Preface With some hesitation at CBS, Cayuga Productions continued Twilight Zone for what would be its last season, with a thirty-six episode pipeline – a larger count than had been seen since its first year. Producer Bert Granet, who began producing in the previous season, was soon replaced by William Froug as he moved on to other projects. The fifth season has always been considered the weakest and, as one reviewer stated, “undisputably the worst.” Harsh criticism. The lopsidedness of Seasons 4 and 5 – with a smattering of episodes that egregiously deviated from the TZ mold, made for a series much-changed from the one everyone had come to know. A possible reason for this was an abundance of rather disdainful or at least less-likeable characters. Most were simply too hard to warm up to, or at the very least, identify with. But it wasn’t just TZ that was changing. Television was no longer as new a medium. “It was a period of great ferment,” said George Clayton Johnson. By 1963, the idyllic world of the 1950s was disappearing by the day. More grittily realistic and reality-based TV shows were imminent, as per the viewing audience’s demand and it was only a matter of time before the curtain came down on the kinds of shows everyone grew to love in the 50s.

Through it, we intend to stress the influence his books and/or the films based on them had on many young generations who, under their shelter, chose a career in medicine. Prize-winning writer and PhD, in his works -formally adorned with his great talent for description and observation- he intermingles naturalism, conflicting passions, medical situations and social criticism. Beyond all discussion about his literary career and his repercussion on film, his influence on those who embraced Medicine following in the steps of his characters, many of whom were nothing more than a reflection of himself, is unquestionable.     FOR FURTHER STUDY: DIRECTED BY IDA LUPINO COLLECTION RESOURCES Rumored to have been born underneath a dining room table during a Zeppelin raid over London in World War I, by 1933, at sixteen years old, Ida Lupino arrived in Hollywood appearing in films such as Search for Beauty (1934), Ready for Love (1934) and Anything Goes (1936). By the 1940s, Lupino became known for starring roles in notable films including They Drive by Night (1940), High Sierra (1941) and The Man I Love (1946). At the end of the decade, the actress founded her own independent production company where she would write, produce and direct several films – an uncommon accomplishment for any actor of her generation, especially as one of the only women directors in the industry during this period. As a feature film director, Lupino frequently captured a common theme of post-World World II domestic alienation, exploring ordinary citizens struggling amid Ida Lupino was one of the few women working behind social issues such as unwanted pregnancy (Not the camera in both film and television during the 1940s Wanted, 1949), polio (Never Fear, 1949) and rape – 1970s.     JOHN BOORMAN (18 January 1933, London, England) directed only one film before Point Blank–Catch Us if You Can (1965). Before that, he directed the television series "The Newcomers." His most recent film is Country of My Skull (2004). Some of the others are The Tailor of Panama (2001), The General (1998), Beyond Rangoon (1995), Hope and Glory (1987), The Emerald Forest (1985), Excalibur (1981), Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977), Zardoz (1974), Deliverance (1972), and Hell in the Pacific (1968). In 1998 he did a tv bio, "Lee Marvin: A Personal Portrait." LEE MARVIN (19 February 1924, New York, New York—29 August 1987, Tucson, Arizona, heart attack) acted in 43 films and numerous TV programs. His last film was The Delta Force (1986).     The Television Works of Bernard Herrmann

    Television Works of Bernard Herrmann By William Wrobel While Bernard Herrmann is generally best known as a feature film composer, he also established a prodigious amount of work for both radio and television. The scope of this paper is Herrmann’s television music that ranges from his first (“A Christmas Carol”) in December 1954 to his known final one (an episode of The Virginian titled “Last Grave At Socorro Creek”) in early 1969. The format of this paper is to elaborate, at least in part, on each of his works for the “small screen” based on as complete a list that can be presently verified. This presentation will not necessarily be based in factual, chronological order since exact dates of completion are rarely given in his television scores (unlike most of his feature film works). A list based on original airdates would be logical, but this would not be applicable to his television “suites” (such as the so-called Western Saga suite or collection of thematic cues). Such suites for the CBS-TV Music Library were composed for the purpose of being later “tracked” when needed as part of a body of “stock” music for episodes of CBS series which had no original score, tracked in by a music editor (usually Gene Feldman). For purposes of simplicity, the sequence of this paper’s presentation of Herrmann’s television works will be based according to the two only entertainment entities he did television work for: CBS and Universal-Revue Studios (the latter productions usually aired on the NBC network). Only in one case (“The Richard Boone Show”) were the shows produced at MGM Studios for NBC.
