During the coalition build attendees heard from a victim of human trafficking, discussed how they could work together to decrease the human trafficking crime rate and that free education and information is available to companies through Truckers Against Trafficking. Esther Goetsch, coalition build specialist with Truckers Against Trafficking said “Truckers and truck stop employees are in a strategic position to report crimes as they are taking place and can help law enforcement in recovering victims and having traffickers arrested.” If you spot someone who might be a victim of human trafficking, it was stressed that you make a call to local law enforcement, or call the National Human Trafficking Resource Center at (888) 373-7888 to report it. It is important that you do not take the situation into your own hands. “Truck drivers are the eyes and ears of the road and as an industry we can help law enforcement be proactive in decreasing the number of human tracking crimes if we all work together.” Said Tom Whitaker, executive director of the Kansas Motor Carriers Association.
