I need to buy a dress, hire a photographer, and rent a venue. I need to decide my guest list, send invitations, and hire a caterer. I need to rent dishes and silver ware. I want to order dress for my bridesmaids. I want to hire a make-up artists and hair stylist. I also need to arrange for any other details such as decorations, a wedding cake, rehearsal dinner, and officiant. Background Information Amir Ghanadan asked me to marry him on September 3, 2017. We plan to get married on January 26, 2019. We looked at Midtown Bethesda North Condos (Roof Top Party room) and we liked it as the venue. I want my dress to be like a button front, an illusion V-neckline with lace short sleeves, a lace and crepe skirt, and a ball gown silhouette. I want to have a wonderful dress. My photographer package contains of taking photos, making a video clip, and editing. In order to make our wedding wonderful, I want to decorate the place with flowers and candles. Research Plan and Preliminary Research Sample Source The first step for buying my dress will be looking at lots of websites to find one that is beautiful and offer a reasonable price at the same time. The best deal which I will find is from the David’s Bridal website. I found the dress in the sale section of the (David’s Bridal website). Moreover, I suggest everyone looking to stay at a reasonable price take a look at David’s Bridal Camellia website first, before wasting time trying to shop at pricy stores. The second step toward completing my checklist will be booking a great venue. Moreover, I will contact all the hotels in the Maryland area to get the best deal since my fiancé and I are both students and we are using our savings to pay for our big day. Moreover, I will contact (Hotel Hilton located at Gaithersburg) to receive a price quote on their reception venues. With that said, if I will not able to find a reasonable deal for about two months in advance, my life will be complicated and I will be at a stage where we will think about not being able to hold our wedding in a timely manner. For the next two months, I will most likely be feeling very anxious and overwhelmed. On the other hand, another plan for renting a venue will be asking my friend to do me a favor. My friend was told that she may be able to rent out a party room located in their building for her close friends and family. Kindly, I will ask her to contact the building manager in order to look at our option to rent the place for January 26,2019. This will be like a dream come true for me since we will be able to save a lot of money by renting a great party room. I will be crying out of happiness for achieving my greatest steps on my checklist. At this time, we will most likely be able to overcome our obstacles with financial difficulties, and venue renting. Financial difficulties are one of our main issues, and not solving it may cause our wedding to be postponed. In addition to that, postponing the wedding will not look good to our family and friends who planned on our big day in advance. For our wedding, we would like to have special photos by a professional photographer (Butterfly Photography Company). The idea of having the above-named photography company taking our photo shoots come from the fact that I have met Butterfly’s photography team at a friend’s wedding. I will contact them to ask for a special package for my wedding since I want to Camellia keep my photos and videos for the rest of my life. Also, when I refer to my photos in future, I hope that it will remind me of my memorable night. For my wedding, I will need to buy a wedding ring band to match with my engagement ring. I interviewed a jewelry expert in order to get some advice for buying a band. In addition to that, I interviewed wedding ring expert of De Beers, he said, “For generations wedding rings have symbolized never-ending passion and a timeless devotion to another person. Our diamond wedding rings harness this timeless message and enhance it with hand-chosen diamonds with peerlessly beautiful sparkle. All of our wedding rings for women and men are expertly crafted, incorporating beautiful diamond accents and sparkling solitaires in a range of unique designs. Our diamond wedding rings represent the start of your lives together and the happiness that comes with saying ‘I do’” (De Beers Jewelry expert, July 19,2018). This interview encouraged me to pick a ring band, which for many years will remind me of the day I said “Yes” to my future husband. On the other hand, for decorating our party room, I will talk to a professional decorator to make the place more beautiful. In addition to that, I was introduced to (Sarah Khan Event Styling), an amazing team who will decorate our place. The fact is that, the party room itself looks amazing, but there should be some decorations that represent the different wedding styles in our party. I interviewed the owner of this company (Sarah Khan, June 1, 2018) in order to know her better and trust her to decorate our party room. She said, “I love to see my clients’ reactions to their event reveal, and when they say, ‘it’s much more than I ever imagined’, my job is done.” Camellia Her words encouraged me to hire her as our decorator because she truly loves her work, and her ideas represent my Iranian culture to the guests because Iranian wedding styles are very different from other cultures. Equally importantly, I work as a make-up artist as my side job. Sometimes, I do my friend’s and family’s make up for their special events. This side job makes me so cheerful, but I will not be able to do my own make up for my wedding because I will have so much stress on that day. Additionally, I decided to ask one of the most popular Persian make-up artists (Sara Vaziri) among my friends to do my make-up and hair. Furthermore, I made an appointment with her to have an interview and talk with her. She said, “she guarantees her clients excellent stylists, quality services, the greatest value for the price, and the finest selection of hair care products. She assures my complete satisfaction, and she will explain any additional charges in advance or the additional charge is free”. (Sarah Vaziri, May 24, 2018). By the same token, the night when I came back from her salon, I told my future husband that she will be the one who will do my make up because of her honesty, wonderful background, and beautiful words. Furthermore, all I need to do is to focus on renting chairs and silverware, and plan the rest of the checklist for future. Options for Actions It is important to make a budget that an individual is able to commit to. There are some ways that can be highlighted in order to make the cost estimate for a wedding. My future husband and I decided to spend about $15000 for our wedding expenses. We saved our monthly income plus contribution from our family members. In addition to that, we try to remember each Camellia individual goal for our wedding in order to make a cost estimation. Equally important, I envisioned our wedding in order to get an idea of our cost estimation. Likewise, I will need to estimate the cost by myself. In addition to that, it will most likely take me one week in order to estimate the costs. Moreover, I will need to purchase different supplies in order to decorate my bouquet and center piece flowers for guests’ tables. In like manner, a nice wedding dress would cost around $1000. Likewise, the price of the photography package surprised everyone. The Butterfly Photography Company wedding packages are all inclusive and include a large custom wedding album and an engagement album, an engagement photo shoot up to 3 hours, a flash drive of all images, 2 photographers, 8 hours of coverage, wedding enlargement, a wedding surprise item, a web gallery with up to 3 months’ access for family and friends, and a social media post within 14 days of the event. The web gallery will be ready within 3 weeks of the wedding. Furthermore, as I asked from the owner of the Butterfly Photography Company, the photography package which is mentioned above is $3000. Also, if I hire and additional videographer for 2 cameras and one camera man for the ceremony and reception footage is $2000 for 6 hours of coverage. If I add 8 hours, it will be an extra $500 Including a 10-minute highlight. Overall, for all the expenses that may vary, my future husband and I estimate to spend about $9500, but we will keep our $15000 saving box for emergency funds. Preliminary Conclusion Celebrating our wedding in the next six months will fulfill our dreams and make a memorable night.

