World History Semester 11 Causes of WWII Book Project Project Based Learning

Overview: The students will create a children’s book or a comic book / graphic novel over one, many, or all of the causes of WWII. The students will use the internet to look up pictures to include in their book as well as conduct research over the causes of WWII. At the culmination of the project, each student will read his or her book to the class. The last page of the book needs to be 1 page explanation of the student’s opinion of what the main cause of WWII was and why they feel that way.

Causes of WWII Project: Causes of WWII Children’s book / comic book / graphic novel

Requirements: 1. Front Cover/Introduction 2. at least 5 pages of content (not including the front / back cover, the timeline, or the 1 page answer) 3. Each page of the story must include words AND pictures 4. Timeline of the most important events leading up to WWII 5. The student’s opinion as to what the main cause of WWII was and why. 6. Back Cover

Explanation of Requirements Front Cover: (Outside) • Front of book • Use color • Use card stock of heavier paper (if using paper, N/A for the computer) • Picture(s) • Book Title • Date • Author’s first and last name (this would be you) Back Cover: (Inside) • About the author (a small autobiography of you) • Use color and illustrations/pictures/clipart (Outside) • Decorate with color and illustrations Other Important Information General Guidelines: • Include at least one picture, graphic, or illustration on each page. • Each page must include text • Each page must be numbered on the bottom, either in the center or on the outside corner. The covers are the only exceptions, and do not need to be labeled or numbered. • There should be no blank pages anywhere in your book. You can do extra pages to fill up blank space. • Everything must be typed in black ink. No handwriting! • Color copies and pretty papers are nice, but not required!

Technology Guidelines: • No pages set to “landscape” orientation—no sideways pages. • Text of all pages should be in the same font (, Geneva, Times, , or are accepted) • Use any readable font for titles. No ≺ii allowed! • All pages should be size 8.5X11.

Writing Guidelines: • We will be using MLA style guidelines for research and documentation. • Use spell check to get rid of errors, but make sure you edit after running it. Spell check can sometimes create new and unusual errors of its own!

Story • Research and write a brief story related to the causes of WWII • The story must be in the format of a Children’s story or a comic book (examples will be shown). • Each page must have text and a relevant picture taken from the internet • The story must be simple enough for a child to understand • Think of Dr. Seuss, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, etc.

Question (1 page) • This should be a 1 page, double spaced answer to the following question: o What do you feel the main cause of WWII was? Why do you feel this way? Backup your opinion with fact. o The answer should not only include the student’s opinion, but also facts to back up his or her stance.
