It surrounded by Bursa and Kütahya in the east, İzmir and Manisa in the south, Aegean Sea and Çanakkale in the west, Marmara Sea in the north. City of Balıkesir has 20 districts and its population was 1.189.057 in 2014. Throughout history, Balıkesir was a city of transition and it has coasts on two seas. It has an important place in the economy of Turkey with its agriculture, livestock breeding, forestry, mine and other branches of industry, tourism and trade. The city of Balıkesir has an identity of a modern, safe and peaceful student city with its natural, archeological, historical and cultural beauties. Doğal, arkeolojik, tarihi ve kültürel güzellikleriyle de dikkat çeken Balıkesir; güvenli, huzurlu ve öğrenci dostu modern bir şehir kimliğini taşımaktadır. Transportation to Balıkesir: Balıkesir is in between Istanbul and İzmir highway. It can also be reached via sea and air travel. Balıkesir-İzmir: 176 KM Balıkesir-Bursa: 151 KM Balıkesir-İstanbul: 390 KM Balıkesir-Ankara: 533 KM 8 v Balıkesir University BALIKESİR www.balikesir.edu.tr v 9 History of Balıkesir University The foundation of Balıkesir University trace back to Karesi Teacher School established in 1910. This school has been carried to the building which is used as Necatibey Faculty of Education with particular interests of the Minister of Education, Mr. Mustafa Necati. Till 1982, the number of higher education institues reached 4: Necati Institution of Education, Architecture and Engineering State Academy, Balıkesir School of Industry and Tourism, Balıkesir Vocational School. These foundations changed status with Delegated Legislation No 41, and were connected to Uludag University. Necatibey Teacher’s Training School continued to train teachers between the years 1932 and 1982 under the name of Necati Institution of Education, left its 3-year status, received 4-year-Higher Teacher Training School status. In 1982, having been connected to Uludağ University, this foundation has been called Necatibey Faculty of Education. In the same way, the name of Balıkesir School of Industry and Tourism has been changed as Balıkesir School of Tourism and Hotel Management, but the name of 2-year-Balıkesir Vocational School has remained the same. Having stayed under the roof of Uludağ University for 10 years, these foundations has formed a powerful background for Balıkesir University with healthy and consistent development. Presidency Building, Medical Faculty, Architecture and Engineering Faculty, Arts and Science Faculty, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Tourism Faculty, Balıkesir School of Health, Balıkesir Vocational Faculty of Arts and Sciences School, Sports Centre, Convention Culture Centre, Central Cafeteria, Central Researching Lab, semi-olimpic pool and open sports facilities, two dormitories with the capacity of 1000 and 1500 students, Student life centre are at Cagis Campus. Some students are staying Balıkesir KYK dormitory which has a capacity of 2.024 people. Also, there are two dormitories in Cagis Campus; Residorm with a capacity of 1500 people and KYK with a capacity of 1000 people. Another dormitory is BAÜ Vakfı dormitory with a capacity of 289 people. Apart from these places, the students can rent an apartment in the city and there are also many other private dormitories in the city of Balıkesir. www.balikesir.edu.tr v 17 Dining Services For our students healthy nutrition, food menus are prepared in accordance with the nutritional values and calories of food in the dining hall. The meals are served at affordable prices to our university’s students. Also, free meals are served to the students with financial problems. Apart from the dining hall, there are also canteens and cafes where the students can have breakfast, lunch and dinner. 18 v Balıkesir University www.balikesir.edu.tr v 19 Health Services Medical Facilities In Medico-social unit, four general practitioners, two dentists, one psychologist, eight nurse, serves. Services are provided in the garden of NEF and Çağış Campus within working hours,. In addition, students are provided consultancy services related to all kinds of health problems. Treatment services, emergency response, observed, injections, dressings, wound and burn care are maintained. Through the Ministry of National Education, Foreign students’ expenses for all kinds of health are covered by the Department of Health, Culture, Sports. Such a unit is not on at the university. However, there is a psychologist in the center of Medico. Psychologist provides consulting service about students’ coping with exam stress, adjustment problems, family problems, self-esteem problems,

The aim of this study was to determine the morphological characteristics of Turkish camels raised in Balikesir and Canakkale provinces of Turkey. In this study, a total of 81 male camels were used in Burhaniye County of Balikesir province during a camel wrestling competition. Descriptive statistics of morphological traits for withers height were 161.7±1.42 cm, body length 146.1±1.36 cm, limb length 81.9±0.84 cm, and cannon circumference 16.3±0.24 cm. The results of this study showed that the Turkish camels were smaller than the camels from Sudan and Pakistan. Owners of Turkish camels should be supported by the Turkish government so that they could be survived them as a genetic resource of Turkey for future generations. In spatial terms, cities are the places where urban population lives. During the globalization wave, some cities became more attractive in countries for foreigners. The historical values, educational opportunities, flamboyant architecture and natural beauties of those cities are unique and attract foreign investment and make them international destinations. The main idea behind this development is successful branding of those cities. Globalization transformed to a new era where local entities and values became well known objects in all over the world. This new concept called glocalization where small, simple assets save their historical and physical values and meantime attract many visitors besides its inhabitants from all around the world. The application of international relations concept to city images and planning brought the idea of city branding to academic literature. Brand improvement of cities enables local governors and businessman to have sustainable economic development and financial resources for new investments. The multiplier effect of those investments improves local development capacity of those provinces. Coastal parts of Muğla city are recognized as an international travel destination around the world. It has more than half of the yacht marina capacity of Turkey. The demand for marinas in Muğla also increased in last decade.

