If I’m doing my job, you won’t notice what we are doing. Good administrators surround themselves with people who are better and smarter than they are. I’m blessed to have a support staff such as that. Thank You to Bob Mathews, Jerry Augustat and Kristine Ruetz. One thing that I hope you all did notice was adding ceramic tile to the children’s and office hallways. Paul Hanus and his crew that included several FBC members did a fantastic job. Thank You! It was a pretty uneventful year regarding building repairs and maintenance. We did have to replace one compressor and air conditioning unit that serves the Commons. With the move from the Commons to the Sanctuary for all Sunday services, the sound system went through a major upgrade. Jonathan McMahon and his musical crew did a great job getting that going. AJ Fekete and his coffee crew did a wonderful job converting the coffee counter to a real nice looking “coffee bar”. -

Introduction This is a story of the Cleveland automobile history and the entrepreneurs who made it possible. From Automobiles to Chewing Gum to Prohibition, Cleveland was booming in the beginning of the 20 th Century. By the Mid 19th century, great fortunes were being made in the Berea sandstone quarries. The Berea sandstone was a fine uniform grained stone particularly suited for grinding wheels and the architectural stonework popular in the rapidly growing Cleveland area. One of the families, who made its fortune in Berea’s stone quarrying business, was the family of Frank B. Stearns. This fortune enabled young Frank to finance and develop one of America’s first sporting cars, forming the F.B. -

As we travel, no one hungers. JULY 2018 DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE …… John Hook So, here we are mid-way thru the year and ready for America’s Birthday. July 4th is that special day in 1776 when we adopted the Declaration of Independence declaring the thirteen American Colonies were to be regarded as a new nation, and no longer part of the British Empire, and voted to declare such two days prior on July 2nd. So, why marching bands and fireworks? It might be because of the letter John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail: The second day of July 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more. Some historians say the Declaration was not signed until August 2, 1776.But Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, and John Adams all later wrote they had signed it on July 4th. Coincidentally, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, signers of the Declaration of Independence, later served as Presidents and both died the same day…July 4th, 1826. -
1970 Revival Glidden Tour
The Silver Anniversary {;jlidden Tour by Henry Austin Clark, Jr. Twenty-five years ago the Clarks headed off Long Island towards Albany for the start of the Fl RST Glidden Tour Revival in a thirty-four old Renault berline, wondering what it would be like, and how much trouble we would encounter. This October we again started off, this time to Mobile, Alabama in a forty-one year old Lincoln sport phaeton. The re spective years of the cars were 1912 and 1929, in cidentally, reflecting a significant change in the cars going on the Tours since the beginning. Oddly enough the 1912 Renault ran like a watch with no brakes, while the 1929 Lincoln gave lots of trouble on the way south, until helping friends made it right. In between the years 1946 and 1970 we have been to lots of places from Maine to the Rockies, and from Canada to Florida on the Tours.
