The known limoniid fauna of Israel previously comprised 16 species, and it is here increased to 51 species. Country records other than Israel are also included. Two extralimital species are treated, Idiocera (Idiocera) sziladyi from Egypt and Dicranomyia (Dicranomyia) luteipennis from Lebanon and Syria. Nine species are described as new: Paradelphomyia (Oxyrhiza) cycnea, Crypteria (Franckomyia) israelica, Gonomyia (Gonomyia) faria, Molophilus (Molophilus) banias, Phyllolabis golanensis, Dicranomyia (Dicranomyia) flavigenu, D. (D.) furthi, D. (D.) longiunguis and Limonia nussbaumi. A new synonym is established: Trentepohlia (Trentepohlia) zambesiae (Alexander, 1912) = T. (T.) efflatouni Pierre, 1923. A new name is proposed: Dicranomyia (Dicranomyia) signatella nom. n. for D. (D.) signata Lackschewitz in Lackschewitz and Pagast, 1941, a junior primary homonym of Dicranomyia signata Meijere, 1919. Lectotypes of Trentepohlia efflatouni and Dicranomyia signata are designated to stabilize the concept of the names. The biogeography of the Israeli Limoniidae is outlined. A key to the genera and keys to the species are given. KEY WORDS: Diptera, Limoniidae, Israel, new species, new synonymy, lectotype designations, new replacement name, biogeography, key.
