Imaginationland," Terrorism, and the Difference Between Real And
Christopher C. Kirby, PhD. Eastern Washington University Cheney, WA. 99004 “IMAGINATIONLAND,” TERRORISM, AND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REAL AND IMAGINARY CHRISTOPHER C. KIRBY Eastern Washington University “Ladies and gentlemen, I have dire news. Yesterday, at approximately 18:00 hours, terrorists successfully attacked... our imagination”1 “Imaginationland” was an Emmy winning, three-part story which aired as the tenth, eleventh and twelfth episodes of South Park’s eleventh season and was later re-issued as a movie with all of the deleted scenes included. The story begins with the boys waiting in the woods for a leprechaun that Cartman claims to have seen. Kyle, ever the skeptic, has bet ten dollars against sucking Cartman’s balls that leprechauns aren’t real. When the boys finally trap one, to Kyle’s shock and dismay, it cryptically warns of a terrorist attack and disappears. That night at the dinner table Kyle asks his parents where leprechauns come from and why one would visit South Park to warn of a terrorist attack. They chide him for not knowing the difference between real and imaginary and he mutters, “I thought I did.” What ensues is pure South Park genius as we discover that, in fact, nobody seems to know what the difference is. As the story unfolds it’s obvious that no one will be safe, as the episode lampoons the U.S. “war on terror,” the American legal system, Hollywood directors, the media, Christianity, the military, Kurt Russell, and Al Gore’s campaign against climate change [ManBearPig is real… I’m super cereal!] all the while reminding us that imagination is an essential feature of human life. -

South Park is a popular culture artifact that deals with numerous contemporary social and political issues. A narrative analysis of nine episodes of the show finds multiple themes. First, South Park is successful in creating a polysemous political message that allows audiences with varying political ideologies to relate to the program. Second, South Park ’s universal appeal is in recurring populist themes that are anti-hypocrisy, anti-elitism, and anti- authority. Third, the narrative functions to develop these themes and characters, setting, and other elements of the plot are representative of different ideologies. Finally, this study concludes -

SOUTH PARK -TV-SARJA POLIITTISENA KUVANA Sisällönanalyyttinen Ja Kuvatutkimuksellinen Tulkinta Fiktiivisen Ohjelman Sisältämistä Poliittisista Representaatioista

Supernanny is a hybrid form of pedagogical television: Third Way TV—a commercialization of the public service model. In a time when public subsidies and the delivery of services like child care have all but disappeared, the institution of commercial television easily fills the gap. -

Cave of the Winds
Cave of the Winds: History: The Cave of the Winds formed inside the Williams Canyon Lime‐stone. This is Ordovician limestone which was formed about 450 million years ago. This is one of many caves in the area. Original road to the entrance Many caves were open for public tours but the Cave of the Winds remains the only one open The cave was named for the moaning sounds that the wind produces when it blows across the main natural entrance. This entrance is located on the cliff face of Williams Canyon. There is a legend that the Apache tribe migrated through the area, and there is a story that they encountered a cave that they claimed housed the Great Spirit of the Wind. This spirit was known to cause whirlwinds, sand devils, tornadoes and other wind based phenomena. The Ute tribe had a legend that a Chief and his daughter hid in the archway entrance to the cavern to hide from attacking white men. They were later discovered by the daughter’s lover, they had both died of starvation. In 1869, Arthur B. Love who had homesteaded near the cave, entered the main passage but never opened it. Original cave entrance In 1870 General William Palmer named Williams Canyon during a ride, it was initially called Manitou Canyon. The Canyon is named after William Truman Williams, who was General Williams guide. The Canyon just north‐east (Queens Canyon) was named after General Palmers wife, Queenie. The Presidential monument dedication March 1875 – During blasting limestone in the Canyon Mr. Case & Willcutt discovered the opening to the cave. -