Akif Kireçci December 2015 This thesis analyzes the Turkish nationalist propaganda carried out in the Sanjak of Alexandretta during the process of annexation to demonstrate that the Sanjak provides a special case for the study of Republican Turkish nationalism by showing its highly pragmatic and speculative political/ideological discourse in the 1930s. The ways with which the Sanjak region was integrated into the newly defined “Turkish nation” are examined by utilizing archival documents, secondary sources as well as oral history interviews. The special case of the migration of the conservative Sunni Turks to Damascus and the nationalist propaganda towards the Alawite population of the region are brought forward as examples for the pragmatically inclusive nature of Kemalist nationalism. Turkey got heavily affected by these population movements. Especially, following the end of Ottoman sovereignty in the Balkan, struggles for sovereignty and related problems have showed up and continued up until the present time. Meanwhile, thousands of people were displaced from their homelands. Like the Balkans population in Western Anatolia have always been on the move due to population movements and political struggles between the East and the West that have taken place for centuries. Such population movements led to very sorrowful consequences for the Turkish and Muslims particularly from 1787 to the present time. People emigrated from the Balkans and immigrated to Anatolia in great numbers as a result of the Russo-Turkish Wars between 1787 and 1792, which was followed by immigrations after the Russo-Turkish War in 1877-1878, the Balkan War in 1912-1914, the World War I in 1914-1918. Immigrations to Turkey went on owing to population exchanges as required by the Lausanne Treaty in 1923, the unsurpressable unrests in the Balkans in the following years, and the Bosnian War between 1990 and 1995. A good many immigrant settlements have mushroomed across the country as a consequence of these immigrations to Turkey, which have continued from time to time over some 200 years.

Bu amaçla, Burhaniye belediyesinin arşivinden temin edilen arazi ve deney sonuçlarını içeren jeolojik ve jeoteknik etüt raporlarından derlenerek hazırlanan veri tabanı kullanılmıştır. Söz konusu raporlardan temin edilen 97 sondaj verisi kullanılarak bir veri tabanı oluşturulmuş ve bu veriler Coğ- rafi Bilgi Sistemi ortamında değerlendirilmiştir. Burhaniye (Balıkesir) yerleşim alanı için eğim haritası, yeraltı suyu seviyesi ve yeraltı su derinlik haritaları, farklı derinlikler (3, 6, 9, 12 ve 15m) için düzeltilmiş SPT-N değerlerinin da- ğılımı haritaları hazırlanmıştır. Burhaniye (Balıkesir) yerleşim alanını etkileyecek diri fayların uzunlukları ve inceleme alanına olan uzaklıkları dikkate alınarak azalım ilişkisinden, olası en büyük yer ivmesi hesaplanmıştır. Söz

Proje No: T-583/17032005” İstanbul, 2007 i ii ÖZ Bu çalışmada, Balıkesir ili sınırları içinde bulunan Havran Çayı havzasında meydana gelen taşkın ve heyelanlara ait risk analizi, Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri (CBS) ve Uzaktan Algılama (UA) yöntemlerinden faydalanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Havza ölçeğindeki risk yönetimi çalışmalarına temel oluşturacak bu çalışmada, havzadaki taşkın ve heyelanların faklı senaryolara göre ortaya çıkardığı riskler üzerinde durulmuştur. Bunun için, öncelikle sahanın tanınması ve risk analizi çalışmasına yön vermesi bakımından havzanın genel fiziki özellikleri ele alınmıştır. Daha sonra riskin ortaya çıkmasında temel olan havzadaki beşeri faktörler ve doğal faktörler üzerinde durulmuştur. Son olarak da doğal faktörlerin değişik senaryolarına göre risk analizi çalışmaları yapılmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında, CBS tabanlı sayısal veriler ve UA verileri temel altlık olarak kullanılmış olup, bunların yanında birçok sözel ve istatistiksel veri ile arazi çalışmaları coğrafi perspektifte değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, çalışma sahasının olası taşkın ve heyelanlar karşısındaki etki alanları ve özellikleri ortaya konmuştur. ABSTRACT In this study, flood and landslide risk analysis of Havran river basin have been studied using GIS and Remote Sensing (RS) techniques. Risk analysis which is the first step in risk management have been introduced using different scenarios of floods and landslides in the basin. Because of these, first of all to understand of the basin and to give the studies some guidance physical characteristics of basin have been considered.
