TIME OWLZ STARTER CHUKARS STARTER *Friday, Sep 9 TBD TBD TBD TBD NEWS AND NOTES Second Half Recap: Flip-flopping their 13-25 first half record, the Chukars finished the second half of the Pioneer League season with a 25-13 record, finishing a game ahead of the Ogden Raptors (24-14) for the best record in the South division for the half. Overall, the Chukars finished the season with a .295 batting average (2nd) while scoring the most runs in the league (489) during the season. The Chukars also led the league in hits (791) and triples (48). Worst to First: With two games left in the second half, the Idaho Falls Chukars clinched the Pioneer League South. It is the second time in three years the Chukars have won the second half of the Pioneer League South. In 2013, the Chukars finished last in the first half, won the second half and won the Pioneer League title. This year, Idaho Falls went 13-25 in the first half, and clinched on Sunday with a 25-11 record, a season-high 14 games over .500. New Additions: Over the last week, the Chukars have added double-digit players to their roster. In addition to adding RHP Arnaldo Hernandez on Monday, infielders Brandon Dulin and Jose Martinez were added from Burlington while OF Rudy Martin, LHP Nicholas Argos and INF Carlos Diaz were added from the AZL Royals on Wednesday. They join pitchers Jacob Bodner, Matt Ditman and Julio Pinto along with catcher Xavier Fernandez who were added to the Chukars roster from Burlington. INF Gabirel Noriega was with the Chukars the previous four games on a rehab stint from Triple-A Omaha. Record-Setter: With two hits last night, second basemen DJ Burt finished off his regular season reaching base in his final 54 straight games. That is the longest in the league since it started recording this stat in 2009 as streak in professional baseball this year. Burt surpassed Cardinals OF Matt Holiday (47 games) for the longest streak of such kind in baseball this year. He hit .389 with 28 runs scored and seven triples in August, winning Chukars player of the month. First Half Recap: In the first season under an entirely new coaching staff, the Chukars finished the first half of the Pioneer League slate with a 13-25 record, finishing last in the Pioneer League South division. Despite the record, the Chukars offense finished third in the league in batting average (.290) and fourth in the league in runs scored (238). Their 5.33 team ERA steadily improved throughout the half, finishing fifth in the league. 2015 Chukars All-Stars: Last month, three Chukars participated in the first ever Pioneer League/Northwest League All-Star game in Spokane, Washington. First basemen Josh Banuelos went 0-for-1 with two walks and made several fine plays defensively while outfielder Amalani Fukofuka went 0-for-1 at the plate with one walk. Relief pitcher Tripp Davis also tossed a scoreless inning. Both Fukofuka and Banuelos were named Postseason All-Stars as well.
