NEWS

Issue 11 of Slotmagazine arrived a few days ago. We have a few copies left.

New from Slot.it this month, we have both a car, and an Alfa 33/3 in the “Classics” range of 70’s sports cars. The Group C is a Porsche 956KH in “MOMO” livery, with a new lightened body, weighting only 17.5g around the same as the recently released R89 Group C car. Lighter body means snappier acceleration out of corners . . . . . and it’s a MOMO.

The Porsche 956 and later 962 models could be assembled with two different rear wing configurations: “low downforce”, used mostly in Le Mans where the 6.5 km Hunaudières straight required a very low drag at the expense of downforce, and “high downforce”, for twistier circuits. Regardless of the configuration, Porsche 956 and 962 cars were the cars to beat in any Group C competition in the early 80's.

And the Alfa is the car No.2 driven by Andrea de Adamich and Gijs van Lennep to 2nd place at the Targa Florio in 1971 behind the No.5 Alfa of Nino Vaccarella and Toine Hezemans.

The Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Sport Prototype was designed in the mid 1960s to race in the World Sports Car Championship. Eventually it succeeded and won the This model is part of 'The Targa Florio Winners' Manufacturers' Championship in 1975, and again in collection - special limited edition box available 1977. separately. The 'T33/3' cars featured a monocoque chassis, paneled

in aluminium and magnesium, a V8 2998 cc engine, and a 6 or 5 speed gearbox. Top speed reached 330 km/h, at Le Mans with long tail. Also now in stock are spare parts for the We have just received a re-stock of 3/16th (4.8mm) Group C car launched last month, and new packs of track braid in 152 metre rolls, and of double-sided motor mount screws, with a Phillips head – so much track tape in both widths. better I think than blade head as is popular in Europe.

Now I am just waiting on a consignment of 30 metre spools of braid in both widths. This should arrive sometime in March.

And just a reminder that the Slot.it site is a mine of information if you care to browse around it. http://www.slot.it/INGLESE/slotit_GB.html

EVENTS RTR Nationals The RTR Nationals will return to Hawkes Bay for this year on 1st to 3rd of May. – Check your calendar and make a space!! As per my notes in the February newsletter, the Hawkes Bay club are preparing to make this most encompassing Nationals event to date with slotters from around the country, and we hope to raise the bar and make it the best Nationals ever. We are organising billets for as many out- of-towners as possible, to keep the cost down for those under a tight budget. But if you prefer to stay in rented accommodation, I am working on an option for a holiday home one minute from the venue in Westshore, which can sleep quite a few. If that is of possible interest – holler now. Alternately I can recommend so local motels at various price-points from basic flash-packer up to 4 star.

Chris has the new permanent trophies in hand, and this will be the last year that the 1950-s- 60s Ninco Classics class is raced; as it will be replaced next year by the much higher SSD International Slotcar Championship tech and faster NSR Classics from the 1970s. – Crossing the Borders

The NZSCA site still doesn’t have the rules and entry forms 20 teams, in 10 different cities from 6 different up, so Chris Chris has provided docs for me to load up countries (New Zealand, Canada, USA, UK, The on a server, so that anyone can grab copies. Netherlands, and Denmark) will compete in a 2-hours endurance slotcar race without leaving their respective WORD FORMAT (.doc) homes.

CanAm Proxy Series The field is full, first entries are already with the organiser Dave West, and scrutineering will take place at the end of this month.

The cars will be without traction magnets and only limited modifications are allowed: the use of Urethane tyres (offered by Route1Racing.com) and inserting ballast inside the cars. The event will be held on Sunday 15th of March starting with Practice at 9:00 am (New Zealand time), followed at 9:30 am of a 20 min qualifying session to decide the order of the starting grid. The race will start sharp at 10:00 am.

Proxy Racing (constructor competition) is alive and doing very well in New Zealand. To have both this and an expected overfull field of cars for the G.5 proxy later this year, both from one the world’s smaller slotting countries is a great boom. Next month we will have pictures of the full field, and possibly results of qualifying for the first round.
