See John Steele’s book: ‘No Ordinary Man’ p.185. 122 Stewart Thomas Alexander 9 Jan 1897 10 Jan 1897 64 NZ Herald, 11 Jan 1897: The funeral of the late Mr. Thomas Alexander Stewart, who died at Onehunga on Saturday morning, took place yesterday at St Peter’s Cemetery. The late Mr Stewart was born at Belfield, Scotland, and came to New Zealand in the year 1855(?). Shortly after his arrival, he settled in Onehunga, where he resided for some years. He then moved to Mangere, where he engaged in dairy farming for many years. Failing health, however, compelled him to give up his occupation, and he returned to Onehunga about three years ago. After two year’s intense suffering from Bright’s disease, he died last Saturday. A large concourse of neighbours and friends followed the remains of the deceased to their last resting place, the Rev Canon Haselden officiating at the interment. The deceased who was 64 years old leaves a widow, one son and three daughters.
