BROWER2 and SÖREN NYLIN1 1Department of Zoology, Stockholm University, S-106 91 Stockholm, Sweden 2Department of Zoology, Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon 97331–2907, USA Received 10 January 2004; accepted for publication 12 November 2004 We infer for the first time the phylogenetic relationships of genera and tribes in the ecologically and evolutionarily well-studied subfamily Nymphalinae using DNA sequence data from three genes: 1450 bp of cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) (in the mitochondrial genome), 1077 bp of elongation factor 1-alpha (EF1-a) and 400–403 bp of wing- less (both in the nuclear genome). We explore the influence of each gene region on the support given to each node of the most parsimonious tree derived from a combined analysis of all three genes using Partitioned Bremer Support. We also explore the influence of assuming equal weights for all characters in the combined analysis by investigating the stability of clades to different transition/transversion weighting schemes. A permeability of this interfece is necessary in an environment of colaborative actors at both sides of the interface. Worse permeability or even impermeability of the interface can be asked between antagonistic enemies. Generally, a lot of various interfaces have “smash / fuzzy/ defocusing” contours but their exact definition is helpful for active and passive protection of living objects in the nature. But, the interfaces between potential enemies ask a merge of camouflage systems & processes implementing on special created interface. So, this interface needs a nature / human made camouflage mediator. This mediator must operationally mediate virtual image in real time/ space/ environment. Cybernetic camouflage implementing virtual image operating in visible range of electromagnetic vave spectrum uses data projectors for projection of image on screen interface. From above fundamental principles are created platforms of cybernetic camouflage of Czech University of Defence R&D Grant solution of National Defence Research. It deals grant Project with acronym ADAPTIV - Draft and assertion new adaptive technology for simulation and camouflage in operational environment armed forces of Czech Republic and for infrastructure protection. The promotion of flagship species is one way to generate interest in invertebrate conservation. Butterflies are frequently labeled invertebrate flag- ships, but clear definitions of the conservation actions they are meant to catalyze, and empirical assessments of their popularity amongst non-Western audiences are lacking. To improve the use of invertebrate flagships, we examine how butterflies compare with other taxa in terms of popularity. We then identify characteristics of individual species that are appealing and explore whether these may be used to derive a set of guidelines for selecting invertebrate flagships. We conducted questionnaire-based surveys amongst two target audiences: rural residents (n = 255) and tourists (n = 105) in northeast India. Inverte- brates that were aesthetically appealing, or those that provided material benefits or eco- logical services were liked. Butterflies were the most popular group for both audiences, followed by dragonflies, honeybees and earthworms. CoP13 Prop. 27 CONSIDERATION OF PROPOSALS FOR AMENDMENT OF APPENDICES I AND II A. Proposal Inclusion of Uroplatus spp. in Appendix II. The most recent update of the species list applicable to the genus Uroplatus (Duméril, 1805) is Raxworthy’s from 2003, published in The natural history of Madagascar by Goodman and Benstead, University of Chicago Press. This update recognized 10 species within the genus Uroplatus, commonly known by its vernacular name of leaf-tailed gecko. These are: U. alluaudi Mocquard, 1894; U. ebenaui Boettger, 1879; U. fimbriatus Schneider, 1797; U. guentheri Mocquard, 1908; U. henkeli Böhme and Ibish, 1990; U. lineatus Duméril and Bibron, 1836; U. malama Nussbaum and Raxworthy, 1995; U. malahelo Nussbaum and Raxworthy, 1994; U. phantasticus Boulenger, 1888 and U. sikorae Boettger, 1913. However, a new species was described in the same year in an issue of Salamandra. This is Uroplatus pietschmanni, identified by Böhle and Schönecker (2003). This species, which closely resembles U. sikorae, was for a long time confused with it and indeed continues to be so. Since this confusion could lead to problems relating not only to population and range limits, but also to how the quantity traded is divided up, and in the absence of proper verification and review on the ground, we take the view that it is preferable to leave it out of consideration for the present. Furthermore, several other forms are under study, and these may constitute new species. Leaf-tailed geckos are among the reptiles which are traded internationally to differing extents, depending on the species concerned. The export data for 2001, 2002 and 2003 supplied by the Ministry of Water and Forests (MEF) make this point very clearly (see the analytical details in the section covering each individual species). -
