    RESOLUTION Beacon House Association Whereas, the Beacon House Association of San Pedro was founded in 1970 and incorporated in the State of California on May 14, 1974; and Whereas, the Beacon House Association of San Pedro was the vision of Father Art Bartlett and Mike Dowling who saw the need for a safe haven for men seeking recovery from alcoholism and other drug addictions; and Whereas, the Beacon House Association of San Pedro has developed through the years from its humble beginnings with one building and 12 residents to an eight building complex overlooking the Port of Los Angeles housing 120 men; and Whereas, the Beacon House Association of San Pedro is dedicated to community service with Beacon House men annually volunteering over 42,000 hours of service annually to civic, charitable and cultural organizations and events; and Whereas, the Beacon House Association of San Pedro has helped more than 4,800 men establish clean and sober lives based on the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that by the adoption of this resolution, the Mayor along with the City Attorney, Controller and the Los Angeles City Council, do hereby commend the Beacon House Association of San Pedro for being a valuable community resource and join in commemorating the 35th Anniversary of its incorporation.
