ENTRY / EXIT REQUIREMENTS FOR U.S. CITIZENS: ARGENTINA A valid passport is required for U.S. citizens to enter Argentina. U.S. citizens do not need a visa for visits of up to 90 days for tourism or business. As a result of a recent change in Argentine law, prior to arrival in Argentina at any entry point, U.S. citizen tourist and business travelers must pay a $160 reciprocity fee by credit card online at the Provincia Pagos website . Once paid, you must print out the receipt and present it to the Argentine immigration officer at the time of entry. The fee is valid for ten years from the date of payment and multiple entries. Until June 30, 2013, passengers on cruise lines entering the country are exempt from paying the fee. The fee applies only to bearers of tourist passports. Travelers bearing diplomatic or official passports are required to get visas prior to arrival in Argentina but are not charged the reciprocity fee, nor are travelers transiting and not entering Argentina. U.S. citizens who arrive in Argentina with expired or damaged passports may be refused entry and returned to the United States at their own expense. The U.S. Embassy cannot provide guarantees on behalf of travelers in such situations, and we encourage you to ensure that your travel documents are valid and in good condition prior to departure from the United States. Different rules apply to U.S. citizens who also have Argentine nationality, depending on their dates of U.S. naturalization. Between Italy and Argentina: Circular Accents in Contemporary Migration Literature by Francesca Minonne A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy !(Romance Languages and Literatures: Italian) in the University of Michigan! 2016 Doctoral Committee: Associate Professor Giorgio Bertellini, Chair Associate Professor Paulina L. Alberto Professor Vincenzo A. Binetti Associate Professor Katharine M. Jenckes © Francesca Minonne 2016 Per Guido, my mom, e mio padre ii Acknowledgements First of all, I want to thank all of the friends, colleagues, and mentors who have helped me laugh, learn, and grow as a teacher and a scholar. In particular, I want to acknowledge everyone in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures and everyone I have worked with at the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching, the Sweetland Center for Writing, the Department of English, and the Department of Classical Studies. Thank you Grandma, Peggy, Guido, Jim, and Vincenzo for attending my oral defense. The initial idea for this dissertation came out of a final paper I wrote in Alejandro Herrero-Olaizola’s class Globalización, Consumo y Producción Cultural en América Latina. Muchísimas gracias to Matías Beverinotti for introducing me to Antonio Dal Masetto’s writing during that semester. Then a trip to Buenos Aires in 2012 gave me the chance to access numerous primary and secondary texts, put me in contact with local writers and scholars, and helped me experience firsthand the enormous influence Italian culture has had on Argentina’s capital city. The staff at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Buenos Aires, the Asociación Dante Alighieri, the Centro de Estudios Migratorios Latinoamericanos (CEMLA), and the Biblioteca Nacional were friendly and welcoming.

This article is brought to you by the William & Mary Law School Scholarship Repository. https://scholarship.law.wm.edu/wmlr SELECTED ASPECTS OF INTERNATIONAL AND MUNICIPAL LAW CONCERNING PASSPORTS DANIEL C. TuRAcK* Today, on our shrinking planet, the passport is playing an increasingly significant role. It is used as an instrument to frustrate travel, to prevent the individual from leaving his own country, or to preclude the bearer's ingress to some foreign territory. Despite its significance, major treatises and textbooks on international law reveal very little information con- cerning its use. The purpose of this article is to discuss some contempo- rary state and international practices concerning passports and to foster additional interest and research on the topic. WHO MAY RECEIVE A NATIONAL PASSPORT? At the present time, a nation is able to issue a passport to anyone it wishes according to its own municipal law. This prerogative has seldom been challenged. Whether a person is entitled to a passport may arise incidental to some other aspect of international concern such as a state trying to protect the bearer of its document.
