port science is more advanced than ever but S often athletes do not understand its value to their wellbeing. To make modern monitoring, training and recovery methods effective teams need to build trust with their rosters while educating them in good living habits. Above all, players who stand the test of time are curious about their bodies and the science behind training and recovery, they are also willing to go the extra mile and made the choice early in their career to embody good habits.

anaging talent is a major concern for every team, M particularly international soccer teams who meet infrequently.

Roy Hodgson will lead England’s men’s national team into the European Championships this summer having guided the team through a perfect qualifying campaign in which it won 10 games out of 10. The UEFA Euro 2016 tournament in France this summer will be Roy’s third finals tournament as Manager of his homeland in a coaching career that spans four decades.

In addition to coaching some of Europe’s biggest names in FC Internazionale Milano and Liverpool FC, his experience in international competition extends back to the early 1990s when he steered the Switzerland’s men’s national team to the FIFA World Cup finals in the United States in 1994.

Performance met with Roy ahead of Euro 2016 to discuss his efforts to best manage the playing talent at his disposal as England finalize their preparations for the tournament.

“You should be coaching for their benefit, not yours”

Roy’s efforts to span the generation gap and give his players ownership of their development is shaped by his approach to leadership. He says: “It’s always the players you should have in mind. 24
