This time there is just one entry, and that with a brand new engine. The British constructors have their eye on a bigger presence at future races, and with that in mind they are coming with an EXP speed 8 that is rather more different from last June’s model than meets the eye.On the other hand the technical personnel remain the same.Richard Lloyd, who was here in ’99 with the Audi R8C coupés,is still in overall command, backed up by team manager John Wickham, operations director Hiroshi Fushida,Technical director Allister Mc Queen and official consultant Derek Bell.As last year,Dave Ward has the chief mechanic’s role while Eddy Hincklem engineers the car.Following the accident at Paul Ricard in late April that destroyed the n° 5 chassis, what we see at this 24-race is the n° 6,which was pressed into its racing debut for preliminary practise.Since there is only one car,Bentley have kept the crew that finished third last year toether.” 2002 2002 2002 Eric van de Poele,Andy Wallace & Butch Leitzinger Conclusie van deze 24u van Le Mans: 2002 LE MANS 24 HOURS “4th Group LM GTP 320 laps in 24h 04’09”753/Distance 4494.13 km Average speed 205.294/h As was the case back in 1924,there was only Bentley in the field. And just like its famous ancestor,it bore the number eight. However, any similarities ended there.78 years ago,Frank Clement and John Duff had taken the first of five outright wins. This time the Wallace-van de Poele-Leitzinger Bentley finished fourth, having taken the bronze medal last year.Worth 2002 noting that from last year to this, the N° 8 reduced the gap from 15 to 13 laps. Also worth remembering is the fact that, apart from turbo bothers which spoilt a brilliant start to the race, from one in the morning,if fought back to defend its strong fourth place despite the best efforts of the Taylor-Angelleli-Tinseau Cadillac and from Sunday morning it also dealt with the advances of the sprankling Orecas. What next?Another go next year and hopes of doing better,as long as Audi and its drivers allow it.” 24 heures de Spa Francorchamps Deze keer wist Eric een plaatsje te versieren bij het Lister Storm team, samen met Andy Wallace,J.Cambell-Walter & N.Springer. ‘’.

IN TOUCH THE OFFICIAL MAGAZINE OF DUNLOP MOTORSPORT [ www.injection.tv ] LE MANS RACE EDITION Dunlop came away from the Le Mans 24 hours delighted with the performance of its dry and light wet tyres after a difficult race in which the changing condi- tions contributed to the overall result. “We were pretty competitive in all conditions other than full wet conditions,” says Dunlop’s chief tyre technician Matthew Simpson of the LMP2 tyres. “On the slick tyres and the light wet tyres, we had a performance advantage, but in full wet conditions we struggled to get temperature into our compounds. The Essex car had engine trouble so we were never going to do better than we did, but we have to look at the tyre perform- ance in wet conditions and make it better. “The Virgo Ferrari team were very strong and our development construction at the rear allowed us to double stint safely. There was no sign of difficulty in doing so, and there was zero deterioration from the first lap to the last in a double stint, according to the drivers. Le Mans podiums for Essex Perhaps we could have triple stinted, but we didn’t test that before the race and during the race was not the time to try. Porsche and Farnbacher Ferrari “The Creation team had four punctures and three of them were caused by debris. There was not enough left of the tyre to establish the cause of the fourth.” The 2008 edition of the Le Mans 24 hours produced was difficult to drive because sometimes the power was everything from a record breaking qualifying and race there, other times it wasn’t and we couldn’t know what to John Nielsen, Casper Elgaard and Sascha Maassen pace, a record crowd of 258,500 turning out in eager expect.

More than 27 Years of Helping Sick Children Through Motorsports The Program The Team Fast Facts Media Coverage Photos - Special Events www.racingforkids.org The Program Racing For Kids® is a unique national charity, which uses the popularity of motorsports to bring attention and funding to the health care needs of children and child health institutions. At the heart of the program are visits to Children’s Hospitals by the Racing For Kids drivers in the cities where they race. The drivers spend time with each sick child, sharing stories about their racing careers, signing autographs and giving out the popular Racing For Kids hats. For many hospitalized youngsters, these visits by the racers are the lone bright spot in what is often a rather gloomy experience. Attending physicians report that these visits play an important part in each child’s recovery therapy. Racing For Kids representatives have visited close to 30,000 sick children in more than 575 hospital visits in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Japan and Australia. Another important aspect of the Racing For Kids program is the funding that has been raised for Children’s Hospitals across the country. Since its founding in Detroit in 1989, Racing For Kids has raised more than $6.5 million through donations, specific fund raising events and in-kind gifts. Major sponsors of Racing For Kids include Humana, Inc., Bridgestone Firestone Trust Fund, TranSystems, Meridian Health Plan of Michigan, Benson Ford, Jr. and Douglas E. Fregin. Toyota Motorsports and The Grand Prix Foundation of Long Beach have made Racing For Kids a major charity of The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

