Talmudic Church The Talmudic Church is a false Church that consists of Jews who practice the Talmudic religion. The Talmudic Church is often referred to as the synagogue or the synagogue of the Jews. Catholic religion The Catholic religion or Catholicism is the one and only true religion during the New Covenant era. Talmudic religion The Talmudic religion or Talmudism or Talmudic Judaism is a false religion created by Christ-denying Jews to accommodate their denial of Jesus Christ and hence their false interpretations of the Old Testament. It is incorrectly referred to as Judaism because it is actually a corruption and perversion of true Judaism, which ended with the death of Jesus Christ. Catholics Catholics practice the Catholic religion and belong to the Catholic Church and are God‘s only chosen people during the New Covenant era. Talmudic Jews Talmudic Jews practice the Talmudic religion and belong to the Talmudic Church and are not God‘s chosen people. Apostate Jews Apostate Jews are Jews who do not believe in the Catholic Christ. Type of apostate Jews The original meaning of the word ―Jew‖ is an Israelite who belongs to the tribe

Xxxix. 24; Lam. Ii. 14; Hos. Vi. 11; Joel iv. 1 et al.). The vivid rhetoric of Josephus Flavius' Jewish Wars and the absence of sources accessible to Western scholars for the later periods, have combined to create an impression in the minds of many people that the fatal issue of the Roman-Jewish war of 66-70 C.E. did not only result in the destruction of the Temple and of the city of Jerusalem, but brought Jewish life in Palestine to a complete standstill by obliterating what remained of the nation. However, even a cursory glance at the Jewish Wars will show that the struggle cannot have been as destructive as is popularly supposed. As shown on map A, Josephus specifically names as destroyed, apart from Jerusalem, four towns out of nearly forty, three districts (toparchies) out of eleven, and five villages. Even in these cases the destruction cannot have been very thorough. Lydda and Jaffa were burnt down by Cestius (Wars II,18,10 and 19,1), yet Jaffa had to be destroyed again (Wars III.9,3), while Lydda apparently continued to exist and surrendered quietly to Vespasian (ib. IV,18,1). The case of Bethannabris and the other villages in the Jordan Valley is even more instructive; burnt down by Placidus (Wars IV.7,5) they continued to flourish in the Talmudic period and remained Jewish strongholds down to the last days of Byzantine power in Palestine, i.e.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.3828/mlo.v0i0.365 ARTICLE Antisemitism in a Renaissance Dialogue: The Ideological Role of Jews and Judaism in Viaje de Turquía Sizen Yiacoup University of Liverpool, GB [email protected] Despite being widely regarded by commentators as advocating cultural and reli- gious diversity due to its ideological indebtedness to reformist and humanist thought and its largely flattering portrayal of Ottoman Constantinople, the anony- mous sixteenth-century dialogue known as Viaje de Turquía is nevertheless reliant upon antisemitic stereotypes to facilitate the development of its plot and central characters. The analysis presented herein addresses the conspicuous gap in our current understanding of this seminal example of Spanish Renaissance literature by scrutinizing the crucial parallels it draws between two situations presented as broadly analogous: Christ’s persecution at the hands of the Pharisees and his subsequent crucifixion by the Roman imperial authorities, and the hero’s mistreat- ment by Sephardi physicians and the constant threat of execution held over him by the Ottomans. A fundamental aim of this study is therefore to challenge and ultimately alter scholarly perceptions of a text widely acclaimed for its espousal of Renaissance humanist ideals, and, by extension, to underscore the fact that those ideals were by no means unanimously concerned with achieving harmonious coexistence with the Other. Viaje de Turquía is frequently regarded as advocating cross-cultural and religious toleration on the basis of its portrayal of sixteenth-century Constantinople.

