    THE STORY OF 13th AUSTRALIAN GENERAL HOSPITAL 8th DIVISION 2nd A. I. F. 1941 – 1945 This un-official history of the 13 Australian General Hospital during WW2 was written by A.C. (Lex) Arthurson VX61276 who was a Corporal in the unit. It was prompted by former POW nurse Vivian Bullwinkel asking if the history had ever been written. Lex undertook to do it. With the assistance of others, it was completed over two years. The original document was enhanced by many newspaper cutting, pictures and sketches. It was not possible to reproduce these. Some alternative images have been inserted. (Most of the sketches inserted into the story were done by Corporal Dick Cochran 2/12 Field Company (Engineers) and provided to me by Ken Gray former National President ex POWs Association). I am grateful to Lex for permission to reproduce this history. It is pleasing to note the extensive (and rightful) coverage given to the Nurses in this history.     Leadership Change at Eastern Health Alliance Singapore, 02 February 2016 – After more than 15 years of stellar service leading Changi General Hospital (CGH) and the Eastern Health Alliance (EH Alliance), Mr TK Udairam will be stepping down as Group CEO of EH Alliance from 6 Apr 2016. The EH Alliance Board of Directors will be working with Ministry of Health to commence a search for a suitable successor. Pending the appointment of a new Group CEO, Dr Lee Chien Earn, CEO CGH will be appointed Acting Group CEO, EH Alliance. Mr Udairam was CEO of CGH from 1 February 2000 to 1 May 2012. Under his leadership, CGH grew to become a leading healthcare institution with more than twenty medical specialties and several medical centres of excellence. His focus on improving efficiency and workflows in CGH is backed by his belief in staying close to the ground. Mr Udairam often visits care delivery teams at their work stations to observe and understand the challenges faced by the ground staff and garner feedback and resources to help drive improvements in the delivery of care. As the first Group CEO of EH Alliance since 2011, he has led the development of the regional health system in the eastern part of Singapore. He played a pivotal role in developing a unique collaborative model involving the staff, public and private sectors to meet the needs of the population in the east. He was instrumental in convening, guiding and driving the EH Alliance from its conception to inception to growing it to what it is today.

    English text of Prime Minister’s National Day Rally Speech in Mandarin on 16 August 2009 My fellow Singaporeans, good evening. We are experiencing an unprecedented economic storm. The economy plunged in the first quarter. Fortunately, it rebounded in the second quarter. The situation is now stabilising. Early this year, we introduced the Resilience Package in the Budget and are now seeing results. There have been no massive retrenchments. Unemployment has been kept at an acceptable level with only a small rise in job losses. The economic storm does have an impact on Singaporeans and more people are asking their MPs, town councils or CDCs (community development councils) for help. However, until now, for most Singaporeans, life goes on normally. Their jobs are safe and are generally in good spirits. The people have just happily celebrated National Day. Travel fairs have been busy too. I have a picture here showing a travel fair held last week. The boss of the travel agency was very happy. He told reporters: “Many people have not gone for holidays this year. They cannot stand it anymore!” Stronger evidence of this upbeat mood is the fact that the property market is seeing queues again. Putting aside the question of whether it is a good or bad sign, it does suggest that Singaporeans are quite confident about the future. Whatever the case, the Government will continue to watch economic trends in the next few months. The global economy is stabilising. Some Singapore firms are starting to hire staff. Massive retrenchments are unlikely this quarter which is the third quarter.
