On winning the Oscar for Walk the Line, she said "It made me realize how much I have it all! It's real purty on my bookcase. Everybody that comes to my house, I say, "You can touch it, but you have to give a speech." In 2010, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She was named one of People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People" in 2002. She claims she is a descendant of Scottish-born Presbyterian minister John Witherspoon, who signed the United States Declaration of Independence. Her claim has not been verified by the Society of the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence genealogists. As a result of her father serving in the U.S. military in Wiesbaden, Germany, she lived there for four years when she was young. On returning to the U.S., the family settled in Nashville, Tennessee, where she spent her childhood. In the past, she has been romantically linked to several actors including Jason London, Stephen Dorff, Chris O'Donnell, Mark Wahlberg and Jake Gyllenhaal. A mutual friend, brought actor Ryan Phillippe to Witherspoon's 21st birthday party in 1997. On meeting Phillippe, she told him, "I think you're my present." A mutual intense emotional connection led to five weeks of phone calls, letters, and e-mails, before they went on their first date. They moved in together soon after, became engaged in 1998 and married in 1999. When they split in 2006, she revealed that they had been going for couple's therapy; she said, "We've done that in the past, and it's always struck me as odd that people grabbed onto that story and made it sound so negative. In what capacity is working on yourself or your marriage a bad thing? What marriage isn't a journey? If you don't have money to go to therapy, there's always church. You can get together with groups and friends and talk about things with other couples." In a 2007 interview, Phillippe said, "After the divorce, I was a physical wreck. I wanted to die. I was ready to kill myself. I was not taking care of myself at all. I would wake up and cry and vomit." In 2013, she and her husband James Toth were arrested and jailed for suspicion of driving under the influence and disorderly conduct. She was cited for disorderly conduct for disobeying the arresting officer's instructions to remain in the vehicle, telling him she did not believe he was a real police officer and saying to him "Do you know my name? You're about to find out who I am." The couple was released on bond at 3:30 AM the same day. In a statement published following the incident, she said, "I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I'm very sorry for my behavior." In 2000, she named her production company, Type A Films, after the childhood nickname "Little Miss Type A." Her parents nicknamed her for being highly driven and excelling at Harpeth Hall School For Girls. Type A's first project was Penelope (2008) starring Christina Ricci. She said of her fear of water, "Do you ever have those dreams where you're drowning and nobody's helping you? And people are just standing on the bank watching you drown? Not really funny! I remember three occasions where my mother dove into a pool to save a child that was drowning.

www.cablefaxdaily.com, Published by Access Intelligence, LLC, Tel: 301-354-2101 Cablefax DailyTM Tuesday — November 20, 2018 What the Industry Reads First Volume 29 / No. 224 Franchise Fees: LFAs Sweating Proposed FCC Changes Cities, towns and public access channels have flooded theFCC with comments on a proposed rulemaking that seeks to include cable-related, in-kind contributions in the definition of franchise fees. The fees are the monies paid for using rights of way to provide service. Under the new definition, in-kind contributions would include things such as unlimited free or discounted cable services for Local Franchise Authorities (LFAs) . Thus those contributions would be subject to the statutory 5% franchise fee cap. While cable’s an obvious fan of the move, franchises, wary of losing money or services, aren’t. “The Commission’s proposals violate the plain language of the statute which authorizes LFAs to both collect franchise fees and to impose franchise requirements on cable operators,” said a joint filing from a number of players, including the cities of Atlanta, Dallas and Boston. Public access channels are concerned that the proposal deems non-capital Public, Educational & Governmental requirements as franchise fees. “Such an action would deci- mate our ability to provide services to our community,” said PhillyCAM, the nonprofit that operates the City of Phila- delphia’s public access TV. The FCC’s Second Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, which makes these tentative conclusions, was adopted 4-0 in September. It addresses issues raised in July after the US Sixth Circuit vacated parts of FCC decisions that had limited the ability of LFAs to regulate non-cable services provided over a mixed use cable system and nixed LFAs imposing non-monetary assessments on cable ops.
