Americans and Japanese Busy in Newmarket There was no shortage of Americans in buying action yesterday. Leading the way was Reiley McDonald, who paid 280,000gns for Bob McCreery=s homebred Group 3-winning three-year-old filly Middle Club (GB) (Fantastic Light--Anna Oleanda {Ire}, by Old Vic), sold from Richard Hannon=s stable. Japanese buyers were noticeably strong, and broth- ers Katsumi and Teyuya Yoshida each made significant purchases. Katsumi Yoshida, bidding through veterinar- ian Fumihiko Nakajima, spent 375,000gns on Belle Allure (Ire) (Numerous--Mare Aux Fees {GB}, by Ken- mare {Fr}), winner of the GIII Athenia S. at Belmont, and offered from Cian and Sue Ann Foley=s Islanmore Stud. The five-year-old mare, in foal to Giant=s Cause- way, is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Jukebox Jury (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}). Patrick Cooper of BBA Ireland was underbidder on the mare, for whom Teruya Yoshida=s Shadai Farm and New Zealand agent Guy Mulcaster also competed. AShe will foal in Japan and we have plenty of choices about which stallion to use [next year],@ Nakajima said. AShe had a lovely pedigree.@ Mulcaster was underbidder at 300,000gns to Teruya Yoshida=s team for Limelight (Dalakhani {Ire}--Last Second {Ire}, by Alzao), a half-sister to Group 1 winner Aussie Rules (Danehill), sold from Prince Faisal Salman=s Denford Stud in Oxfordshire. Failte Isteach (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}--Affianced {Ire}, by Erins Isle), a full-sister to G1 Irish Derby winner Soldier Of Fortune (Ire) sold from the Bolger family=s Redmondstown Stud, and was knocked down to Eamonn Reilly of BBA Ireland with a 340,000gns price tag. AShe=s been bought for a new client in the United Kingdom and is the first filly out of the mare. She has a great back page and is from a family that Jim Bolger has had great success with," said Reilly. The mare was offered with an Intense Focus covering. • Time Regained Proust, Marcel (Translator: Stephen Hudson)
Time Regained Proust, Marcel (Translator: Stephen Hudson) Published: 1931 Type(s): Novels, Romance Source: http://gutenberg.net.au 1 About Proust: Proust was born in Auteuil (the southern sector of Paris's then-rustic 16th arrondissement) at the home of his great-uncle, two months after the Treaty of Frankfurt formally ended the Franco-Prussian War. His birth took place during the violence that surrounded the suppression of the Paris Commune, and his childhood corresponds with the consolida- tion of the French Third Republic. Much of Remembrance of Things Past concerns the vast changes, most particularly the decline of the aristo- cracy and the rise of the middle classes, that occurred in France during the Third Republic and the fin de siècle. Proust's father, Achille Adrien Proust, was a famous doctor and epidemiologist, responsible for study- ing and attempting to remedy the causes and movements of cholera through Europe and Asia; he was the author of many articles and books on medicine and hygiene. Proust's mother, Jeanne Clémence Weil, was the daughter of a rich and cultured Jewish family. Her father was a banker. She was highly literate and well-read. Her letters demonstrate a well-developed sense of humour, and her command of English was suf- ficient for her to provide the necessary impetus to her son's later at- tempts to translate John Ruskin. By the age of nine, Proust had had his first serious asthma attack, and thereafter he was considered by himself, his family and his friends as a sickly child. Proust spent long holidays in the village of Illiers.

FRIDAY, JULY 14, 2017 ILLUMINANT RETIRED FROM RACING SONGBIRD CAN CAP OFF Grade I winner Illuminant (Quality Road--Sparkling Number, GOOD WEEK FOR PORTER by Polish Numbers) has been retired from racing after emerging from a workout last week exhibiting signs of minor discomfort, according to trainer Mike McCarthy. Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, SF Bloodstock and Sol Kumin said a decision was subsequently made to retire the filly while she was in otherwise healthy condition. AIlluminant was a brilliant filly,@ McCarthy said. AShe did some things in the morning time and come game time that only extraordinary racehorses can do. I have been very fortunate to be around some elite fillies and she ranks right up there with the best of them. We are sad to see her leave the barn because she is so special to me, my family and our team, but we are proud she heads back to Kentucky in good order and ready to go on and tackle her new career as a broodmare.@ Cont. p4 (click here) Rick Porter | Horsephotos IN TDN EUROPE TODAY by Bill Finley SAFEGUARDING A FRENCH BREEDING JEWEL As much as he likes his horses and loves to win major races, Emma Berry chats to Andreas Putsch, owner for the last 10 Rick Porter's emphasis of late has not been on the racetrack, but years of Haras de Saint Pair in Normandy’s Orne valley. on his health issues.