  • Audi Enters Final Spurt in the ALMS
Ingolstadt, 31 August 2001 Audi enters final spurt in the ALMS Suspense is guaranteed in the final spurt of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). Prior to the last two rounds of the season in Laguna Seca and Road Atlanta, the four front-running Audi works drivers Rinaldo Capello, Tom Kristensen, Emanuele Pirro and Frank Biela are separated bY just a few points in the overall championship. However, after securing victorY in Mid- Ohio, Panoz drivers Jan Magnussen and David Brabham still have a good chance to take the title. Team Audi Sport North America faces a difficult task in Laguna Seca on 9 September: On the one hand, all drivers of the team have delivered an open and mightY duel against each other with their two Infineon Audi R8 sportscars. On the other hand, the strong opposition from the Panoz team prevents the Audi squad from taking any unnecessarY risks. Moreover, the 2.24 mile circuit near MontereY on the Californian coast is regarded as unpredictable, with fine sand blowing over the track from the nearby ocean. “If You leave the racing line it gets extremelY slipperY,“ remembers Head of Audi Sport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich from last Year. “Apart from that, in the earlY morning hours it can be very cold before turning reallY hot around middaY.“ Changing temperatures and grip conditions make finding a suitable set up difficult. For this reason, Team Audi Sport North America are pleased to have experience at hand from last Year, when, after a sensational fight, Audi secured not only a double win but also took the ALMS manufacturer´s title before the season had even finished.

The fastest Peugeot LMP1 car was clocked at 344km/h (214mph) on Wednesday night. Cars break 200mph three times during a single lap and more than 75% of the circuit is completed at full throttle. The fastest LMP2 car was the van Merksteijn Porsche at 326km/h. GT1’s fastest car was the IPB Spartak Lamborghini Murcielago at 315km/h and in GT2 the Virgo Motorsport Ferrari clocked 299km/h. Last year’s winning Audi completed 5,091km at an average of 209.152km/h. How long is the track? Last modified in 2007, the track length is 13.629km. The qualifying time from 2007 was 3m26.344s set by Stephane Sarrazin for Peugeot, and the fastest race lap was 3m27.176 set by Allan McNish’s Audi. Sarrazin is on pole this year with a 3m18.513s lap, an average lap speed of 247.16km/h. How do the tyre manufacturers stack up? Dunlop has won the Le Mans 24 hours 34 times, its first in 1924 with Bentley and its most recent in 1991 with Mazda. The next best score for a tyre manufacturer is Michelin with 16 wins, and Goodyear has 14, most recently in 1997. Mixed fortunes for Dunlop How many tyres will Dunlop bring this year? Dunlop has brought nearly 3,000 tyres to Le Mans this year. These include five different slick dry-weather variants, and three levels of wet weather tyre. One third of the total number were built since teams in qualifying at Le Mans the test day on June 1.

  • Audi Triumphs in California Quotes After the Race
Sears Point, 23 July 2000 Audi triumphs in California Audi recovers in the point battle of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) with a solid one and two finish at Sears Point. Allan McNish and Rinaldo Capello won the 2:45 hour race in California with a start to finish victory over Le Mans winners Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro in the companion Audi R8. Audi now assumes second position in the manufacturers championship. Almost two hours Allan McNish fought through the field on the narrow track before handing over to Rinaldo Capello with one lap on the field. At half time of the race only the two Audi R8’s built at Audi Sport in Ingolstadt (Germany) were running within one lap. At the beginning of the race Emanuele Pirro and the fastest Panoz had struggled hard for second position. For fans and drivers Sears Point Raceway is a very unusual and exciting track. Situated in the Californian wine country the spectators have a great view all over the 2.52 miles circuit. For the drivers the narrow track offers a great challenge. “Sears Point is the Californian Nordschleife“, says Frank Biela, referring to the famous part of Germany’s Nurburgring. „It is very difficult to find the right line. Having very little run off areas you must not make any mistakes.” There is not much time to recover in sunny California for Audi Sport North America: After further tests in the USA, Audi starts at the sixth round of the ALMS at Mosport on 6 August. The goal during the only appearance in Canada is to make up further points in the very close championship.

  • Audi Keen to Wrap up the Drivers' Title in Las Vegas
23 October 2000 Audi Keen To Wrap Up The Drivers’ Title in Las Vegas The American Le Mans Series (ALMS) enters the final spurt: 14 days after securing the manufacturers´ title with a double victory at Laguna Seca, Audi prepares to tackle the penultimate round of the ALMS in the casino city of Las Vegas. For Team Audi Sport North America, who has also clinched the team title, the round in the US state of Nevada is not only about another race victory. Audi is also eager to tie up the drivers´ championship. "It would be wonderful if we manage this. If not, we have to wait until New Year´s Eve for the title decision," explains Head of Audi Sport, Dr Wolfgang Ullrich. The final round of the American Le Mans Series will be played out on the 31st of December in Adelaide, Australia. BMW pilots, Jörg Müller and JJ Lehto, are the only competitors who could threaten Audi´s chance at the driver´s trophy. Should current points´ leader Allan McNish take first or second in Las Vegas, then theoretically only team mate Rinaldo Capello is in a position to fight for the title at the final round in Adelaide. McNish is optimistic heading to the Las Vegas race: "As opposed to BMW and Panoz, this circuit is new territory for us - but to date the Audi R8 has always worked perfectly." In Las Vegas, the Audi pilots are anticipating circuit conditions similar to the Texas round held in early September. The race is contested over a part of the oval combined with a twisting, narrow infield section.
