AFDS 2018 Report of Activities ASEAN FASHION DESIGNERS SHOWCASE REPORT OF ACTIVITIES FOR 2018 1 | P a g e OUR MISSION The ASEAN Fashion Designers Showcase (AFDS) was established on 8 August 2015 as a collective whose key Mission is to raise awareness of and appreciation for ASEAN’s unique and diverse fashion and design. Through this collective, we seek also to promote greater cross-cultural and creative collaboration. OUR VISION We seek to achieve mainstream regional awareness for fashion designers and models nurturing up-and-coming, local fashion designers and models. We want to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the fashion industry in the ASEAN region. We aim to mentor fashion designer students, so that they can find their design direction in the near future. 2 | P a g e ORGANISATION STRUCTURE, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The ASEAN Fashion Designers Showcase has a three-fold structure: 1. Designers Management Board of the ASEAN Fashion Designers Showcase The ASEAN Fashion Designers Showcase is run as a collective and its day-to-day operations are overseen by a Management Board whose key responsibilities include: 1. Running of AFDS Social media platforms 2. Scouting for new ASEAN designer talent 3. Our members are selected based on: 1. Their confidence 2. Personal integrity, trustworthiness and strong ethics 3. Previous senior district executive experience 4. Ability to make informed decisions on important issues, basing decisions on sound principles and common sense 5. Able to voice opinions, ask and answer questions and with respect to others 6. Excellent networking, interpersonal, and communication skills 7. Be objective but with the ability to form their own judgements and opinions 8. Passionate and committed to advancing the ASEAN Fashion Designer Showcase, and recognizing the value of the collective 9. AFDS reserves the right to terminate the services of any Designer with immediate effect whose behavior and thoughts are not in line with the vision of AFDS. With this stable pool of both male and female models, we are better able to support our designers, in particular, our young and upcoming designers. In 2018, new models were invited to be part of the AFDS Model Ambassador Team. They are from Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos. In 2018, the AFDS took on a new regional media partner – Mr Clifford Yap. Name LT Pro Makeup and Hair 1 February 2017 Clifford Yap Media 1 June 2018 FUNDING SOURCES As a collective, we work on the basis that each Designer is responsible for related attributes pertaining to participation in all shows, ie airfares, accommodation etc. We do not restrict them from seeking sponsorship for their participation in any of our events across the region. 2018 ACTIVITIES In 2018, the ASEAN Fashion Designers Showcase organized or participated in a number of fashion events: 1. Myanmar Wedding Showcase: This event took place on 27 May 2018 and featured the work of 9 designers from 9 ASEAN countries and 3 AFDS Models from Laos. 2. Designers from Singapore – Hayden Ng, Cambodia – Natacha Van, Thailand – Pitnapat Yotinratanachai and Malaysia – Micheal Ooi and Malaysia - Melvin Shah represented AFDS at Borneo Fashion Week in Kuching, Malaysia. 3 Model Ambassadors also walked in the shows. 7 | P a g e 3. Ciputra Showcase (Indonesia, Surbaya): Held on 29 September 2018, we featured 14 designers from 9 ASEAN countries and 8 Model Ambassadors participated in the showcases and pop up stores. SPECIAL SHOWCASE – AFDS collaborates Miss World Singapore 2018 and Miss World Malaysia 2018 • Designers from Singapore – Hayden Ng, Cambodia – Natacha Van, Thailand – Pitnapat Yotinratanachai and Malaysia – Micheal Ooi and Malaysia - Melvin Shah representing AFDS dressed all finalists of Miss World Singapore 2018 and Miss World Malaysia 2018. SIGNING OF MoU with CHINA • In December 2018, ASEAN Fashion Designers Showcase agreed to explore ways of cooperation with Huo’erguosi Mojie Culture Media Co. Ltd. entrusting that both parties’ actions aimed at approaching this goal. This resulted in an invitation to AFDS to take part in a regular cooperation and, following the decisions adopted in this regard by the Governing Boards of both organisations, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was recently signed by the Presidents of Huo’erguosi Mojie Culture Media Co. Ltd., Mr Wang HaoTian and ASEAN Fashion Designers Showcase, Mr Hayden Ng. • The signing ceremony of the MoU between Huo’erguosi Mojie Culture Media Co. Ltd. and ASEAN Fashion Designers Showcase took place on the 10th December 2018 in Xi’an China. 8 | P a g e OUR SPONSORS In each of our events in 2018, we were grateful for the support of a number of sponsors who each recognized the value of this collective in profiling the work of ASEAN designers, particularly fledgling designers whose edgy style easily melded the traditional designs of their countries with a twenty-first century look and feel. AFDS will be promoting fashion education, in terms of “how to”, amidst pop up stores and runway shows programmes for 2019. 2. The team is planning for showings in Penang and Myanmar – May 2019 and Malaysia and Surabaya, Indonesia – September 2018. 3. To recruit designers from China to AFDS platform. 9 | P a g e .
