The weather was great and so were the clinicians. Nancy Osterhaus organized a great group of people for the Ultimate Driving Experience. She had a diverse group of people talking about harnessing, hitching and then going out driving. You were able to get different presentations on harnessing and hitching. Some of the demonstrators went in great details on harnessing while others gave the basics. All the participants were able to get a good education on the basics of harnessing a horse. Everyone emphasized safety when harnessing and hitching. During one of the demonstrations, a participant picked up a horse being bitted differently than the other horse. Good Catch! After the demonstrations, participants that brought tickets were able to go for a ride and if they elected to they could try their hand on taking the lines. The demonstrators were Steve Hasse and assistant Steve with Clydesdales, Mary Jane Svedberg and assistant Lena Lensmith with Percherons, Tim Smebak and assistants Joan, Nicole, Rachel and Josh with Percherons, Scott Mckinster and assistant Michelle Cheever with Shires and Nancy and Wayne Osterhaus with a POA and Clydes- dale. There were carts, a wagonette, people mover, surrey and a vis-à-vis to drive. There were many comments on how awesome it was to drive the gentle giants and the POA. People were able to view boards on draft horses that included; a map and where the three major breeds Belgian, Clydesdale and Percheron originated, explanation of all the voice commands you can use with the horse, jobs they do, field work, horse shows and jumping. There was also a board in shape of a horse that explained what a hand measurement is and how a horse is measured. These boards were made by Lena Lensmith and Johanna Etlichter ,which were entered in the Wisconsin State Fair Draft Horse Education Division. They won the Chairman award. On Sunday Nancy Osterhaus and her POA Sparkle were able to give a handicap person a chance to drive. She (participant) thought it was awesome and was very exciting about being able to drive. Nancy then directed her to John Adametz, well-known farrier and teamster. He has made carts that were handi- cap accessible. She was then off to see him. Good Luck and we were glad to make your day. Thank you to everyone that helped with the demonstration and brought horses.
