This project was undertaken from November 2013 to February 2014 by Historic Resources Group (HRG). This Survey Report provides a summary of the work completed, including a description of the Survey Area; an overview of the field methodology; a summary of relevant contexts, themes, and property types; and complete lists of all recorded resources. Further to develop this interest and particularly to encourage American artists to study the possibilities of this medium of artistic expression, the Advisory Committee of the Museum has organized the present Exhibition. Some sixty'five American painters and photographers, few of whom have made their reputation as mural designers, were invited to submit examples of their work. In order to approximate the difficulties of an actual commission, each artist was asked to design a horizontal composition in three parts, the whole study to measure twenty-one inches high by four feet wide. One section of the study was to be carried through to completion on a large panel to meas ure seven feet high by four feet wide. Any practicable medium was permis sible. -

Abstract This thesis uses neo-Marxist theories of the state and their application to New Deal historiography as the framework within which to analyse the artworks produced under the auspices of the Treasury Section of Painting and Sculpture from 1934 to 1943 in Washington, D.C. Taking as its focus the murals and sculptures produced for the Justice Department, the Interior Department, and the Social Security Administration buildings it seeks to demonstrate how Section art reflected the twists and turns of the Roosevelt administration as it moved through the First New Deal, the Second New Deal, and the constitutional crisis in the lead up to war in Europe. -

Worth, Texas before moving to Los Angeles (1925). He was employed by the Holmes Book Company and the book departments of the May Company and Bullock's before opening his first shop (1927) which he relocated in 1929 and 1948. He sold rare books, prints, and paintings, lectured widely on subjects related to rare books and the history of science, and represented many collectors of the history of science. Zeitlin was also instrumental in bringing many collections to UCLA, including the Grunewald Graphic Arts Collection, and he personally donated several manuscript collections to the Department of Special Collections. The collection consists of correspondence, financial records, ephemera and catalogs related to Zeitlin's various bookshops and publishing enterprises, as well as personal correspondence with literary figures and other friends. Foster has served the field widely in reviewing the scholarship of his peers for The National Endowment of the Humanities, The National Endowment of the Arts and the Getty Post-Doctoral Grant Program. Additionally, he has administered and directed numerous fine arts and interdisciplinary programs of international scope; most notably, the University of Iowa’s Program for Modern Studies (with Estera Milman), widely respected as one of the best and most successful programs of its kind, the Corroborate (Intermedia Program), and The Dada Archive and Research Center, the largest American research center devoted to study in this field. As faculty involved in teaching and research at major art history programs from 1972 through 2001, Foster taught a full spectrum of twentieth century graduate courses and advanced seminars, and supervised numerous M.A. -
