Powerful Earthquake Shakes South Asia

A strong earthquake of 7.7 magnitude struck south Asia.

The epicenter of the quake was in Jarm, north east Afghanistan. The quake struck at a depth of 213.5 km. Tremors were also experienced in Kabul, Islamabad, Delhi and some parts in North . According to Afghan and Pakistani officials, death toll has reached 300 so far.

First-Ever Atlas Book on Mars Mission Released

Dr. Jitendra Singh released the first-ever Hindi Atlas Book on “Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) in

New Delhi. Dr. Singh is the Union Minister of State of Atomic Energy and Space. The release took place on the occasion of the first meeting of reconstituted “Joint Hindi Salahkar Samiti” of the Department of Space and Department of Atomic Energy. He emphasized on the need for promotion of Hindi as a medium of instruction in scientific departments. The initiative aims to encourage young scientific minds in India to contribute even if they do not possess the knowledge of English Language.

Increase of Financial Assistance under Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi

Union Government has decided to increase the financial powers given to select Central Government hospitals/institutes.

The increase is from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh.

The financial assistance is provided in case of an emergency surgery. Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi (RAN) was established in 1997 to provide financial assistance to patients, living below poverty line. It mainly targets those suffering from major life threatening diseases related to heart, liver, kidney and cancer cases, etc.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) report, processed meats cause cancer.
