Junior C Nathaniel 31 @ Texas A&M-CC* L, 6-7 Sagdalhl went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. APRIL The Bears pounded out 12 hits in Sunday’s home finale, with junior SS Christian Brasher going 3 for 3 with 2 @ Oklahoma State W, 8-4 6 RBI and senior DH Tanner Wiley going 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Fiori scored four times in the win. 5 vs. McNeese State* W, 4-2 • GOVERNOR’S I-40 SHOWDOWN 5 vs. McNeese State* L, 1-2 The Bears and Little Rock Trojans are competing in the first year of the “Governor’s I-40 Showdown” in a 6 vs. McNeese State* W, 5-1 year-long battle between the schools who are just 25 miles apart. They include: pitchers Cody 10 vs. Abilene Christian* W, 4-1 Davenport, Tanner Wiley and Taylor Anders; 1B Tyler Smith; 2B Jay Anderson, and OF Brett D’Amico. Those seniors have combined to win 122 games, and counting, and have made four consecutive trips to 11 vs. Abilene Christian* W, 11-3 the Southland Conference Tournament in Sugar Land, Texas. 12 vs. Abilene Christian* W, 10-4 The graduating seniors _ Davenport and D’Amico _ went through graduation ceremonies with UCA President 14 vs. Little Rock (NLR) L, 1-5 Houston Davis, UCA Provost Dr. Patricia Poulter and UCA athletic director Dr. Brad Teague prior to Friday’s game. 16 @ Lamar* 6:00 Also, senior Conner Williams (year of eligibility left) and junior Christian Brasher graduated on Friday. 17 @ Lamar* 6:00 All six seniors were honored on Sunday, along with their mothers on Mother’s Day at Bear Stadium. 18 @ Lamar* 2:00 • AROUND THE SLC 22-25 SOUTHLAND TOURNAMENT The Bears clinched their eighth straight SLC Tournament appearance with Saturday’s victory. UCA is cur- Constellation Field • Sugar Land, TX rently in a three-way tie for second place with SE Louisiana and Incarnate Word, one game behind Sam Houston State, which the Bears swept in Conway last month. UCA could at least tie its highest seed since they have been eligible for the tournament. UCA was a No. 4 seed in 2017 with a 17-13 league mark. The Bears lost to Sam Houston State in the championship game that season. The 17 conference victories ties the most since joining the league in 2007 (also in . UCA, with a series against last place Lamar remaining this weekend in Beaumont, could finish anywhere from first to seventh in the final regular-season standings. UCA owns the tiebreaker on both SHSU (sweep at home) and SLU (won 2 of 3 in Hammond) but lost 2 of 3 at UIW. UCA was a No. 5 seed last season and went 0-2. The Bears won the SLC Tournament in 2013 as a No. 7 seed with a 16-17 SLC record, winning five straight elimination games after losing their opening game. UCA has reached the championship game three times since 2013. Since 2011, only two No. 1 seeds have won the tournament. Texas State won it in 2011 as the top seed and Sam Houston State won it in 2016 as No. 1. • SLC HONORS True freshman left hander Noah Cameron earned UCA’s first Southland Conference weekly honor on March 18 when he was named the SLC Pitcher of the Week. Cameron, from St. Joseph (Mo.) High School, tossed a complete-game, four-hit shutout against Nicholls State on Saturday, striking out a career-high 13 and walking just 1, while allowing just four singles. Junior lefty Brad Verel earned POW honors on April 8 after earning two victories that week. He got the W in relief against No. 23 Oklahoma State with 4.2 innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out five and walking none.
