LONG YEAR FOR THE LONG BALL--The Royals did not allow a home run in last night’s contest, just the third time in the last 25 games the opposition has not gone deep, while also snapping a club record 15 consecutive home games in which the visitor hit a big fly...while the Royals have given up their share of home runs through the first three-plus months of the 2016 season, the long ball numbers aren’t just up in Kansas City, they are on the rise all over Major League Baseball... entering play today, there have been 3,021 roundtrippers hit in the Majors, 1,580 allowed by American League hurlers and 1,441 by pitchers in the National League, with 46 being clubbed last night alone...the 2016 season total marks 601 more home runs allowed through July 7 of last season, when 2,420 had been surrendered (1,253 in the A.L. and 1,167 in the N.L.).

INJURY BUG BITES HARD--The Royals could probably use the upcoming All-Star break more than most as injuries have been a huge factor in the club’s recent struggles on the field...Kansas City lost Wade Davis to the D.L. on Tuesday with a right forearm strain, with his transaction retroactive to July 1 and making him eligible to return on July 16...on the last night of the last homestand, June 28, the Royals lost All-Star centerfielder Lorenzo Cain with a left hamstring strain that has him eligible to return after the All-Star break...righthanded starter, , was removed from his minor league injury rehab start in the third inning on Tuesday night with a right shoulder strain and returned to the big league club effectively halting his rehab assignment...Kansas City has already lost All-Star Mike Moustakas for the season after he underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL, the result of a collision with leftfielder Alex Gordon on May 22 in Chicago...that collision also fractured Gordon’s right wrist, costing him a month on the disabled list as well.

GORDO STILL AMONG DEFENSIVE ELITE--Four-time Rawlings Gold Glove winner, Alex Gordon, recorded a pair of outfield assists during the just completed road trip to up his career total to 72, the most of any outfielder since he made the move to left in 2010...Colorado’s Gerardo Parra has recorded 71 assists in the same time frame to rank second in that span...Gordon, who transitioned to the outfield at the mid-point of the 2010 campaign, won theRawlings Gold Glove for defensive excellence for 2011-14 and was just edged out last year after missing six weeks due to an injury.
