National Strategy Goals SW Seed Partnership Steps

1. Determine geographic priorities 2. Identify target species (workhorse, early seral, nitrogen fixing, pollinator , wildlife and cultural benefits) 3. Collect seed 4. Track seed 5. Determine seed zones (build accessions based on science) 6. Production 7. Collaboration and Coordination! Goals Parallel to the National Seed Strategy

• Collections are planned and organized by Level III Omernik Ecoregions

• Management areas yield varied restoration needs

 BLM: AZ/NM Plateau & Chihuahuan Deserts

 USFS: AZ/NM Mountains & Southern Rockies

• SWSP survey results showed that Chihuahuan Deserts & AZ/NM Plateau (adjacent map: light blue) areas have the greatest immediate demand for seed

● Scout and use Collector for ArcGIS to map healthy populations of target species

○ Collecting site data and phenology (leaf, flower, fruit, etc.) at each point

● Follow Seeds of Success (SOS) protocols for seed collection

○ Collect less than 20% of available seeds from population

○ Collect 10,000 seeds or more from populations of at least 50 individuals

○ Collect data on specific botany and ecology related to collection

○ Collect three voucher specimens with each seed collection

● Collaborate with other crews for accession building (Collecting 10-20 populations of priority species to eventually put species into production) Collecting Scouting Data SOS Datasheet 2019 Collection Teams
