All-Out War has begun and new battles lines are drawn in this post apocalyptic world. Last year, Rick Grimes and his group of survivors were confronted with their deadliest challenge yet and the introduction of Negan and the Saviours broke our group. Feeling powerless under Negan’s rules and demands, Rick advocated the group play along. But seeing that Negan couldn’t be reasoned with, Rick began rallying together other communities affected by the Saviours. And with the support of the Hilltop and Kingdom, they finally have enough firepower to contest them. This year, Rick brings “All Out War” to Negan and his forces. The Saviours are larger, better equipped, and ruthless - but Rick and the unified communities are fighting for the promise of a brighter future. The battle lines are drawn as they launch into a kinetic, action-packed offensive. Up until now, survival has been the focus of Rick and our group, but it’s not enough. They have to fight to take back their freedom so that they can live. So that they can rebuild. As with any battle, there will be losses. Casualties. But with Rick leading the Alexandrian forces, Maggie leading the Hilltop, and King Ezekiel leading the Kingdom - Negan and the Saviours’ grip on this world may finally be coming to an end. 12 / DRAMA 13 / DRAMA 10 x 60 ALSO AVAILABLE: Genius 1: Einstein: 10 x 60 Showrunner, Executive Producer, Cast Writer & Director Antonio Banderas (The Skin I’m In, Shrek) Kenneth Biller Alex Rich (True Detective, Glow) (Perception, Genius: Einstein) Clémence Poésy (The Tunnel, Final Portrait) Samantha Colley (Victoria, Genius: Einstein) An Imagine Entertainment and Fox 21 Executive Producers Poppy Delevingne (Kingsman: The Golden Television Studios Production Brian Grazer (Frost/Nixon) Circle, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) for National Geographic Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) T.R. Following the success of Genius: Einstein, National Geographic’s first fully scripted drama, this wonderful anthology series returns, detailing the life and loves of the Spanish artistic genius Pablo Picasso – as well as highlighting his significant and wide-ranging contribution to modern art. Picasso is brought to life by Hollywood legend Antonio Banderas (The Legend of Zorro). Joining him as the younger Picasso, who rejects academic study and joins a circle of young bohemian artists and writers struggling to make it in early 20th century Spain and France, is Alex Rich (True Detective). The series follows the tumultuous marriages, passionate affairs and ever-shifting political and personal alliances that sparked Picasso’s creative drive and pushed his boundaries of artistic expression, leading to his worldwide renown as a genius. It explores the Spanish expatriate’s devotion to his craft and we also learn of his relationships with the other well-known personalities that crossed his path, including Coco Chanel, Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall and Jean Cocteau. Filmed in locations throughout Europe, including numerous places where Picasso lived and worked, Genius: Picasso features a stellar cast, including Samantha Colley and Johnny Flynn who return from Genius: Einstein in new roles. 14 / DRAMA 15 / DRAMA 10 x 60 ALSO AVAILABLE Genius 2: Picasso: 10 x 60 “Sassy and whip-smart” Developed and Written by The Guardian Kenneth Biller (Perception) Noah Pink (This is Your Death) “A skillfully acted and richly detailed historical show” Music Score by An Imagine Entertainment New York Times Hans Zimmer (Dunkirk, Gladiator) and Fox 21 Television Studios Production Nominated for 10 Emmy awards, including for National Geographic Executive Producers Best Actor (Geoffrey Rush), Best Director Brian Grazer (Frost/Nixon) Genre: Drama, Biography (Ron Howard) and Outstanding Limited Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) Series. Fiercely independent, innately brilliant, eternally curious, Einstein changed the way we view the universe. And this much-acclaimed new drama series will change the way we view this legendary physicist and international icon. From his early failures and achievements in the world of academics, to his emotionally fraught search for love and human connection, Genius paints a portrait of the real Albert Einstein in all his complexity. Based on the book, Einstein: His Life and Universe, by Walter Isaacson, the series charts his humble origins and struggle as a rebellious young thinker striving to be recognised by the academic establishment. It follows his escape to America from Nazi Germany, his two marriages, numerous affairs and finally, his acceptance by his peers and celebrity status following the disclosure of the theory of relativity. Produced by Academy Award®-winners Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, and with a standout international cast, Genius: Einstein is a beautifully produced, sweeping historical biography that grips from its opening scenes, right up to its final episode. 