Supervised Research (Residents) Quality Improvement Projects Kairouz V. Checklist with multidisciplinary intervention for CHF patients to improve readmission rate, adherence to guidelines, and patient education. This project involves evaluating the use of a checklist with items such as medications, patient education, physical therapy assessment, and outpatient follow-up for patients admitted to the Buffalo General Medical Center with acute systolic CHF with a primary goal of reducing readmission rate. Recipient of GME Award 2014. Ongoing Projects Yedlapati S, Frankiewicz J (Madam, N to join). Myocardial perfusion imaging for further risk stratification in patients with borderline troponin elevation of unclear clinical significance. The purpose of this project is to evaluate whether patients with a borderline troponin elevation without clear evidence of an acute coronary syndrome or other obvious explanation have evidence of myocardial ischemia on nuclear stress testing and whether this correlates with CAD on cardiac catheterization. This may help clarify the etiology of borderline troponin elevations of unclear clinical significance which is a fairly common clinical quandary, and whether nuclear stress testing is a reasonable modality for further risk stratification in these cases. 5 Brian J. Page, MD December, 2014 Pasha K. Single Center Retrospective cohort study of Impact of Definity® Contrast Echocardiography on Evaluation of Left Ventricle thrombus. The purpose of this study is to evaluate how often administration of Definity echo contrast leads to the diagnosis of LV thrombus or rules it out on echocardiography when the non-contrast enhanced images are unclear, and how this may effect clinical management. This may impact echocardiography imaging protocols at the Buffalo General Medical Center. Papadopoulos G. Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography to Evaluate Patients with Mildly Elevated Troponins without Clinically Manifest Acute Coronary Syndrome. The purpose of this project is to evaluate whether patients with a mild troponin elevation without clear evidence of an acute coronary syndrome have evidence of significant CAD on coronary CTA. This may help clarify the etiology of mild troponin elevations of unclear clinical significance which is a fairly common clinical quandary, and determine whether coronary CTA can help further risk stratify these patients.
