Five Popular Plants and Flowers for Christmas
Five popular plants and flowers for Christmas Posted by TBN_Admin On 12/17/2014 By: P K Martin The Christmas holiday is a time of beauty and cheerfulness and nothing symbolizes these two qualities as well as flowers. Several Christmas flowers and plants are available today which can be sent out to your loved ones to wish them "Merry X-Mas!" in a traditional and different style. Of course you can use all the latest technologies for sending out wishes within a few minutes, but for people you care the most there's no better way to show your love and care except Christmas flowers. So in this article we try to take a look at 5 such plants and flowers: Poinsettia: This is perhaps the most recognizable flower of Christmas. Originally they're green and bright red leaves but today they're sold in several patterns and colors. Originally they grow either in white, pink or red color, but today florists dye them in different colors and even add sparkles for making them more visually compelling. Amaryllis: Another popular Christmas plant is Amaryllis. This tall, graceful and beautiful flower bulb with its huge trumpet like flowers looks like a beautiful centerpiece for the table. Its beauty seems harking the Christmas holidays. Basically the red varieties of this flower are sold for holidays; but they come in several different colors from red to white to pink to orange and also in a wide variety of patterns like solid, stripped or speckled. Christmas Cactus: This is my favorite plant for Christmas. -

St. Benedict Catholic Church Sunday December 22, 2019 Fourth Sunday of Advent He’s One of Us PARISH: The Incarnation means that God is one of ST. BENEDICT, Honaunau us. He is made of our flesh and blood; he 84-5140 Painted Church Rd. laughs, sings, and loves people. Though we Captain Cook, HI 96704 believe he is God, he is still one of us. When identifying MISSION CHURCH: ourselves, we normally tell others what we ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST do. Societies like the one to which Jesus be- Kealakekua longed usually identified themselves by WEEKEND MASSES tracing ancestry. As Isaiah tells us today, St. Benedict, Honaunau Jesus belonged to the house of David. Paul Saturday 4:00 p.m. says that he was of David “according to the Sunday 7:15 a.m. flesh” (Romans 1:3). The Gospel identifies St. John the Baptist Kealakekua Joseph as a “son of David” (Matthew 1:20). Saturday 6:00 p.m. Since Jesus was considered Joseph’s legal Sunday 9:30 a.m. son, he also was a “son of David.” Joseph is WEEKDAY MASSES told that the child will be called Emmanuel, St. Benedict, Honaunau which means “God is with us” (Matthew 7:00 a.m. Tues., Thurs. & Friday 1:23). Thus, Incarnation means God is with us in a unique way in this man who St. John the Baptist Kealakekua is one of us. -

Poinsettias at Home on a Number of Continents
Poinsettias at home on a number of continents Origin: Central and South America. Its international popularity means that it is now an established part of the Christmas decorations in nu- merous other countries. Not only that: this attractive winter bloomer is one of the most popular indoor plants throughout the world, with enthusiasts in countries as widespread as Egypt, Australia, China, In- dia, Japan, Korea, South Africa, Taiwan and Turkey, and the numbers are growing. Whether it is known as the 'Christ Star' or 'Ataturk's Flower', whether at Chinese New Year or the Jewish Festival of Lights, no other plant bridges the divide between people, cultures and traditions across the continents in the way that the poinsettia does. In its home country Mexico The poinsettia is called 'La Flor de Nochebuena'—the Christmas Eve Flower—it has been directly as- sociated with Christmas since the 16th century. Its international role as a Christmas plant began in the early 20th century, and on illustrious ground: Los Angeles' Hollywood Boulevard, no less, where he began to sell poinsettia stems successfully as 'Christmas flowers' there was a German immigrant family called Ecke. In the 1950s it also became possible to cultivate poinsettias as indoor plants. This paved the way for people in numerous other countries. Whether it was known as the 'Adventsstern', 'Christmas Star' or 'Stella di Natale', the plant rapidly became part of households throughout Europe. In Europe, The poinsettia is an established feature of the Christmas tradition. With its star-shaped leaves and tradi- tional red and green colouring it is the ideal symbol of the season. -
A Second Look
SECOND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH A Second Look An Invitation to the Life and Work of Our Community of Faith and Fellowship A SECOND LOOK DECEMBER 2017 Second Presbyterian Initiates Concurrence With Overture on Syria In its October Meeting the Session approved a resolution on the conlict in Syria that was sent to the Presbytery for its approval as an Overture to next year’s General Assembly. The Overture comprised four parts. The Hirst two are directed at PCUSA’s advocacy in DC and elsewhere: 1) to stop the killing in Syria and bring about a durable ceaseHire; 2) to work for reconciliation in Syria. The second part also includes PCUSA’s efforts: 3) to alleviate the suffering, welcome refugees, and to revise economic sanctions against Syria so that affect ordinary people are not harmed; 4) to deepen our partnership with Syria Christians here and in the Middle East. The Presbytery of New York City concurred with the Overture in its November meeting. As other presbyteries have also approved resolutions for this Overture, it is now on the agenda for the General Assembly in June. 261 YEARS OF MINISTRY by excess by way of rich foods and Advent: Feast or alcohol, party clothing, and glitzy decorations in homes and stores. Fast? Several years ago I decided I no longer wanted to attend It is hard to imagine but Advent was Christmas parties and stopped once a season of prayer and fasting in doing so. I’m not much of a party the Western Church and still is in the person anyway, preferring small Eastern Church.
