Cathy and Kevin are tremendous benefactors to the Little Rock Athletic program, in addition to their outstanding support of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Cathy and Kevin, along with their sons Ted and Will, mean so much to Little Rock Athletics as their passion for our Trojan student-athletes and coaches is second to none. As avid supporters, ambassadors, community leaders and benefactors, Kevin and Cathy have been active figures for both the Little Rock community and Trojan Athletics for over 30 years. Kevin has served on numerous boards and councils, most recently serving a two-year term as chair of the Trojan Advisory Council. Additionally, he serves as the chair of the War Memorial Stadium Commission and vice chair of the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce. Cathy has also been an active member of the Little Rock community, serving on the board of the UAMS Reynolds Institute on Aging. She is a past president of the Little Rock Garden Club and a Stephen Ministry Leader at Second Presbyterian Church. Kevin earned his law degree from UA Little Rock in 1984 and his support and connection to the university and city have continued for over 30 years. He is a senior partner at Friday Eldredge & Clark, a law firm based in Little Rock, and spent the past two seasons as a color analyst along side Ray Tucker on the Trojan men’s basketball radio broadcasts. Together with his wife, Cathy, the two have been instrumental figures in the growth of the Trojan Athletic department in recent years, highlighted by the establishment of the Kevin Crass Heart of a Trojan Award in 2017, given annually to a Little Rock student-athlete based on community service, leadership and dedication to their team. We are thrilled to honor Cathy and Kevin Crass, both today and for many years to come. Our hats are off to a truly SpectacUALR family. LIVE AUCTION ITEMS Vahan Bracelet from Jones & Son! LINE DRIVES THE NATIONAL COLLEGIATE BASEBALL WRITERS NEWSLETTER (Volume 46, No. 2, Apr. 24, 2007) The President’s Message By NCBWA President Michael “Mex” Carey Membership: It’s hard to believe that the baseball season is nearing conference tournament time. The season has been a great one so far and things are sure to get more exciting as we get closer to conference tournaments, the NCAA Regionals and the College World Series. A young Georgetown team in the Nation’s Capitol has struggled with some injuries, but the battle for supremacy in the BIG EAST, like many other conferences across the country, are still up for debate. At the same time, our heartfelt condolences go out to everyone at Virginia Tech after the senseless tragedy that unfolded on the Blacksburg campus recently. I was not the only one, I’m sure, who was horrified by the images and though immediately of our friends who work on the campus. Pete Hughes, one of the great coaches in college baseball who I got to know when he was at Boston College and I worked at St. John’s, said it right after the Hokies’ 11-9 loss to Miami in the team’s first game after the tragedy. “We won before we got to the field today. The scoreboard was insignificant.” The board members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association are in the process of selecting names for yearly awards. Last week, the final list for the Stopper of the Year Award will be announced and right behind that, we will have announcements for All-American nominees.
