Landing in the bustling fishing harbor, you will board a motor coach to start your exploration. Your first stop will be at the Skagen Museum. Between 1870 and 1930 a group of artists were drawn to Skagen for the very special light found only in this part of the country. They became known later as the Skagen painters and they formed an internationally known artist colony. The Skagen painters favorite scenes were the working fishermen, the charming fishermen’s cottages, and the picturesque landscapes. Next, you will visit Denmark’s most northerly point, Grenen, where two seas, the Skagerak and the Kattegat, meet. Board a tractor trolley for the drive through the sand. Grenen means ’the twig’ in Danish and refers not only to the shape of the spit but to the way it sways slowly between east and west, according to wind and currents. You will also see Skagen’s collection of lighthouses; dating from 1627, to the still active lighthouse built in 1858. Return by bus back to the pier. Please note: There are no ramps at the museum or at Grenen. As there are sand, gravel and uneven surfaces at the stops, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
