  • Three New Test Regions in Ham- Burg's Real Digital Mobility
DB subsidiary ioki brings on-demand shuttles to rural areas: Three new test regions in Ham- burg’s real digital mobility lab Mobility analyses show new potentials of public transport • Winsen: 30 percent of journeys could be shifted from the road to climate-friendly public transport in the short term • Shuttles in Winsen, Ahrensburg and Stormarn about to start this year (Hamburg, August 21, 2020) By December 2020, public transport will be almost to the doorstep in three more districts in the greater Hamburg area. In Hamburg’s real digital mobility lab (“Reallabor Hamburg”), the Deutsche Bahn subsidiary ioki initially conducts mobility analyses for the three test regions Ahrensburg, Stormarn and Süderelbe. The most recent investigation of commuter flows and mobility behaviour in the Süderelbe region (south of the Elbe river), shows: the greatest potential for a flexible demand-re- sponsive transport service – without fixed timetables and stops – is found in the city of Winsen in the district of Harburg. In a second step, ioki is developing the platform for the operation of the on-demand shuttles, which will start in Ahrensburg and Stormarn as well as in Winsen this year. "Our analyses provide answers to the urgent future questions in mobility. How can we make public transport even more attractive and thus promote climate protection? With mobility analyses, we can calculate in advance where on-demand services will bring the greatest benefits. In Hamburg itself, we have already carried out several analyses and gained extensive practical experience. Now it is important that rural areas outside the Hanseatic city also benefit from new forms of mobility," says ioki CEO Dr.

Ahner Directorate General Regional Policy European Commission B - 1049 Brussels Lüneburg, 19 January 2011 Consultation on the results of the 5th Cohesion Report Contribution of the 11 districts of the Lüneburg convergence area, Lower Saxony (Germany) Districts Celle, Cuxhaven, Harburg, Lüchow-Dannenberg, Lüneburg, Osterholz, Rotenburg/Wümme, Soltau-Fallingbostel, Stade, Uelzen and Verden Dear Dr Ahner, We were very interested in reading the Fifth Cohesion Report on economic and social cohesion, which the European Commission presented on 10 November 2010. The findings illustrate once more the great importance of European cohesion policy for the European integration process and the development of the regions. The community of the 11 districts making up the Lüneburg convergence area (NUTS 2, Lower Saxony) welcomes the proposed orientation of this policy. As the only western German convergence area, and in the light of the experiences gained over the course of the current funding period, we have discussed the report and the conclusions in detail at various levels. On this basis, we would briefly like to draw your attention to a few points which we consider important to the further discussion. We will send our contribution electronically to the responsible division C1 in both German and English. We would very much like to be involved in the further process, and would appreciate the opportunity to contribute during the drafting phase of the new regulations. Yours sincerely, (Dr. Elster) Veerßer Straße 53, 29525 Uelzen – Postfach 1761, 29507 Uelzen – Telefon 0581-82-0(201) – Telefax 0581-82485 Consultation on the results of the Fifth Cohesion Report Contribution from the districts of the Lüneburg convergence area, Lower Saxony (DE) Preliminary remarks With its Europe 2020 strategy, the EU Commission has created a framework which gives a good reason for hope that the key challenges of this decade can be met effectively.

  • Far-Right Protests and Migration
Far-right protests and migration. Enzo Brox1 Tommy Krieger2 March 12, 2021 Abstract We study how far-right rallies affect migration flows. To address this question, we use administrative and survey data from Germany and exploit that the city of Dresden unexpectedly experienced large-scale right-wing demonstrations. Results from dyadic fixed effect regressions and Synthetic Control analyses suggest that these rallies significantly reduced in-migration, especially of young Germans and foreigners. We also observe that many of these people are highly skilled. For out- migration, we find only small effects. Finally, we use results from a representative survey to illustrate that the far-right protests decreased Dresden's reputation and that people perceived this city as less secure afterwards. Email: [email protected] 1 Introduction During the last decade, virtually all advanced democracies experienced far- right demonstrations with several thousand participants (Mudde, 2019).1 In economics and political sciences, the question of why people support the far-right thus received great attention in the last years (see e.g. Dustmann et al., 2019, Fetzer, 2019, Steinmayr, 2020). By contrast, the consequences of the growing popularity of right-wing movements have so far hardly been studied. The purpose of this project is to fill this gap.

Karlsson1,2,3 & Michael Lesch4,5 & Lutz Weihermüller1 & Björn Thiele1 & Ulrich Disko1 & Diana Hofmann1 & Harry Vereecken1 & Sandra Spielvogel3 Received: 9 September 2019 /Accepted: 27 January 2020 /Published online: 6 February 2020 # The Author(s) 2020 Abstract Purpose Pesticide contamination of river waters is a global problem, and therefore, authorities regularly monitor the water quality status. Especially, flood events might transport large pesticide loads downstream and impact adjacent areas such as sensible floodplain environments by deposing particle bound pesticides or by contaminating the environments by dissolved substances directly. Unfortunately, only little attempts were made to quantify the pesticide pollution of such environments, as the monitoring of soil and sediment contamination is by far more time consuming and complicated compared to the analysis of water samples. Materials and methods In the study presented, we therefore used a holistic approach starting with the reconstruction of the inundation characteristics of a floodplain located in the upper part of the river Elbe, Germany, by using nearby gauging data, screened databases for pesticide concentrations and calculated pesticide loads, and finally, sampled the floodplain soils along an elevation (inundation) gradient. Results As expected, the reconstructed inundation characteristics showed that the low-lying areas of the backwater inflow of the floodplain were flooded more frequently compared to the areas at higher elevation, whereby even the highest elevations sampled were at least flooded during each decade.
