Gulf English School organises Fitness at The Farm for third consecutive year

he Gulf English School (GES) recently organised ‘Fitness at The Farm’, whereby pupils visit Sheikh Faisal’s Farm for a full day of sport, fitness and enrichment activities. This year’s event included: 1km, 3km and 5km Trun; Ultimate Frisbee, football, volleyball, basketball, horse riding, ‘Paint the Pony’, taekwondo, Boxercise, Zumbatomics, Aspire MSSD training, rounders, media trail and a visit to Sheikh Faisal’s museum. Being held for three consecutive years now, this event is a chance for stu- dents to find new ways to be active while enjoying the scenery, enriching their academic experience, challenging themselves physically and socialising with their peers in a safe and healthy environment. “We extend our thanks to Sheikh Faisal and Sheikha Maha for making this event possible; it truly does provide our pupils with a beneficial and memora- ble experience,” said Rebecca Cruickshank, PE Faculty Coordinator for GES Pri- mary and Secondary Schools. “All in all, we had three days of red cheeks, sweaty brows and smiling faces. The children made a useful contribution to their health and wellness and quite simply had a great time with their friends,” she added. On day one, the Senior Girls and Y6 Girls joined together for their event. More girls than ever attempted the 3km run, with very many also going on to run the new 5km track. The Prep’ Girls took on the teachers at basketball and ran them ragged. They demonstrated that they are a force to be reckoned with and just why they medalled in this year’s SOP finals. As in previous years, the Boxercsie and Zumbatomics classes proved to be highly popular and our thanks go to Zara for attending again this year. The girls engaged proactively in the activities on offer and raved about the beautiful scenery. Their positive atti- tude to health and fitness was very encouraging. On the second day, Y4 and Y5 pupils enjoyed the Junior Day. This was their first time to attend Fitness at the Farm and they fully embraced the provisions and the intention of the day. The students kept themselves active for the entire day, pushing their teachers to get them to the many sporting activities on offer. They equally enjoyed their time in Sheikh Faisal’s Museum and many kept going around the farm trails right up until the very last minute. Noble International School celebrates Mother’s Day

he students of Noble Interna- tional School celebrated the Mother’s Day with passion and Tzeal within the school premises. The drawing competition was also held on the topic “MOTHER” in which a band of students participated and exhibited their talent, lust, fondness and respect towards their mother. The Students were also gifted with Mother’s day greeting cards to be giv- en to their mother’s as a token of es- teem love, honour, dignity and com- passion. 04 | SUNDAY 8 MAY 2016 COVER STORY Celebrating creative achievements

empek is the name of a well known Indonesian dish. It originated in South Sumatera in the 16th century. PIt is a savory fishcake delicacy, usu- ally served with yellow noodles and a dark, rich sweet and sour sauce. Last weekend, the Indonesian commu- nity held a pempek cook-off in MIA Park. The event was officiated by Andi Una Side- habi, spouse of the Indonesian Ambassa- dor to Qatar. The event was held to com- memorate the 40 years of Qatar-Indonesia Diplomatic relations. Ambassador Sidehabi, in his written speech, stressed the need for a sense of unity among Indonesian citizens under the Indonesian community organisation in Qa- tar namely PERMIQA which is currently led by Edwin Kurniawan. The event was organised by Qatar Pale- mbang Community (Komunitas Palembang Qatar / KOMPAQ). Edi Ujang, the chairman of KOMPAQ, stated that true to its namesake, KOMPAQ’s members came to Qatar from Southern Su- matra, home of Pempek. While they work in oil and gas sector as well as in other sec- tors such as telecommunications, banking and finance, embassies and others they never lose the ties that binds them togeth- er with their hometown. KOMPAQ, established in 2009, has played an important role in enhancing the relationship among citizens in Qatar through participation in the activities of the Indonesian community in Qatar, especially the promotion of social and cultural events and other events in Doha. Ambassador Si- dehabi also urged the Indonesian diaspo- ras to demonstrate good work ethics and follow the rule and regulation in their daily life in Qatar.

A number of Doha Bank staff volun- teers teamed up to plant trees and install the automatic irrigation sys- tem, to demonstrate Doha Bank’s support for the recent Earth Day, which was celebrated on April 22 around the world to promote the cause of environmental protection. Irrigation systems are vital for the healthy maintenance of gar- dens in Qatar especially due to the warm weather — with the systems having proved an estimated 75 percent to 90 percent reduction in water wastage over traditional wa- tering methods.