16 / DRAMA 17 / DRAMA SEASON 1: 8 x 60 Showrunner/Co-Creator/Writer/Director Cast Matthew Parkhill (Rogue) Mark Strong (Kingsman: The Golden Circle) Joe Dempsie (Game of Thrones) Commissioned by Writers Karima McAdams (Fearless) Fox Original Productions Simon Maxwell, Co-creator Lyne Renée (Madam Secretary) (American Odyssey) Produced by Endor Productions Anastasia Griffith (Damages) Steve Thompson (Sherlock) Genre: Espionage/Conspiracy Thriller Alistair Petrie (Rogue One) Director Khalid Laith (Word War Z) Robert Connolly (The Slap) Mark Holden (Kingsman: The Golden Circle) Donald Sage Mackay (Elementary) Producers Rachel Shelley (The L Word) Tom Nash (Esio Trot) Kingsley Ben Adir (The Commuter) Khadija Alami (Homeland, The Night Manager) Executive Producers Hilary Bevan Jones (State of Play) Alan Greenspan (Donnie Brasco, Fever Pitch) Simon Maxwell (American Odyssey) Matthew Parkhill (Rogue) Helen Flint (Indian Summers) Deep State Who’s in Control? A former spy embarks on one last - and intensely personal – journey. Deep State is a brilliant new international espionage thriller starring Mark Strong as Max Easton, an ex- spy brought back into the field to avenge the death of his son (who had followed in his footsteps), only to find himself at the heart of a covert intelligence war and a conspiracy to profit from the spread of chaos throughout the Middle East. The story unfolds across the UK, US, Iran, Lebanon and France and contains a profound political dimension that asks questions about the connection between the representatives of the people and the big industries that profit from global conflicts. It’s a story of supremely high stakes, a conspiracy that could topple governments and along the way includes hostage rescues, shoot-outs and manhunts. However, at its core, Deep State is an emotional drama about a family ‘in extremis’ in which intimate, intense personal relationships are pitted against an epic backdrop.

© Copyright 2015 Alexander James Morrow i Laboring for the Day: The Pacific Coast and the Casual Labor Economy, 1919-1933 Alexander James Morrow A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy University of Washington 2015 Reading Committee: James N. Gregory, Chair Moon-Ho Jung Ileana Rodriguez Silva Program Authorized to Offer Degree: Department of History ii University of Washington Abstract Laboring for the Day: The Pacific Coast and the Casual Labor Economy, 1919-1933 Alexander James Morrow Chair of the Supervisory Committee: Professor James Gregory Department of History This dissertation explores the economic and cultural (re)definition of labor and laborers. It traces the growing reliance upon contingent work as the foundation for industrial capitalism along the Pacific Coast; the shaping of urban space according to the demands of workers and capital; the formation of a working class subject through the discourse and social practices of both laborers and intellectuals; and workers’ struggles to improve their circumstances in the face of coercive and onerous conditions. Woven together, these strands reveal the consequences of a regional economy built upon contingent and migratory forms of labor. This workforce was hardly new to the American West, but the Pacific Coast’s reliance upon contingent labor reached its apogee after World War I, drawing hundreds of thousands of young men through far flung circuits of migration that stretched across the Pacific and into Latin America, transforming its largest urban centers and working class demography in the process. The presence of this substantial workforce (itinerant, unattached, and racially heterogeneous) was out step with the expectations of the modern American worker (stable, married, and white), and became the warrant for social investigators, employers, the state, and other workers to sharpen the lines of solidarity and exclusion.

  • The Art of the Episode - Beginning of the Fifth Act
The art of the episode - beginning of the fifth act. The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones has begun. As a reminder: Dramaturgically speaking, this series is rather a long epic feature film and follows the corresponding rules. This structural structure is complemented by a historical drama in the tradition of Shakespeare. Therefore, Game of Thrones doesn't follow the rules of a series in which each episode must have a dramatic climax on the vertical narrative level. With this series of weekly comments on this series I complete the book "Game of Thrones sehen", published in 2017. With this eighth season the fifth act begins. Accordingly, the art of the first episode of this last season is not only to recall important aspects of the previous action after the long production and waiting period, but also to organize the necessary explicit action for the decisive fifth act. References to previous events must be included, especially to those of the first act, in this case the first and second season, which corresponds to the dramaturgical requirements of a last act of a feature film. This referential level is already established in the first scene when we observe a boy (Felix Jamieson) walking through the crowd to climb a tree to better observe the approaching troops. This scene reflects on the one hand the scene from the first season, in which Bran spotted the approaching caravan of King Robert from the lookout at Winterfell Castle. The boy's about the same age as Bran was in the first season.
