Taylor, Technical Services Librarian Library Bibliography Series ©Spring 2002 1 PREFACE Since 1998, Dr. Jon Michael Spencer has donated more than 1,100 books from his personal research library as well as selected journals, microfilm of historic papers and research documentation to the L. Douglas Wilder Library at Virginia Union University. The subject areas reflect his specialties in the history and theology of African-American sacred and secular music, African history and slave culture, and African-American history and sociology. The collection includes a significant number of hymnals from various denominations. The former University of Richmond music and American studies professor is now a professor of religious studies at the University of South Carolina. He earned a music degree from Hampton University and completed graduate work in music composition as well as theology at Washington University and Duke Divinity School. Spencer donated this extensive collection to VUU for several reasons. Until the summer 2000, he was a resident of Richmond and VUU was the city’s African American university. As well, VUU has a School of Theology and Spencer has published extensively in the area of religion. Finally, his architect father, John H. Spencer, participated in the design of the Wilder library. It is in the elder Spencer’s name that Dr. Spencer has donated his collections. The books are housed in the library’s closed collections.

    1 Race Day Emergency Number: 079 266 6263 2 The Standard Bank 5150 Ekurhuleni returns to the City of Ekurhuleni for the 6th time. It is always exciting hosting the event in the City of Ekurhuleni. Germiston Lake, as a triathlon venue goes back for at least 30 years. Besides the clear water and the run in the park, the additional and unique 5150 value add, is a quality cycling course on a nearby national highway. The combination of these three courses makes up an exceptional must do triathlon. The cycling course is a superb triathlon time trial course. With such a massive triathlon following in the Gauteng region, the event is always welcomed with open arms. We look forward to hosting a quality event that we know our athletes enjoy. There are two race distances on Race Day: • 51.50 (km) = 1.5km swim + 40km cycle + 10km Run, also known as a standard distance or Olympic distance triathlon. • The FUNTRI which is open to individuals and teams of two or three in a relay format takes on a 400m swim, 20km cycle and a 5km run. The Standard Bank 5150 Ekurhuleni is the perfect race for all fitness levels and competencies: Whether you are looking to push for that PB time over the 5150 or just looking to take it easy and test the feel of a triathlon at the FUNTRI, you are at the right event. BMC Evolutionary Biology (2017) 17:115 DOI 10.1186/s12862-017-0964-5 RESEARCH ARTICLE Open Access Carriers of mitochondrial DNA macrohaplogroup R colonized Eurasia and Australasia from a southeast Asia core area Jose M Larruga1, Patricia Marrero2, Khaled K Abu-Amero3, Maria V Golubenko4 and Vicente M Cabrera1* Abstract Background: The colonization of Eurasia and Australasia by African modern humans has been explained, nearly unanimously, as the result of a quick southern coastal dispersal route through the Arabian Peninsula, the Indian subcontinent, and the Indochinese Peninsula, to reach Australia around 50 kya. The phylogeny and phylogeography of the major mitochondrial DNA Eurasian haplogroups M and N have played the main role in giving molecular genetics support to that scenario. However, using the same molecular tools, a northern route across central Asia has been invoked as an alternative that is more conciliatory with the fossil record of East Asia. Here, we assess as the Eurasian macrohaplogroup R fits in the northern path. Results: Haplogroup U, with a founder age around 50 kya, is one of the oldest clades of macrohaplogroup R in western Asia. The main branches of U expanded in successive waves across West, Central and South Asia before the Last Glacial Maximum. All these dispersions had rather overlapping ranges. Some of them, as those of U6 and U3, reached North Africa. At the other end of Asia, in Wallacea, another branch of macrohaplogroup R, haplogroup P, also independently expanded in the area around 52 kya, in this case as isolated bursts geographically well structured, with autochthonous branches in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines.

High Street runs through the precinct between the 2 main entrances off Corlett Drive and Atholl Oaklands Road (shown by the red arrows on the map overleaf). The Arup premises are located between the intersections of Crescent Drive and Whitely Road. As a visitor to Arup in Melrose Arch you will make use of the normal basement parking used by shoppers, underneath the Arup premises. This parking is accessed via Parking Entrance 1, which is clearly marked from Melrose Boulevard of 44 Melrose Boulevard. You may access Arup from the parking basement lift lobbies where you will be able to use the intercom provided to speak to a receptionist and gain access to the lift lobby. You may then take a lift to the Arup reception situated on Level 1 at No 10 High Street.
