Job title: Senior Talent Manager Direct supervisor: Chief Operations Officer Supervisees: HR Staff Job Description This key role within MM’s leadership team is responsible for a diverse range of tasks. The Senior Talent Manager assists in developing MM’s short- and long-term strategies, initially developing a three-year talent strategy. The role also creates, develops and manages recruitment and retention strategies, ensuring that MM build a diverse, committed and visionary workforce who together create novel solutions that improve food value chains, strengthen communities and help protect the environment. As a starting point, the Senior Talent Manager will be required to gain a full understanding of the vision, values and direction of the MM Movement, sign-up to the MM Manifesto and become an advocates of the MM’s approach to sustainability, natural food and respect for the environment in order to be able to live up to the strategic expectations of the MM Group for this role and to craft induction packs and KPI monitoring of all MM staff. A clear understanding of the entrepreneurial aspects of each role to be recruited by the Senior Talent Manager will also be required for this position. Ultimately, the job of the Senior Talent Manager is to ensure that the MM group is adequately staffed with suitable, committed staff and that employees are engaged, well-trained and productive so they can provide excellent customer service and contribute to an ambitious growth plan. The main responsibilities of the Senior Talent Manager include: Managerial Responsibilities • Supervise and direct HR Team in their duties • Mentor, develop and appraise all supervisees • Manage the recruitment and training process for new HR staff Strategic and Developmental Responsibilities • Advise the Board of Directors on talent acquisition and retention strategies • Develop and manage MM group’s talent strategy, policies and procedures • Implement plans to ensure MM meets its strategic growth targets • Support the Board in commercial decision making • Support the Board in furthering MM’s values and vision across all aspects of the company • Oversee data collection and analysis and prepare quarterly reports for the Board Talent Acquisition Responsibilities • Create and manage hiring plans for head office, front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house staff • Lead end-to-end recruitment, using a range of tools to enable cost efficiency and reduce time to hire where possible • Design and implement strategies to promote the recruitment of a diverse workforce • Design and run the onboarding process to ensure all new employees are quickly inducted into the MM culture are able to start their roles quickly and effectively • Oversee preparation of job offers and employment contracts • Track key recruiting metrics, such as turnover rates, sources of hire, training progress, etc. • Facilitate and coordinate work experience, internship and apprenticeship requests Human Resources Responsibilities • Manage day-to-day employee relations, ensuring compliance in all employee related matters • Oversee employee attendance and working schedules including breaks, overtime and paid time off • Develop and oversee performance management processes (including appraisals) to support a high performing culture across the MM Group • Develop and oversee a learning and development plan across the MM Group to ensure all staff are learning, growing, and staying current with knowledge and advancements in their respective areas • Act as system administrator for all HR software Reward and Compensation Responsibilities • Lead on designing, implementing and managing compensation and benefit packages to ensure retention, while managing employment-related overheads • Act as system administrator for all payroll software • Manage and maintain payroll data, including overtime, holidays and shifts, using HR platforms and/or other suitable platforms as necessary • Liaise with the payroll handlers supplying periodic data and optimising the payroll process Health and Safety Responsibilities • Ensure all staff (including front-of-the-house, back-of-the-house and administrative) are properly trained in and comply with applicable health and safety regulations • Stay up to date with industry standards and applicable health and safety law and regulations to ensure compliance This role involves occasional travel within the UK and abroad to manage new and existing sites across the MM Group. Additionally, given the nature of the hospitality industry, some evening and weekend work is required. Required Qualities • Previous experience as senior HR manager (or similar), preferably with exposure to both hospitality and service industries • Proven track record of HR management and growth in a fast-paced environment • Previous hands-on experience with recruiting for junior, senior, director and seasonal full- time and part-time roles • Knowledge of applicable employment regulatory frameworks • Successful studies at degree level in a related field (Human Resources, Organisational Psychology or similar) or equivalent experience/training • Strong command of English (either native speaker or native-level fluency) • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to express complex ideas in everyday language, including to non-native English speakers • Confident communicator and presenter, comfortable with presenting ideas and holding your own when challenged by senior leadership • Excellent people skills and a genuine empathy for others • Ability to prioritise a complex workload with a busy office • Creative problem-solver, able to analyse data as well as brainstorm, evaluate and test novel, scalable solutions • A whole heap of enthusiasm for what Mercato Metropolitano is doing and an unbridled energy for finding ways to promote MM’s concepts, ideas and movements Desired Qualities • Previous experience in health and safety, particularly in the food & beverage/hospitality industries • Experience scaling the people function in a fast-growing early stage company, ideally within food & beverage/hospitality and ideally during the expansion from 50 to 200+ employees • Previous experience working with founders, start-ups and/or senior stakeholders • Interest and understanding of product traceability and provenance • Previous personal experience (perhaps very early in your career) working in food & beverage/hospitality as front-of-house or back-of-house • Experience working with work experience, internship, apprenticeship and/or graduate programmes Benefits • Scope to take ownership of Mercato Metropolitano’s talent strategy and implementation, while growing the team, with a view to move to a Director-level role on a fast-track basis (with a considerable remuneration adjustment) • Initial salary ranging from £50,000 to £75,000 per annum, depending on experience (health and safety training or experience is required for the higher end of the range) • Additional benefits including personal health insurance, life assurance, Nest pension, discretionary end-of-year bonus, travel loan scheme, 33 days holiday including bank holidays and a generous staff discount • For employees who are especially enthusiastic about the company and growing with the MM Group long-term, there is a possibility to participate in a share incentive plan .
