen of these jobs are currently held by African-Americans. Some of these musicians hold positions in more than one organization reducing the study to twelve black bassoonists. Translated to a percentage, .022% of the professional bassoonists within these groups are African-American, leading the author to believe that the African-American bassoon community is underrepresented in American orchestras and opera companies. This study also contains a biography of each of the twelve bassoonists. In addition, four interviews and five questionnaires were completed by prominent African- American bassoonists. Commonalities were identified, within their lives and backgrounds, illuminating some of the reasons for their success. Interview participants included Rufus Olivier Jr. (San Francisco Opera), Joshua Hood (Charlotte Symphony Orchestra), Monica Ellis (Imani Winds), Alexander Davis (fellowship recipient), and Andrew Brady (Atlanta Symphony Orchestra).

    July 17 Cleveland Orchestra Concert at Blossom to mark centennial of National Park Service by Neil McCalmont, Mike Telin & Daniel Hathaway On August 25, one hundred years ago, President Woodrow Wilson signed into law the Organic Act of 1916 that established the National Park Service, building on the conservationist legacy pioneered in 1872 with the creation of the first National Park at Yellowstone. Since 1933, the Service has also managed National Memorials, Military Parks, Cemeteries, and Historical Areas. A latecomer to the national parks family in 2000, Cuyahoga Valley National Park is the only national park in the state of Ohio, a large chunk of land that includes sites not owned by the federal government — including the Blossom Music Center. On Sunday, July 17 at 7:30 pm, The Cleveland Orchestra will mark the centenary of the National Park Service with a special concert conducted by Bramwell Tovey. In a recent interview with this publication, the Orchestra’s centennial of the National Park Service ​ with a special concert conducted by artistic administrator Ilya Gidalevich noted that the Cuyahoga Valley National Park has played an important role in the history of Blossom Music Center. “We wanted to make sure that we celebrate the National Park Centennial in a special way,” he said. The American­influenced program will include Ravel’s Rapsodie espagnole, Copland’s Suite from Appalachian Spring, and Gershwin’s An ​ ​ ​ ​ American in Paris.
