Data was collected by document research, observation, interview and focus group discussion. Results show that temples suffer from a lack of maintenance, poor service, inadequate tourist facilities, minimal community participation and inefficient public relations. A management model to combat these problems was designed by parties from each temple at a workshop. The model provides an eight-part strategy to increase the tourism potential of temples in Bangkok: temple site, safety, conveniences, attractions, services, public relations, cultural tourism and management.     Keeping It Alive: Mapping Bangkok’s Diverse Living Culture Bussakorn Binson+ Pattara Komkam++ Pornprapit Phaosavadi+++ and Kumkom Pornprasit++++ (Thailand) Abstract This research project maps Bangkok’s living local culture sites while exploring, compiling and analyzing the relevant data from all 50 districts. This is an overview article of the 2011 qualitative !eld research by the Urban Research Plaza and the Thai Music and Culture Research Unit of Chulalongkorn University to be published in book form under the title Living Local Cultural Sites of Bangkok in 2012. The complete data set will be transformed into a website fortifying Bangkok’s cultural tourism to remedy its reputation as a destination for sex tourism. The !ve areas of cultural activity include the performing arts, rites, sports and recreation, craftsmanship, and the domestic arts. It was discovered that these living local cultural sites mirror the heterogeneity of its residents with their diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. There are local culture clusters of Laotians, Khmers, Mon, Chinese, Islam, Brahman-Hinduism, and Sikhs as well as Westerners. It was also found that the respective culture owners are devoted to preserve their multi-generational heritage. The natural beauty of these cultural sites remains clearly evident and vibrant, even though there remain dif!culties hampering their retention. The mapping of these sites are discussed as well as the issues surrounding those cultural sites that are in danger of extinction due to the absence of successors and other supportive factors necessary for their sustainability.     1 Management and Conservation of Historic Site for Cultural Heritage Tourism : A Case Study of Scriptures Library at Wat Rakhang Khosittaram Woramahavihara, Bangkok Panot Asawachai College of Tourism and Hospitality, Sripatum University Abstract This research aimed to review (1) the heritage values and cultural significance of the scriptures library at Wat Rakhang Khosittaram Woramahavihara, and ( 2) the potential for cultural heritage tourism. Critical to the aims was the assumption of acknowledging the importance of promoting better understanding for tourists and community of the place, the associated roles of management and conservation plans, cooperation between the stakeholders, and appropriate interpretation and presentation of cultural heritage resources. Scriptures library at Wat Rakhang Khosittaram Woramahavihara is a valuable historic site that still maintains its cultural significance which is one important key factor to indicate why such place is worth conserving. Scriptures library, or Ho Phra Traipidok, is located at Wat Rakhang Khosittaram Woramahavihara in Bangkok Noi district, Bangkok. Wat Rakhang Khosittaram Woramahavihara is an ancient monastery founded in Ayutthaya period. It was established as a royal temple in the reign of King Taksin the Great, Thon Buri period. The scripture library was originally the residence of Phra Rajavarindra, a state official who became King Rama I, the founding king of Chakri dynasty. The residence was donated to the monastery which was, at that time, called Wat Bang Wa Yai. This scriptures library is shown the wooden traditional Thai house with a long history of use in Thailand nowadays. Moreover, its significances were identified and analyed to understand its congenital values to the tourists and local residents of the place in terms of aesthetic, historic, social and scientific perspectives.

    Keeping It Alive: Mapping Bangkok’s Diverse Living Culture Bussakorn Binson+ Pattara Komkam++ Pornprapit Phaosavadi+++ and Kumkom Pornprasit++++ (Thailand) Abstract This research project maps Bangkok’s living local culture sites while exploring, compiling and analyzing the relevant data from all 50 districts. This is an overview article of the 2011 qualitative field research by the Urban Research Plaza and the Thai Music and Culture Research Unit of Chulalongkorn University to be published in book form under the title Living Local Cultural Sites of Bangkok in 2012. The complete data set will be transformed into a website fortifying Bangkok’s cultural tourism to remedy its reputation as a destination for sex tourism. The five areas of cultural activity include the performing arts, rites, sports and recreation, craftsmanship, and the domestic arts. It was discovered that these living local cultural sites mirror the heterogeneity of its residents with their diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. There are local culture clusters of Laotians, Khmers, Mon, Chinese, Islam, Brahman-Hinduism, and Sikhs as well as Westerners. It was also found that the respective culture owners are devoted to preserve their multi-generational heritage. The natural beauty of these cultural sites remains clearly evident and vibrant, even though there remain difficulties hampering their retention. The mapping of these sites are discussed as well as the issues surrounding those cultural sites that are in danger of extinction due to the absence of successors and other supportive factors necessary for their sustainability.
