Community the Life
The Life Community A CHRISTIAN TOWN It is an idea of the life of the first Christians, cultivated nowadays by various Catholic and Christian movements. It is a community of people from various vocations and occupations who decided to live together—devoting themselves to evangelization, as well as liberation and mercy services—undertaking godly initiatives in the contemporary world. The Venerable Servant of God, Fr. Franciszek Blachnicki had a vision of such way of living in the movement within the Catholic Church— Light-Life Movement —which he mentions in his writings. The longing for the creation of the Oasis Evangelizing Life Community has risen in our hearts during the years of the formation of the Light-Life Movement. But it was only the mission of undertaking such initiative by the Archbishop Adam Szal that made this endeavour come into being on the 23rd of June 2016. the Light-Life Movement of przemyska archdiocese /oazaprzemyska www.wspolnotazycia.przemyska.pl At the moment, we have the opportunity to make it come into being in a former retreat house located in the picturesque village of Wrocanka (near Krosno). However, complete renovation is required in order to be fit for the first inhabitants, who are willing to be a part of this venture that we intend to call: the Community of the Merciful Christ the Servant. We have already started the first steps of the renovation—with insufficient material resources, counting entirely on the Divine Providence. We wholeheartedly ask you to pray for this endeavour. Also, anyone who is eager to learn some details about the movement, wants to help, or provide support with material resources or otherwise is more than welcome to contact us. -

Landscapes of Korean and Korean American Biblical Interpretation
BIBLICAL INTERPRETATION AMERICAN AND KOREAN LANDSCAPES OF KOREAN International Voices in Biblical Studies In this first of its kind collection of Korean and Korean American Landscapes of Korean biblical interpretation, essays by established and emerging scholars reflect a range of historical, textual, feminist, sociological, theological, and postcolonial readings. Contributors draw upon ancient contexts and Korean American and even recent events in South Korea to shed light on familiar passages such as King Manasseh read through the Sewol Ferry Tragedy, David and Bathsheba’s narrative as the backdrop to the prohibition against Biblical Interpretation adultery, rereading the virtuous women in Proverbs 31:10–31 through a Korean woman’s experience, visualizing the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and demarcations in Galatians, and introducing the extrabiblical story of Eve and Norea, her daughter, through story (re)telling. This volume of essays introduces Korean and Korean American biblical interpretation to scholars and students interested in both traditional and contemporary contextual interpretations. LETTER to G20, IMF, WORLD BANK, REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT BANKS and NATIONAL GOVERNMENTS
LETTER TO G20, IMF, WORLD BANK, REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT BANKS and NATIONAL GOVERNMENTS We write to call for urgent action to address the global education emergency triggered by Covid-19. With over 1 billion children still out of school because of the lockdown, there is now a real and present danger that the public health crisis will create a COVID generation who lose out on schooling and whose opportunities are permanently damaged. While the more fortunate have had access to alternatives, the world’s poorest children have been locked out of learning, denied internet access, and with the loss of free school meals - once a lifeline for 300 million boys and girls – hunger has grown. An immediate concern, as we bring the lockdown to an end, is the fate of an estimated 30 million children who according to UNESCO may never return to school. For these, the world’s least advantaged children, education is often the only escape from poverty - a route that is in danger of closing. Many of these children are adolescent girls for whom being in school is the best defence against forced marriage and the best hope for a life of expanded opportunity. Many more are young children who risk being forced into exploitative and dangerous labour. And because education is linked to progress in virtually every area of human development – from child survival to maternal health, gender equality, job creation and inclusive economic growth – the education emergency will undermine the prospects for achieving all our 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and potentially set back progress on gender equity by years. -

What's Been Going on at the Pontifical Council for Culture Circular Letter
What’s been going on at the Pontifical Council for Culture Circular Letter, N. 15 (22 June 2017) Watershed: Replenishing Water Values for a Thirsty World A reflection on values and water under the auspices of the Dicastery in partnership with the Club of Rome and others took place in the Vatican, 21-23 March to raise awareness about the need to protect water. A workshop and a public event involved many government institutions and personalities. Continuing in the scientific vein, on 4 April, a high-level conference The Future of Humanity Through the Lens of Medical Science was hosted at the Nobile Collegio Chimico Farmaceutico di Roma with Nobel prize winner Mario Capecchi. Keynote speeches were given by Cardinal Ravasi, Giuseppe Remuzzi and Richard Horton, Editor of The Lancet. [See the Rassegna Stampa] Courtyards of the Gentiles The diffusion of this initiative continues apace and the main recent event, “Small Travellers, Great Ambassadors” was the annual Children’s Train bringing into the Vatican those suffering the effects of the Italian earthquakes who were delighted to meet Pope Francis. It had the theme “Custodians of the Earth” and was presented to the press by Pietro Grasso, President of the Senate and the president of the Italian geophysical and volcanology institute. Also significant were the Courtyards “Arrogance and Fear: dignity of women against violence” and “Laicity and Spirituality” at the Archive of the Quirinale. Many others have taken place, including at parish level. A Scientific Committee is active as is a Board of Governance, while a publication celebrating Pope Benedict’s Regensburg address is in preparation. -

JOHN PAUL H AND CHILDREN'S EDUCATION CHRISTOPHER TOLLEFSEN* Like many other moral and social issues, children's educa- tion can serve as a prism through which to understand the impli- cations of moral, political, and legal theory. Education, like the family, abortion, and embryonic research, capital punishment, euthanasia, and other issues, raises a number of questions, the answers to which are illustrative of a variety of moral, political, religious, and legal standpoints. So, for example, a libertarian, a political liberal, and a per- fectionist natural lawyer will all have something to say about the question of who should provide a child's education, what the content of that education should be, and what mechanisms for the provision of education, such as school vouchers, will or will not be morally and politically permissible. -
The Work of Borghesi Is a Wonderful Contribution to Understanding the Thinking and Person of Pope Francis and to Receiving An
“The work of Borghesi is a wonderful contribution to understanding the thinking and person of Pope Francis and to receiving and implementing his magisterium at a time of change in the Church and the world. It is my sincere hope that bishops, priests, seminary professors, lay theologians, and leaders will profit greatly from this text as they carry out the important work of the New Evangelization.” —Archbishop Christophe Pierre Apostolic Nuncio to the United States “Massimo Borghesi has provided an indispensable resource for all who want to understand why Pope Francis thinks the way he does. Both erudite and scholarly, The Mind of Pope Francis reveals the intellectual and cultural formation of Jorge Mario Bergoglio, with the added benefit of recently recorded and highly reflective interviews with the subject himself. Beautifully translated, this is a vital addition to the anthology of books on this most captivating and consequential religious leader.” — Kerry Alys Robinson Global Ambassador, Leadership Roundtable “Massimo Borghesi’s book is the first real intellectual biography of Jorge Mario Bergoglio and it builds a bridge between the different universes of today’s global Catholicism: different generations of Catholics; different areas of the world; different theological, philosophical, and socio-political backgrounds. This book is an invaluable contribution for the comprehension of this pontificate and potentially a game-changer for the reception of Pope Francis, especially in the English-speaking world.” — Massimo Faggioli Professor of Historical Theology, Villanova University “Pope Francis’ predecessor was an internationally renowned theologian. Perhaps because of that, many have dismissed the Argentinian pope as lacking in intellectual ‘heft.’ Massimo Borghesi’s fascinating and informative study of the intellectual influences on Pope Francis has exploded that canard, demonstrating the intellectual breadth, subtlety and perspicacity of Francis’ thought. -