Al-Zubaidi Baghdad University Baghdad, Iraq Wedding Invitation Genre: Communicating Sociocultural Identities of Iraqi Society ABSTRACT The present study examined the genre of Iraqi wedding invitation cards (WICs) in terms of its textual and visual components, and the impact of the social norms and assumptions on the articulation of these components. Drawing upon three analytic tools, namely, genre analysis proposed by Swales (1990) and Bhatia (2004), semiotic analysis suggested by Kress and Van Leeuwen (2001), and critical discourse analysis advocated by Fairclough (2010), a sample of 250 WICs was selected to be considered for analysis. Corpus analysis showed that Iraqi WICs varied in terms of their non-linguistic features like printed forms, colors, layouts, calligraphy, graphics, and paper materials. On the other hand, the underlying schematic organization of Iraqi WICs was built around seven component moves. Furthermore, Islamic religious beliefs and Iraqi socio-cultural system were clearly encoded in these wedding invitation texts affecting their organization structure.     Iranian Marriage Ceremony Summary The Iranian wedding ceremony like many other rituals in the country goes back to the ancient Zoroastrian traditions. Currently, there are two stages to a marriage. The first is called aghd meaning knot. This involves the legal process; both parties and their guardians sign the marriage document and a financial contract mahr (sometimes ceremonial), for the benefit of the bride. The second stage of the marriage, arousi, includes the actual feasts and the celebration, bride in Persian is also called arous. The ceremony takes place in a specially decorated room with flowers and a beautiful and elaborately decorated spread (sofreh aghd) and it traditionally faced the direction of the sunrise and took place before sunset, since light was sacred for the ancient Iranians. This part of the ceremony consists of preliminary blessings, questions to the witnesses, guardians and the marrying couple and finally the ceremony is solemnized by reciting verses from holy books and the signing of the marriage document. First, the bridegroom is asked if he wishes to enter into the marriage contract. After he says yes, then the bride is asked the same question. However, the bride remains silent. The question is repeated three times then, she says yes. To make the bridegroom wait for the bride’s answer is to signify that it is the husband who seeks the wife. During the service female relatives of the couple hold a fine long scarf or other delicate fabrics like silk over the couple’s head. Eslami (Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture, College of Education and Human Development Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA) Hamid Allami (English Department, Yazd University, Yazd, Iran) Abstract Wedding invitations (WIs), as a uniquely socially and culturally constructed genre, provide a distinct opportunity to compare the sociocultural values of different speech communities as reflected in the textual content and organization of the different moves. Students can be exposed to this genre and its different moves using a genre-based pedagogy. Genre-based pedagogy can be used to provide the learners with an opportunity to study well-known genres in their first (L1) and second language (L2) and to be able to observe the common and distinctive moves from a cross-cultural, cross-linguistic perspective. This study was carried out to investigate the wedding invitations in American and Iranian societies through two complementary approaches: genre analysis and critical discourse analysis (CDA). One hundred wedding invitation (WI) cards (50 from each society) were collected and analyzed comparatively. The findings from the genre analysis showed that the WIs of the two speech communities enjoyed both similarities and differences in their generic moves. Results of CDA indicated that traditional orientation, religious affiliation, masculine power and educational status were the most influential factors affecting WIs in both societies but the intensity of the effect of these factors were not similar in the two speech communities.

    AN ARTISTIC ANALYSIS OF QÓJÓR MARRIAGE CONTRACTS BY LEILA ALHAGH A dissertation submitted in fulfilment of the requirement for the degree of Master of Arts in Islamic and Other Civilizations International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization International Islamic University Malaysia AUGUST 2014 ABSTRACT This research has investigated the decoration of one hundred marriage certificates of the QÉjÉr period. The major aspects of this study were related to the study of layouts, motifs and designs, color, calligraphy and symbolism embedded in motifs and colors. Systematic library search in order to investigate the social and historical pretexts of wording and artwork of the studied documents has been undertaken. Among various visited sites was the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia that owns five marriage certificates of the QÉjÉr era. The applied artistic research of this work, regarding the scrutinizing the decorative artworks, included the preparation of line drawings for layouts, motifs and actual color palettes. One of the important goals in this research was to identify any possible exclusively used layout, motif, or color in any of the studied documents. Exploring any correlation between the style of illumination and artwork of these documents and their original owner’s social class was another goal of this research. Were there any symbolic concepts behind the motifs and colors? Some of the important results of this study can be summarized as follows: Layouts of the studied marriage contracts, obeyed the traditional arrangement of the art of the book, except for 5 of them that belonged to converted Jewish families.
