You’ll also discover the high plateau of the Southern Vercors, a land of pastures and history. It’s the biggest natural reserve in France and vastness and beauty will certainly amaze you! You check-in at your hotel near the centre of the village (castle, with swimming pool). Day 2 Chichilianne – Gresse en Vercors Eastern crossing by the hamlet of Ruthière and Trésane ; after that you climb towards the pass of Papavet : 1245m, the view over the Mount Aiguille is spectacular. Descent to the little hamlet of Bathie and ascent to the pass of Allimas (1352m). Descent to the village of Gresse en Vercors (1195m), at the bottom of the Vercors and the Grand Veymont, the summit of the Vercors at 2341m. Overnight in Gresse in a guesthouse - Inn or hotel. Day 3 The Pas de la Ville or the Grand Veymont Two options of hike : 1/ walk to the Pas de la Ville, the gates of the High Plateau, an ancient way between the Trièves and the Central Vercors. 5 to 6h walking per day, +/-750m 2/ Ascent to the Grand Veymont (2341m, the summit of the Vercors)) by the Pas de la Ville (1925m). 6 to 7h30 walking, +/-1150m. The view over the Trièves, the high plateau and the Alps is spectacular. Overnight in Gresse en Vercors in a guesthouse – Inn or hotel Day 4 Gresse - Richardière Richardière, by the Western side of the Mount Aiguille and the pass of of Aupet (1627m) : wonderful stage close to the Mount Aiguille. 5to 6h of walk. +710m, -930m or +900m, - 1000m according to the option. Overnight in a hotel. Trièves – Mont Aiguille, self-guided 2015 2 / 6 GRAND ANGLE Day 5 Richardière – Les Nonnières Spectacular ascent by the Pas de l’Aiguille, the gate of the Southern Vercors high plateau (wonderful !). From there you will reach the refuge of the Chaumailloux before taking the Pas de la Chèvrière, after that you’ll reach the sheepfold of Chamousset and the small valley of Combeau, a beautiful valley that will lead you to the village of Nonnières, at the border of the Diois. 7h. +850m, -1000m. Overnight in a hotel (swimming pool). Day 6 The corrie of d’Archiane or the Mount Barral Two optioal walks : 1/ Walk to the corrie of Archianne, at the bottom of orange cliffs, the most beautiful corrie of the Vercors, by the Provencal village of Bénevise. Back to Nonnières.6h. +850m, -850m. 2/ Ascent to Mount Barral (1903m). The view over the Diois and the Dévoluy. 6 to 7h. +1050m, -1050m. Overnight in a hotel (swimming pool). Day 7 Les Nonnières - Chichilianne , by the pass of Menée (1457m) and the pass of Prayet (1197m): your arrive facing the Mount Aiguille. 6h. +700m, -550m. Trièves – Mont Aiguille, self-guided 2015 3 / 6 GRAND ANGLE DETAILS LEVEL 3 Good walker: you need to be in a good shape. The stages are long but not technical. Between 4 and 7h walking / day, difference in height: 800m. LUGGAGE You only carry you daily belongings and your picnic. You will get you luggage at your hotel in the evening. ACCOMMODATION / FOOD Accommodation: 2* hotels (4 nights), 2 person sharing the room (3 nights in a hotel with swimming pool) + 2 nights in a guest house – Inn at Gresse en Vercors (same comfort as a 2* hotel), the welcoming is very friendly). Breakfast and diner at the hotel START / END START: Day 1 in the afternoon in Chichilianne END: Day 7 in the afternoon in Chichilianne ORGANISATION Self-guided tour, you will get a travel pack with maps, roadbook and vouchers. Possible from 1 st June to the end of October 2015 LENGTH 7 days and 6 nights ACCESS By car : you can park your car for the week at the hotel or nearby. By train : Clelles train station (changing in Grenoble, direction Gap). By plane : Grenoble St Geoirs airport ou Lyon St Exupéry. The bus station is adjacent to the train station of Grenoble. Bus from Clelles to Chichilianne : shuttle, 10’ Trièves – Mont Aiguille, self-guided 2015 4 / 6 GRAND ANGLE THE VERCORS Vercors Nature Park source The Natural Reserve of the High Plateau of the Vercors is protected since 1985 on over 17 000 hectares and it’s the biggest reserve in the metropolitan France. It’s the heart of the wild Vercors, no road and no inhabitants. The primary duty of the reserve is the protection of the biodiversity. This task is carried out by the presence of a permanent team of guards that monitor the flora and fauna. The guards have also an educational role, they teach to the visitors the objectives and the regulations of the reserve. Walkers reach a land where the settlements (a few non kept huts) and the signs (only the GR) where voluntarily limited to maintain the character.
