  • Journalism Is the Craft of Conveying News, Descriptive Material and Comment Via a Widening Spectrum of Media
Journalism is the craft of conveying news, descriptive material and comment via a widening spectrum of media. These include newspapers, magazines, radio and television, the internet and even, more recently, the cellphone. Journalists—be they writers, editors or photographers; broadcast presenters or producers—serve as the chief purveyors of information and opinion in contemporary mass society According to BBC journalist, Andrew Marr, "News is what the consensus of journalists determines it to be." From informal beginnings in the Europe of the 18th century, stimulated by the arrival of mechanized printing—in due course by mass production and in the 20th century by electronic communications technology— today's engines of journalistic enterprise include large corporations with global reach. The formal status of journalism has varied historically and, still varies vastly, from country to country. The modern state and hierarchical power structures in general have tended to see the unrestricted flow of information as a potential threat, and inimical to their own proper function. Hitler described the Press as a "machine for mass instruction," ideally, a "kind of school for adults." Journalism at its most vigorous, by contrast, tends to be propelled by the implications at least of the attitude epitomized by the Australian journalist John Pilger: "Secretive power loathes journalists who do their job, who push back screens, peer behind façades, lift rocks. Opprobrium from on high is their badge of honour." New journalism New Journalism was the name given to a style of 1960s and 1970s news writing and journalism which used literary techniques deemed unconventional at the time. The term was codified with its current meaning by Tom Wolfe in a 1973 collection of journalism articles.

Here comes Part XI of the Great Masters series. Once again the feature is taken from G.N. Joshi's book "Down Melody Lane". Rajan ===== ********************************************************************** pp 154-162 of Down Melody Lane My Guru Gunidas by G. N. Joshi Jagannathbuva Purohit - 'Gunidas' - was my Guruji. It is very difficult to express on paper my felings about him. He was kind and honest to the core, and possessed a wealth of new and rare musical compositions. He was very richly gifted, yet he called himself 'Gunidas'- servant of the gifted ones. It was unfortunate that I met him so late in my life. For 10 years I enjoyed his company and we became so close that I regarded him as one of my family. I respected him, stood in awe of him and yet we were bound together by unbreakable bonds of love. I do not quite remember where and when I first met this great man. I think it was around 1956 when I had gone to Manik Varma's house in Pune. He used to come there from Kolhapur a few days every month to give her tuition.

It is surprisingly related today. The main theme of Shakespeare’s work is ‘LOVE’- ‘the blind fool’. He indirectly acknowledges there may be obstacles in true love and urges to marry with true ‘mind’ rather than merely two people. This love is a bold subject matter that has always lacked rules and always attracts controversy - specially within the strict norms of Asian Culture. These various challenges and obstacles make multistory-love-complex silently. Cinema woos audiences by offering this emotion. Modern Indian Cineme is already an indestructible massive field of art work which has been successfully taken the extract of the Shakespearean drama to serve the common. The literary works of Shakespeare reinvigorate uncountable people of the world. The unique excellence of Bard’s ‘violent delights’ and ‘violent ends’; excessive passion and love full of zeal; jealousy and romance; greed for empowerment and assassination; laughter and satire; aesthetic sensibility and of course the plot construction both in comedy and tragedy- are all time favourite to Bollywood screen.