In the first part of the thesis, the key characteristics of the Jewish attitude towards history and history writing are analyzed. Throughout the ages of pre-1820, Jews are observed to be consciously lukewarm towards history. The sealing of the Bible and the emergence of an apocalyptic/messianic world view, which are both considered to have taken place around the last centuries of B.C.E., are illustrated as two major causes behind the emergence of this particular Jewish attitude towards history.

    http://biblehub.com/hebrew/4339.htm Like all leading rabbinic scholars of his time, [Joseph] Caro was also a kabbalist, profoundly concerned with kabbalistic doctrine and committed to the kabbalistic ideals of ascetic and spiritual perfection, even though the main focus of his activity as a writer and teacher was in the halakhic field. He belonged to a circle of scholars and ascetics that included the leading kabbalists of the age, many of whom were known to have had extraordinary visionary, auditory, and other mystical experiences. These kabbalistic circles flourished already in the Balkans (Salonika, Adrianople) even before Safed developed into the leading center of kabbalist teaching and piety. Among Caro's acquaintances and associates mention should be made of Moses *Cordovero (who considered Caro his "master"), of Cordovero's teacher, friend, and brother-in-law Solomon *Alkabeẓ (who was also Caro's close friend), and of other leading kabbalists of Safed. In Caro's circle Kabbalah was not merely a matter of mystical theology and theosophical speculation, and several members experienced mystical revelations of diverse kinds (Solomon *Molcho , Joseph Taitaẓak, and others). Caro believed himself to be regularly visited – generally at night – by a heavenly mentor ("maggid") who revealed to him kabbalistic doctrines, as well as rules and predictions for his private ascetic life. This heavenly mentor (see *Maggid ) identified himself as the heavenly archetype of the Mishnah and the Shekhinah, and manifested himself in the form of "automatic speech," i.e., as a voice coming out of Caro's mouth which could be heard by others. The best-known account of this phenomenon is that contained in a letter by Solomon Alkabeẓ, recounting such a "maggidic" manifestation during a *Shavuot-night vigil in Caro's house, probably in Nikopolis.

    A Pilgrimage to a Personality: Doña Gracia Mendes Rifka Cook A Pilgrimage to a Personality: Doña Gracia Mendes Rifka Cook Northwestern University “Rabot banot asu hayil, veat alit al kulana”. [Many women have done worthily, but you surpass them all]. Proverbs 31: 10-31. My purpose, in this paper, is to share with you part of my research relating to an extraordinary Sephardi woman from the Sixteenth Century known as Doña Gracia Mendes. Rather than merely presenting her biography, I intend to describe, in particular, about her remarkable courage and the values we have received from her legacy. Why, you may ask, did I choose this particular title, after considerable reflection and revision? I feel that this title is simple, engaging, and evocative of the "journey" embodied by the life story of this incredible woman, who would otherwise be "lost in the mists of time" if we did not serve as pilgrims seeking to visit her again. I invite you, my readers, to travel with me to her hearth – and her heart. It is my hope that you will be able to follow along with me, in tracing her foosteps, through two separate parts of this paper. First, I will offer a brief description of the political and historical moment in which Doña Gracia first appeared. I will also describe in detail this intriguing female personage, including the various names, by which she is known, as well as her journey from Portugal, the country of her birth, to Turkey, her last port-of-call. Secondly, I will present the one of the responsa which reveals somehow her life and the language the Jews of that period used as their spoken and written language in their everyday life.

Kimine göre iki bin yıldır, kimine göre ise yetmiş yıldan fazladır devam eden bu savaşta yıllardır çok sayıda insan ölmüştür. Bu toprak kavgasının Yahudiler kısmı her zaman Siyonist hareketle ilişkilendirilmiştir. Aslında Siyonizm bu durumun görünen kısmıdır. Oysa arka planda Yahudileri Siyonizm’den önce topraklara göçe yönlendiren, orada yerleşkeler kurduran, Yahudi toplumunu yeniden bir araya toplayarak devlet kurmak isteyen ve daha sonra devletin kuruluşuna destek olan önemli öncü hareket vardır. Bu hareket, dinsel bir olgu olan Mesih inancının Ortodoks Yahudilik tarafından yeniden yorumlanmasının yarattığı sosyal ve siyasal yansımalardır. Yahudiler nerdeyse iki bin yıldır sürgünden dönüp Vaat edilen topraklara yerleşmek, Mabetlerini yeniden yapmak ve Kral Süleyman zamanındaki gibi büyük İsrail Devletini kurmak için zamanı geldiğinde Tanrı’nın göndereceği Davud soyundan Kral Mesih’in gelmesini beklemişlerdir.
